Adam is correct. I have killed my biggest bucks by hunting a "just off" wind. The bucks could have winded me if they were travelling 15 yards from where I intercepted them.

especially when you use thermals with an off wind, you catch deer totally unaware

You can get in a nose bleed stand where you are so high up when he does smell you he thinks you are hunderds of yards away. That too is difficult because when you get too high lower limbs etc. start blocking your view.

I’m not sure if he truly catches your wind that 20-40 feet will make that much difference. Eliminate scent is the key

@@adamlewis_outdoor Exactly you are trying to make it so he doesn't truly catch your scent and yes less scent is always better but there is no such thing as no scent. In most cases your scent doesn't drop straight down like a rock. The higher up you get the further your scent has to travel to reach the ground because the scent is taking the hypotenuse not the dropping like a stone. If you are higher up in a tree you can get a little drift that will carry your scent over a buck even though the wind is at your back.

I agree-BUT- in my 74 years of hunting--about half the time bucks in the morning are moving WITH the wind. Just the opposite in the PM. I still like to find that "Sweet Spot" though. Might take you several seasons to find those spots.

And another thing, nobody I know ever comes toward a deer from the front on the first approach. First, you're blood trailing, so naturally you're coming from behind. Second, when you spot the deer down, you don't just walk up to it. You stop and study it from a distance. Head up or down? Ears erect or drooping, eyes open or closed? Any movement at all, twitching, breathing, etc.? Legs under the body or outstretched to the side? Any hunter worth his salt checks all these things before slowly approaching from behind, with weapon at the ready (not a camera) and touches the deer's open eye before relaxing, satisfied that the deer is dead. Then the camera comes out. This footage was staged, IMHO.

There is no evidence that fertilizing oak trees will produce more, bigger, or sweeter acorns. When you get the rains and droughts plays a much bigger role, the ammount of sunshine the tree gets compared to the other trees also. The oaks fertilize themselves every year with leaf drops.

Mitch knew how horrible jealousy can true when directed at you. As a woman this is who’s got the bigger penis in my opinion. Typical 🤦🏻‍♀️ of most men. Please as hunters. Be happy for a fellow hunter. Truly happy. We have enough people trying to Stop us for what we love to do. People we need to band together like a good family. One buck per year gets my vote. I'm very tired of the Hee-Hawing year after year. You will never make everyone happy. Make the law with science based reasoning. I'm tired of this emotional bantering about this youth season. I have two boys that are accomplished hunters that only hunted the regular season with everyone else. They are very proud to be able to say that. If the "Land Manager" is in their blood they will take inventory of animals on the property and surrounding area and harvest accordingly. No one in my family made me into a hunter, I was born that way. One doe and One Buck per year per person is reasonable.
