  • This episode is our final episode of year 1 where our overarching theme was - to be a greater deer hunter. If you haven’t listened to all our series, I invite you to take the next few weeks to do so - we started with Barriers we need to overcome, got in the mind of mature bucks, had a deep dive into public land hunting, dissected private land strategies, dove deep into the science of deer, looked at what stewardship really is, then ended with some major controversies.
But over the course of the year I asked many of our guests this one overarching question - what exactly does it take to be a great deer hunter, and this week we look at what they said. You can look back at the full episodes with those guests, I’ll put those in the notes. And if you want to get more out of our podcast, download our free journal, thats really going to help.

Adam Hayes nailed it.. All great hunters have a system they have mastered . These guys live deer hunting 24/7 and it's one of the most important things in their life. Throw in persistence, hard work, the drive, and you have a great hunter.

Most hunters today are just cell camera poachers they are not hunters they are punks. if you take their cameras away, they would not know what to do.

There are no great deer hunters. Fair chase hunting for whitetail deer died a long time ago. Fair chase hunting for white tails would only be hunting spot and stalk with a long bow with no baiting like food plots, mock scrapes, man mad water holes, scent hanging on limbs, food piles, and no trail cameras. Who does that now adays? No one.

Only spot and stalk? So no Indians ambushed prey?

@@adamlewis_outdoor I had no idea we were dealing with Indians when we hunt. But the history of how Indians hunted in groups moving game to and from each other and multiple Indians would shoot at the same deer hoping at least one of the arrows would hit the deer.

Well Buck, I would bet you, there are people that hunt just like you say, "nobody hunts like that anymore". But you believe what you want. You sound like an angry person. Hopefully, you don't die with that anger 😮😊
