Forgot to include Anthrax's Persistence of Time, even though i listened to it twice recently!!! Decent album, but not their best. Also forgot to include Obnoxious by Acid Reign, not a great album.
You forgot to include Suicidal Tendencies-Lights, Camera, Revolution. I think it's a thrash classic. ST was all over the place style wise but I consider How Will I Laugh and Lights, Camera as their two 100% thrash albums
Good to hear your thoughts James. The top two are the strongest albums here by far but there is some excellent albums here like The Exhorder, Kreator, Xentrix and Forbidden.
Great ranking Mr b seasons would probably edge in as my no 1 first slayer album I ever bought always enjoy your ranking videos because you don't just pick the obvious ones plenty of albums there I need to check out!
So many great album from 1990 James. I actually forgot that "Swallowed In Black" was released that year, brutal thrash metal album. Nice seeing "For Whose Advantage?" so high on your list, that's my favorite Xentrix record. It blew my mind first time listening, sometimes I wish I could hear some records for the first time again. Such an complex thrash metal album. The album in the first place is simply just perfect. 10/10 😎 Great video as per usual James, greetings from 🇳🇱 Cheers buddy 👋🤘
Thanks for this great list. As a 86/87-metalhead i moved forward to hardcorepunk and some seattle stuff in 1990. But nowadays i love the heavy stuff again! Sodom and slayer i like the most in 1990!
This was an interesting year in thrash. A few obvious classics, such as Seasons and Rust in Peace. Arguably the last pure thrash year before the Black Album and grunge changed everything. I loved some of these albums when they were released, such as Act III and When The Storm Comes Down, but these two have not aged well with me. Impact is Imminent is good but lacks the ferocity of prior albums. Nice ranking! Cheers!
Solid ranking! Was wondering what your thoughts on “Cracked Brain” by Destruction, “Better Off Dead” by Sodom, and “Oppressing the Masses” by Vio-Lence are. All 3 would trend towards the bottom of the list for me, but they all have merit. Destruction suffers from not having Schmier’s demented nasally delivery. Sodom just seemed kind of all over the place on Better Off Dead. Oppressing the Masses isn’t bad, but the riffs aren’t as intense as on the debut, which makes Sean’s unique vocal delivery fall a bit flat (I love the increased use of gang vocals though).
@petebrad2971 I've actually got that Vio-lence album but completely forgot about it. I've not heard those Sodom and Destruction albums. Thanks for watching and commenting
Can't argue with those picks, most of them make my list too for 1990, here goes.. 1. Slayer - Seasons In The Abyss 2. Sodom - Better Off Dead 3. Annihilator - Never Neverland 4. Atrophy - Violent By Nature 5. Megadeth - Rust In Peace 6. Hexenhaus - The Edge Of Eternity 7. Xentrix - For Whose Advantage 8. Kreator - Coma Of Souls 9. Morbid Saint - Spectrum Of Death 10.Acid Reign - Obnoxious 11.Exodus - Impact Is Imminent 12.Artillery - By Inheritence 13.Death Angel - Act III 14.Anacrusis - Reason 15.Testament - Souls Of Black
I seem to like the American Way more then most people. Lol. I played the crap out of it. It's concise, I love the solos, always loved Phil's vocals, love the guitar tones. I love how much effort Phil used to put into writing a chorus. My biggest gripe about Awakening was every chorus was just repeating the song title... I hate that shit. I'd put The American Way in my top 5 of 1990 along with Seasons in the Abyss(when Slayer peaked), Act 3(when DA peaked), Coma of Souls, and Lights Camera Revolution(Peak ST). It was all down hill after here
Another great video, man! Not overly familiar with as many albums as I am from '86, but still a great year and plenty of awesome stuff here, of course. Impact is Imminent and Souls of Black aren't albums I've listened to a great deal, tbh, and I don't really know Annihilator that well at all, so I think my top 3 would be Coma of Souls, Seasons in the Abyss and, of course, the almighty Rust in Peace in the top spot! Cheers! 🤘
Those Testament and Exodus albums are good but far from their best. Seasons and Rust are essential and Coma of Soul's is a beast too. Cheers Simon my friend

Overkill is one of those bands that started out as a punk band but never lost their punk spirit. Out of all the Thrash bands they're the easiest to forgive for never doing anything different. I'm bored of Exodus and Testament's more of the same each album.
Great ranking from 1990 James! Some really awesome albums here, and a few I need to check out too! I would have put Souls of Black a little higher, I love it! Act III isn't that great honestly, it's a good album but not their best. The newer stuff definitely as good if not better than the early stuff. Really dig Impact is Imminent, one of their best I think. The production is raw and the guitar tone is savage! For Who's Advantage is a great album too. Can't argue with your top 2, I think Coma of Souls would have been in my top 3 though. But Seasons and Rust in Peace are 10/10 albums for me! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
There's nothing wrong with Souls of Black at all, but compared to some of the other albums on this list it's quite weak. Seasons and Rust In Peace are essential albums. Cheers Josh
@mrboulder9714 Ahh ok, that's fair enough man. I get it, the sound is a little more stripped down. But I've always liked it more than Practice What You Preach. Oh definitely, Seasons and Rust In Peace are top tier. You're welcome mate 😁🤘🏻

Flotsam and Jetsam - When The Storm Comes Down is riff heavy thrash record. The drums and bass sound superb in the mix. I love the production. Im glad you cought POT by Anthrax. That should be a top 5 of 1990
Another good video. I would rank Sacred Reich towards the top because of my personal history with that album. I love the guitar tone on 'Impact...'. 'By Inheritance' is one of my favorite albums of all time. Love the vocals. The Xentrix album is fantastic to9. 'Coma of Souls' rocks and 'Never, Neverland' is a masterpiece IMO as os 'Rust In Peace'.

Appreciate the video, but you don't give any analysis of the music / arrangements / compositions / lyrics / musicianship / technical or innovative styles or approaches to songs, production and so on. You just simply say ' that song is good' or 'that's a bang average song, to be fair'. 😅 It might be good for your audience to get something more from a ranking video.

I simply love Anthrax in all forms🤘
Which Anthrax album would you pick Mr Boulder? State of Euphoria Or Persistence of Time?
@aneinthedark5008 State of Euphoria personally. Persistence of Time is decent but not as good as State
You forgot to include Suicidal Tendencies-Lights, Camera, Revolution. I think it's a thrash classic. ST was all over the place style wise but I consider How Will I Laugh and Lights, Camera as their two 100% thrash albums
