FREE Cat 977 - Episode 3 - Disassembly Begins!
Episode 1: ua-cam.com/video/QSwjKY3lVcA/v-deo.html
Episode 2: ua-cam.com/video/QBSKaC6GzPw/v-deo.html
In this episode, I finally have some good news - I now have a shop! And then the bad news - in this video, we start the disassembly of the FREE Caterpillar 977H and find even more issues, including a shoddy repair of an very important structural piece of the tractor. I really, really want to save this old girl, but the more I dig in, the more I realize it's going to be expensive and fairly difficult, too, especially if I replace the undercarriage, which has seen better days.

    Electric is perfect for power outages. If you keep your battery's charged you have at least one good charge witch is reely all you need for the bare minimum clearing to get out the drive way, you can make it pretty later. In a homeowner situation where there isint fresh mixed gas on hand year round that electric get up and go could make the difference.

      I suppose it matters how much you need cleared. I grew up in Louisiana on 5 acres and we took a direct hit from a few storms, including Katrina. Electric would not have worked well for us. Thanks for the input, Scott

    People around here run 36inch bars on 462s all the time. Run them even on smaller saws. Not because we drop massive trees all the time but to save your back during clean up. No bending over. Skip tooth chain and being gentile on the rakers make them eat fine. The oiler is adjustable for this porpose.

    That's all fair and good but what if you need to take the tires off what if you doing brakes or an axle.. I use 3 ton Jack's on the axle tube itself.. and on the frame up front and they're not maxed out... The problem with those is the space they take up in the shop and the bulk around the vehicle,..I've made them out of scrap "micro-lam"off are job sites, if there is a safety issue they can go under the frame,..they work great for painting,body work...yoy don't have to get on your knees to fix a "rocker" panel.good luck and stay safe.

    When I worked in the South African gold mines, we used cribbing like this to prevent the ceiling from coming down on us. The work area was only 3 to 4 feet high and when your nearly a mile underground, the pressures are enormous and the ceiling of the work area will sink down pretty quick. The cribbing slowed down this process allowing the crews to drill, blast and clean out. After a few months, the cribbing in the old work areas would eventually be crushed by the intense pressure. The compression strength of wood is about 5000 psi so I'm quite sure the cribs in this video would easily hold a large heavy truck, let alone a car.

    • @THEBULLETPROOFGARAGE
      @THEBULLETPROOFGARAGE 20 днів тому

      A compression check gives another data point, but it's far from a requirement. If you're getting oil to all the rockers, it turns over, and you've had a good soak with MMO, go ahead and give it a try. FYI - you may need to rotate the crank a bit to get oil to all the rockers; I didn't explain that in the video. Good luck with it! Scott

    That's cool that you didn't kill the snake, as so many people do. You obviously gave it points for not being aggressive with you. I once snagged a diamond back rattlesnake for a neighbor who was afraid it was going to bite their dog, or? I put it in a covered trash can and made the neighbor stay in the back of my Jeep to make sure the can stayed upright. It did. All three of us survived. I used a small painter's roller-frame on an extension pole. It worked perfectly. People who automatically kill snakes had best learn to love rodents. Cheers.

Just pine kiln dried, no PT, just 2x4 poo poo boards from HD and local lumberyards, the ones they can’t sell because they are twisted crap, just ask they will typically have a bunch for a good discount.

    Hi Scott, I know I'm 1 year late but I just watched and enjoyed this video. For the past 35 years I've heated my home solely with firewood and cut all our logs with a MS460 saw (25" bar) and love it. However it is becoming heavy/hard on my back after 1 hour of cutting. So I'm considering a MS362 (16" bar) for the bulk of my cutting while saving my MS460 for the bigger trees. I too prefer a 3/8" chain and the MS362 will allow me to share the chains & bars between the saws (?) as needed. I hope this plan makes sense? Thanks again for sharing your knowledge. Andy
