F350 Crew Cab Dually Rear Lift Block Install! Project Brutus, Ep. 11

- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- In this episode, I install lift blocks on the rear differential housing to lift our F350 crew cab DRW diesel project truck (Project Brutus) in order to level it out. It was sitting really low in the back because I installed a Dana 60 up front in order to convert it to 4x4. Note - I'm using 6" blocks - most folks agree that 4" blocks are the practical limit because you run into axle wrap with taller blocks. I will likely re-do this lift in the not-too-distant future using aftermarket springs and small or no lift blocks. Thanks for watching, and please LIKE the video and SUBSCRIBE to the channel! Scott
I'm loving this series, this is some of the best content on UA-cam.
Tyler - thanks for the kind words - I really appreciate it!!! Scott
I just bought a 2005 F350 this last spring, already set up with four wheel drive, and had some axle work done to fix problems the last owner didn't fix. This was a very helpful video detailing some of the work I just had done and some that I will be doing this winter to finish up the job. You demonstrate the issues very well and your solutions are well thought out and functional, thanks for a well predicated video showing some of the real pitfalls.
Glad you found it helpful and good luck with your truck! Scott
I'm quite surprised you didn't clean up and paint the rear diff and leaf springs like you did the front. Love your videos. Keep it up.
Josh - May still get around to it, but that's really time-consuming. Thanks, Scott
Fantastic work Scott! As always I really enjoy watching your straight forward no nonsense approach to fixing the problem, and it’s really cool to see this truck leveled out the way it is. I know you have quite a bit of work ahead of you, but it sure has come a long way! Can’t wait for the next one😀👍
YDOC - It was huge for me to see it leveled out! Looks sooooo much better now! Plenty left to do as I tackle the drivetrain rebuild, but we are making progress! Thanks for the kind words! Scott
Can't wait to see the drivetrain back in that beast! Man you're really making me want to build a crew cab. I've got all the parts to do it.
Aaron - You and me both! I have the ZF5 in a million pieces now; once that's done, I'll rebuild the transfer case and then the engine. Starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel! Thanks, Scott
Love this truck build ....keep these videos coming 😎
Thanks faronf2006 - I certainly will! Scott
I just found your UA-cam channel and Iv watched all of your episodes on this truck , man I love it , I basically have the same project going on but with a 94 7.3 idi turbo crew cab
Excellent! Is yours a dually or single rear wheel? Sounds like an awesome project! Thanks for the comment, Scott
Hot damn it looks good with the new lift blocks!
John - Brutus looks like a real beast now!!! Thanks, Scott
Hi when you get to the engine again and don't use the turbo kit I would be interested in it anyway great build I did my 94 f250 4wd a couple months ago same kit but my truck sits level and I did nothing to the rear also my truck is a f250 hd
Hey Albert - I'll let you know on the turbo, but at this point, I think I'm going to use it. Sounds like you have a real beast, too! Thanks for the comment, Scott
Hey, do you have a lift on the front end or is this just a stock Dana 60? Thx
Not stock. Super Duty springs. Details in the video.
Kroil and WD40 did poorly on a penetrating test done by Project Farm here on UA-cam. Some old school guys swear by it so I was surprised when I saw the results. SeaFoam Deep Creep did the best so I have switched to that for penetration spray.
I used to always use Kroil but now that the price has gone up so much more compared to some of the other brands of penetrating oils ....I am using cheaper PB blaster & it seems to do the trick
Dave - I love Project Farm and I watched all of his videos on penetrating oil. I'm still a huge fan of Kroil, even though it didn't come out on top. Thanks for the input! Scott
@@faronf2006 - I'm with you on the cost on Kroil - it's expensive! I do keep other stuff on the shelf for those times when I run out and can't get any ordered in time. Thanks, Scott
That's odd to hear, I always heard the (specifically) WD40 brand penetrating oil (not the standard WD40) was some of the best when people did comparison tests. I've had luck with Kroil but I think I prefer PB. I'll have to try the SeaFoam if I can find it.
@@Toystorations - if I recall correctly, the regular WD40 performed poorly (it pretty much always does on these type of tests), but I'm not sure if they tested the WD40 penetrating oil. Scott
Just asking, how tall is that lift kit when it’s all set and done? With the proper shocks on
Hi Darius - Sorry, but I don't think I ever got any measurements, and I sold the truck a few months ago. Scott
I’m waiting for the next episode thank
edwin na - I'm working on it as we speak!!! Lots more content to come! Scott
Dang dude this is coming along, I subbed, saw you on FTE came over here to check it out. BTW I did some contract work up at Eilson AFB (pre9/11) we used one of the AF trucks setup much like this one it was a 89F350crewcab lifted with a 7.3IDI and an ATS turbo on it I always liked that truck. Im about to pull the trigger on my neighbors 86F250 6.9 to add to my F seriesstable.
Man, that sounds like a sweet AF truck! I'd love to find one of those for sale. '86 F250 6.9 sounds like a great addition to the stable! Scott
When I converted my F250 to 4x4, I learned about the factory 4" lift blocks. I rummaged through a scrap bin at the wrecking yard trying to find a 3" block but apparently it didn't exist. Your options are either 2" (F250) or 4" (F350), so I kept the 4" that came with the donor truck. It worked well in my case, because I kept the OEM style front suspension. I'm not the tallest guy, so I was trying to avoid any extra lift. The 4" blocks seem to only come with the Dana 60 equipped front axle trucks that predate the superduty series (unless someone else can correct me).
David - that's my understanding as well. Thanks for the input! Scott
Man, do I regret selling my minty 1995 Powerstroke Crew Cab dually..... I had even purchased a Dana 60 front axle for it that I'd planned to swap.... but thought the swap was too daunting. You make it look easy! Terrific stuff. Scott, what do / did you do for a living? You're knowledgeable and skilled at this vehicle work, but you've also got great verbal and instructional skills..... You've got an engineer / technical guy vibe, with a dash of accountant / CEO / military. Cheers
Lynden - that '95 PS CC dually must have been nice! I had a 2003 Excursion Limited 4x4 with the 7.3 that I hated to get rid of but we got transferred overseas and I wasn't bringing it to Korea. The solid axle swap isn't complicated but it was fairly involved. Not something I could have done in a weekend. Good guesses about my profession! I've been active duty Army for 27 years and I'm about to retire. I've been tinkering on and off for decades. Thanks for the questions and comments! Scott
lots of work going into that truck!
Yes sir! And a lot more left to do!!! thanks for your comment, Randy!
Headed up towards 1000 subscribers! Way to go! Quick question out of curiosity. I can't quite tell from the shot, but how did the gap between the back of the cab and the front of the bed come out after the lift? Was there any sag?
Hi Michael - I honestly didn't check out the gap. It wasn't great before the lift, but I attributed it to body mount bushings. I'll have to check this out later this week. thanks for the comments and question! Scott
What kind of camera setup are you using? The quality is really good!
I'm using a Canon M50 - it was about $500 at Best Buy. Thanks for the comment and question! Scott
i really don't like lift blocks puts a lot of stress on the u-bolts and increases leverage i prefer to buy correct springs to raise the truck to desired height if possible sometimes not possible
Yeah, they're not optimal, especially at this height. I plan to go with aftermarket springs in the back. Thanks for the input, Scott
Hopefully this winter I’ll be swapping my 1997 F350 over to 4x4. When do I’m going with Sky’s 08+ rear leaf spring setup and the newer axle in hopes to eliminate any lift block or only use a 2” block if needed. Have you considered that swap, instead of that big a lift block that could give you some axle wrap?
Gillian's Garage - I won't swap to a later model rear differential because then I wouldn't have matching bolt patterns for the wheels. It would have made a lot of sense if I had swapped to a Super Duty front diff instead of a 1990 F350 king pin Dana 60. Thanks for your comment and question! Scott
@@THEBULLETPROOFGARAGE I believe you can swap the springs and run the original axle yet. Either way keep your the good work!!
@@GillansGarage - that is correct! I may do that, but for now I'm going to hold what I've got and focus on the drivetrain. Thanks! Scott
Will this work on a 97 dually
Good vidéo thx !
Thanks for watching! Scott
Where you buy this lift blocks ? Please
www.pmfsuspension.com/
Bro I wouldn't have done all that blocking are poodle Springs out of that truck and took them and had them arched Spring Shop do that fast too
I like 6 ton jack stands on a car on a truck I just use my pipe stands reason I do that is cuz I like clearance between that ground and that vehicle cuz I'm a fat am I fat ass don't fit under there with them little bitty jack stand
And it looks like you found that frame Flex Ford don't use high carbon steel for the frame is that when you got them up and you said stand in the middle get that frame flexx
So cool ! For front is possible ?
I am not sure I understand your question. Thanks
@@THEBULLETPROOFGARAGE sorry french, Is it possible to do the same in the front ?
@@the-desperadosfr9743 - lift blocks on the front axle are possible but very dangerous. I strongly recommend you do not use front lift blocks. Thanks, Scott
@@THEBULLETPROOFGARAGE thank you, the truck is not too tilted?
@@the-desperadosfr9743 - no, my truck is not too tilted. Thanks
personally i prefer JB-80 penetrant
Friedrich - I'll have to check that out. Thanks for the recommendation and the comment. Scott
