- In this episode, we disassemble the third attempt at finding an IDI engine to build for Project Brutus. This is a 1988 naturally aspirated 7.3 IDI that came from a low mile (under 30,000 miles) plow truck. In this video, we show how to remove the intake manifold, cylinder heads, balancer, camshaft and camshaft gear, connecting rods and pistons, crankshaft, and oil pan, and tackle a few problems along the way. When it's all said and done, we hope to have 250 hp and 550 ft/lbs of torque at the rear wheels!

Looks like a very solid engine.
I think so, too, Roy.
If your within 8 hours from Myrtle beach, and your interested, let’s talk about rebuilding my Idi. I’ll pay
Unfortunately, I'm in Texas, but thanks for the offer. Scott
Is there a trick to the block heater seal? I replaced my heater and the darn thing is still leaking.
Hi Joseph - I'm not sure; haven't gotten that far yet! I'd recommend posting at oilburners.net in the 6.9/7.3 IDI forum. Good luck!
you might have been ahead of the game to have done a Cummins swap
Nah IDI 4 the win! That way I get to learn more about my own truck in the process.
Cummins is a fantastic engine, but I'm going to stick with the IDI on this build. Thanks
Might as well put an LS in there, no way. Keep the Ford all..... IH! I have one of these also, Scott, mine is an N/A from a '92 in my '84. Let's consider these the V8 flathead of the diesel world, simple AND cool!
Enjoyed the video. Was that Semi Super Villains for the sound track? I couldn't quite tell.
Hi Michael - Glad you enjoyed it. The music is from Tigerblood Jewel, Northside, and Will Harrison. I get it from epidemicsound.com - that's my source for non-copyrighted music. Thanks, Scott
