Making a Lipless Crankbait
For this 3d printed Fishing lure, I wanted to make a lipless crankbait. This is not a regular crankbait though. This is 4" and painted in salt water colors. I wanted to make a lipless crankbait for striped bass fishing. This bait is still small enough so it should still work for some freshwater species as well. I originally wanted to go with a 5" or 6" version but I decided to make this smaller bait as a proof of concept. This is bait is free to download so please make them yourselves and let me know how it works. Id be happy to tweak it if people have suggestions.

      For the resin ones no. I have gone up to 350 375 no issues. I tested out 400 plus for a different kind of plastic that did cause it to warp. The biggest concern with the resin molds is they arent as riged. The require more clamping across the mold then a aluminum one. Im working on a new alingment pin desing but I got that on the back burner while Im testing out hard baits on the resin printer.

    I’m looking to get into 3d printing pretty much what you are doing! I’m going to buy a resin printer but want to make soft plastics as well as hard plastics. Do you think resin will make most hard bodied bass lures like jerkbaits and crank baits

      You should be fine making harbaits with a resin printer. Ive been working on it for a while now thats why I havent put out a video in a while. So far Ive had no issues making smaller lures for bass fishing. I have a 4 inch jerkbait that should be releasing soon. Im not sure where the cuttoff on how big of lures you can practicly make. My main concern is lip stength. So far ive had luck with lures up to an oz and a half but I havent tested anything heavier. I want to do a video on all my findings I just want to finalize my design proscess first.

    have you tried painting your soft plastics with SB Coat (clear) and mica powder? For freshwater/bass fishing lakes, that sardine design is a very convincing Shad profile. 6th Sense Fishing has an ultra realistic soft plastic shad imitation, called the "Panorama Shad", that is currently very popular and hard to keep in stock right now. Quite honestly, it's a boring flat board-like soft plastic version of your design, but with terrific very realistic paint jobs, IMO. I'm trying to find a permanent way of "decorating" my Bucca Burritos (Lg silicone cast shad patterned swimbaits) with irridesscent mica powders. Using a paint on silicone with mica powder as pigment still ends up being opaque. So far, I've vacuum chambered some of my homemade silicone cast soft lures, in ziplock bags, after micro needling them. It only lasts as long as nothing is making any rough contact with it, but seems to maintain better without washing out after several casts. In comparison, for plastisol baits, the SB coatings are probably more durable, but scratching can appear on them under similar conditions. as far as I can tell, for silicone, after a short day, the mica powder just seems to fade away, faintly being absorbed into the silicone. "Spike-It" paints will hold after letting them dry for several minutes, but seems to eventually get completely absorbed through out the body of the silicone. You could apply it to the dorsal area, but after a couple of days the entire thing turns what was once a milky translucent clear into a faded version of whatever color you had applied. It's actually fun reapplying the patterns when I get them back home, so I enjoy it. But, I find myself wondering how many lures I could have painted by now. That usually turns into wondering how many could I "paint" in a day? (it's like using a paint brush to apply make up to a figurine). I might as well start casting and painting up some high quality baits at this point. Pretty sure the commercial plastisol versions are air brushed or silk screened patterns. Thanks ahead of time, and thanks for the inspiration. Tight lines!

      @HandCraftedAngling 2 місяці тому

      I dont have any experiance using mica powder or silicone. I do plan on trying to airbrush some soft plastics soon. I woukd either try and find some kind of paint made for silicon and then clear coat over it or do some kind of base coat that the spike it will stick to and stop it from absorbing into the silicone

    Hello , I make molds with a 3D printer and cast them with RTV2 molder silicone. It costs me approximately 1 dollar, but its structure is not soft enough, it is very difficult to find the product you use in Turkey, the cost increases a lot when purchased from abroad. That's awesome!. I would love to know what fish these lures can catch in Turkey. Unfortunately I am not aware what would be available there. Although some people make soft plastics out of silicone that is not the normal material used. They do make silicone soft enough to use for lures but I'm not sure if its available in your country. The material that most soft plastic lures are made of is called plastisol. I cannot provide you a vender for your country but I would try searching that.

      Ive never tried it. For the stuff i used in this video i deffinitly would not use pla. It warped one of my resin molds. If you are using regular plastisol I have heard of people using pla. • @CreekLifeLureCo
    @CreekLifeLureCo 4 місяці тому

    This stuff is great for personal use but if you are selling baits they will not survive the shipment, they melt and deform VERY easily WAY more so than ZMan. I put them in packaging and placed them in my mailbox for 2 hours on a 70 degree day and they were toast. I tried everything Bait Plastics suggested, curing in ice baths, rolling in salt, lots of worm oil in packaging etc etc. Basically they told me everyone that uses this stuff uses thermo formed plastic trays shaped like their baits to keep them from deforming, even then they will still melt. As said though, if you use it for personal use and can keep them in a cooler while fishing they will be okay.

    • @HandCraftedAngling
      @HandCraftedAngling 4 місяці тому

      Yeah I'm a little worried about the heat tolerance. This is all for personal use so I'm not worried about shipping but if it truly has to be kept in a cooler that's gonna be a problem. Its still pretty cold up here so I cant test that. I store most of my baits in a shed and it hit 80 degrees outside one day and they didn't melt. If its 70 outside and the sun is beating down on a metal mailbox it might be quite a bit warmer inside than 70 degrees. I've been having other issues with this stuff with bubbles and air pockets. I ordered a mixing pot and I am waiting for that to come before I try anything else with it. Unfortunately I have had much better luck fishing with tpe type baits than regular plastisol and I would love to have my custom designs made out of it. So for now I am stuck tooling around with this stuff.

  • @beccabeth2
    @beccabeth2 4 місяці тому

      Yeah thats deffinitly what caused your faliure. Where is your temperature probe. Mine is decently high up in the enclosure. If your probe is closer to the bottom the resin temp will be higher due to the temp gradient.

    How long does that squid lure mold last? I’ve seen and read they melt very quickly and you don’t get many baits from them? There’s a guy selling one on eBay and wants 110 bux for it. Don’t wanna pay that if not gonna last?

    • @HandCraftedAngling
      @HandCraftedAngling 6 місяців тому

      It would depend on what the mold is made of. If its made out of what I use it should last a really long time. I would be happy to take a look at it if you share the link.

      If you are new to bait making I do not recommend using this product. And do not keep these baits in any sort of warm environment. If you live in the south you better keep them in your ice chest

      I deffinitly agree with this not being a beginner friendly plastic. How supseptible is this stuff to heat? Ive heard it has issues but its winter and I cant test that. Is a cooler really nessisairy or does it just need to be kept out of the sun?

      Yea I am very excited to try it out on the water. I'm working on some new soft plastic designs and revamping some of my old ones. As soon as I get everything in order I'm gonna start making some in different colors and making some finished baits. I have a lot of ideas for this stuff if it works out.

    "Hmm, maybe I could pour my own jig heads." "oh maybe I should pour my own soft plastic lures" "oh maybe I should make my own molds to pour soft plastics" Looking at spending $450+ to save on jigs and lures that cost $1-5 each. What am I doing? 😅 Edit: subscribed

    Might be a bit of a tool and supplies investment, but there’s many many ways to turn a 3d printed part into aluminum, brass, etc via casting methods. Robinson Foundry is a great channel to go watch and see how he does it with either a sand mold or ceramic slurry mixtures. Being able to print the jig mold and basically turn it to aluminum just might work great, and allow you to fine tune with files and stuff

    Awesome idea to try and make jigs with a 3d printer sorry the jigs it didn’t turn out well. the first time I tried to make my own mold I must have went through multiple roles of 3d filament . Thanks for inspiring me to try to make my own and thank for the original models you provided so I could learn from them and start to design my own molds.

      Glad you like the idea! It definitely works and I can definitely make it work well. My problem is I have so many ideas I want to work on and I need to start prioritizing ideas. There are plenty of models to come. I really want to get started on my bait design series. I think there is quite a bit to come from that.
