TTA Performance - Air Pump Delete Pontiac 301
Переглядів 9252 місяці тому
We get asked a lot on how to remove the air pump on the 1980-81 Pontiac 301 and Pontiac 265. The air pump was only installed those last two years of this engine. If removing the air pump tube, you will need Dorman 555-101 freeze plugs to plug off the port in the cylinder head.

TTA Performance - How to replace the turbo on your 301
What is the most horsepower and torque that you’ve personally ever pulled out of one of these 301 turbo cars? Have you ever seen anyone pull out more power than you were able to produce, I highly doubt it as you are the only person building these that I’ve seen in the last couple of years worth or searching. Thanks
I had Joe do mine, and no regrets whatsoever. Highest recommendation.
Do you have any videos of the governor
Nicest and most knowledgeable guy out there We are luck to have this knowledge
Mr 301 At His Badass Best! Don't Mess With Mr. 301! 301 Joe, You ROCK! WOOH! LONG LIVE THE PONTIAC 301!
Sounds muffler and slow
Good Luck Getting At The Distributor On A Pontiac 151! Yes The Iron Duke! Particularly In A 1979 MONZA! ITS BURIED! On Passenger Side In The Back Towards The Flywheel! And Underneath The Intake Assembly! Yep, BURIED! A Lot Easier To Access On My 1973 350 Firebird. Probably The Same Effort As The 301.
Beautiful car, my 81 still have the original engine and transmission but I been thinking about to remplace the 301 turbo and going with a 455 but I don know if that’s devalued the car,
What is the purpose of deleting the air pump?
I just put a 77 400 in my 79 Formula in place of the 301. The 400 is totally rebuilt and runs like crap. I used the quadrajet off the 301 minus the 1-1/2 inch alluminum spacer. I have no vacum to the PCV. Wondering if deleting that plate is the source of my problems.
Is that your Sheet Metal intake?
Awesome video, question for the 200r4, for the cooler lines, is the top line connect to the bottom of the radiator cooler and the bottom line connect to the top of the radiator?? I keep seeing that the 200r4 lines are reversed.
301S ROCK! 301S RULE! KEEPING THE PONTIAC 301 ALIVE! YEAH!!
Those are the ugliest wheels ever made! They definitely need swapped out for either the 15x8 turbo wheels, the 15x8 snowflake wheels, or the 17x8 year one snowflake reps.
I wanna know what brand & model those door speakers are?
Why do people waist their time ??
Lucky Andrew Johnson. Wow! Hope He's A 301 Fan Like I Am!
Is 6 x head good for a 71 400
How much cost that turbo ?
@11:18, OH SHIT ON YOUR PART! YIKES! MISPRONOUNCIATION IS A VERY BAD THING! The Correct Way To Say It Is AD ji Cint. Accent On FIRST Syllable, Unlike The Capital Of MONTANA Where It's On The SECOND Syllable.
301 Bashers TAKE DAT!!! HAHA!!
301s RULE! 301 BASHING SUCKS!
Ah, A Fake Quadrajet! I Didn't Know The Base 2bbl 301/135 Had That. My Stolen 1973 350 Firebird Had That Teeny Tiny Puny Rochester 2GC Carb Very Small Carburetor For Such A Big Engine.
I Had That Air Injection Setup On My Stolen 1973 350 Firebird.
NOW DO THE AMX 401 VERSION!!
301 BASHERS, TAKE THAT, AND STFU!!!!
Did you allow for installation of conventional heads with your custom made head gaskets ?? Oops. Still not possible, 😒
Wow - very nice results Joe ! Pretty much double the HP of a stock setup. 500 torque is healthy big block power
That intake flex hose is missing the cinch strap.
The aluminum head
THE 301 IS JUNK I HAD THREE AND EVERYONE WAS JUNK
Never thought I'd see the day where malaise era smog junk would be considered rare. To each their own I guess.
Wow ! What a beautiful car. Just wondering what kind of spark plugs did you use or would recomend? I have a 80 turbo as well that i need to replace pkugs as well
Yes, there will be day codes on the ignition wires. It will be a number then Q and then a year which stands for a given quarter of the year. If they are original, they will precede the assembly date of the vehicle. It is missing the small sheet metal piece that goes from the air duct into a hole in the fender. Correct, 1979 was the first year that the high beam control was moved to the steering column. No, that is a E-Core AC Delco filter. I believe the original may have been a PF40 which got later superseded to PF47. I want to say some early literature actually makes reference to using both filters as an either or situation.
Not bad at all !! That’s awesome
That is a really cool specimen! A guy I know has a 80 301 non turbo car he bought with around 5k miles that was really neat to see. I spoke to you about it as I got tye engine, fuel tank and exhaust out of it as he swapped in a butler 455 IIRC.
What a shame to do that to a well preserved original car
What? No drag strip testing, Joe? (I'm sure the owner would "love" seeing you mudding up his quarters.) :D
Love to buy the 15x6 original rims off that! 👍
Have it’s Sister car 78 Caprice Classic 2Door in green, love all GM B-Body 2Door Coupe cars 77-87 Caprice and 77-85 all other Divisions. That is is a very nice car! 😊👍the small GM 267, 301, 305 307 engines of the era were not powerful but VERY durable/reliable 👍👍👍
Both Chevrolet And Oldsmobile Had A 307.
@@richardkaltenbach3961yes Chevy’s 307 was a 2bbl from 68-73 and Old’s 307 4bbl 1980-1990, 👍
The factory/GM side molding was not put on with rivets and end caps, that was done by Rayco/Aftermarket if it was done that way. That looks to be stick on GM molding installed incorrectly or in fact after market molding. That PF47E filter is the current GM offering of the PF47.
Thanks for the clarification.
Not correct, both the PF47 and PF47E are both available. The PF47E is the E-core version and the PF47 is the original style version.
@@googleusergpyes both available but any ac delco filter with an E at the end of its designation is to be avoided. the core is cheap plastic and paper…
@@capricetony I'm well aware of that as I have contacts at AC Delco corporate and talk to them all the time. Both the original and E-core versions are supplied by Champion Labs to Delco.
@@googleusergp it’s not a pissing contest, but certainly you see the irony in a company called “Campion Labs” that would manufacture that junk E-core filter. Then again, the E-core filters are a reflection of what “gm” is today. That PF47 is when GM was “GM”. Just IMO, 🙋🏻♂️that Trans Am is gorgeous though, I would have purchased a 79 with the credit option 301 would have been a great cruiser for me 🚙.
Gm and ford during those transition years used to do metric heads and standard threads on many of the bolts... clean car... between my brother and I we own several trans am's, love seeing you keeping the original cars original...👍👍
Super nice
What a beauty! I thought my 81 was clean, but that is unbelievable.
Thank you for your channel. Its god send to me.
I’ll finish watching but I wonder if I can take the heads off my 400 slap it on my 301
Sounds healthy
Awesome job! Saw this video for the first time just now. How do I get in touch with you?
My dad had the 81 Rts. My dads TA was Canadian and had the diagnostic port?
Do you like the 2004r better than the 350?
Neat car.....I love those cragars on it!
