Hello and welcome to my channel! My name is Tom and I hope you enjoy watching my videos. I am what can be called "A jack of all trades, but a master of none".
I have worked with tools my whole life. I have been known to say "I had a wrench in my hand while learning how to crawl." I was great at taking things apart, but putting them back together without having parts left over, not so good. Lol.
I watch a lot of how-to and DIY videos on UA-cam (duh, really? Say it isn't so.) and thought since I started My Honda Valkyrie project I could document and put it on UA-cam. Easy, right? Wrong! Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the heck out of doing this but was not aware of how much work it takes to create videos!
Anywho... I have the Honda Valkyrie Project mostly completed. I have a couple more things to do with it. The Honda Goldwing Project was not planned but I had been driving by this bike on the way home everyday and thought that it would be a good project for UA-cam as well.
Enjoy!

I had a backfiring problem on closing the throttle on mu gl1000. This was cured by dismantling the carbs and cleaning the small channels and vacuum (?) tube associated with the deceleration fuel pump. The backfiring stopped. Just saying.
I'm pretty sure 15/16" is interchangeable with 24mm so hey that checks out
wow, this guy is good
I wish you had mentioned the sealer u used.
Have you considered using JIS screwdrivers on these Japanese bikes? It might have gotten those two screws out. I have known about JIS screwdrivers for years. But I couldn't see the difference from Phillips screw drivers. And I couldn't see paying $15 for a screwdriver. I finally broke down and bought a #3 Jis screwdriver and I love it. It doesn't cam out and round off the heads. It often works on damaged screws. Also can be used on regular phillips screws. Now I have a set of them and they are almost the only ones I use.
Tom.. great videos.. is there a trick to getting the tubes seated on the carb.. mine are close but not quite there. Just won’t seat
If the rubber on the inlet is hard, soften it up in boiling water and smear some oil on the inside. You have to push quite hard and twist 40 yr old rubber.
worst rebuild video on doing this that Ive seen so far
To drain the carbs, just let it run for 10 minutes or so until it dies. But, if you rode it often enough you would never need to do any carb work. I have had my Valkyrie 27 years, 114,000 miles and have never touched a carb or been in the engine or trani. However, it never sat more than three months. Ride it. People who have carb problems on these bikes are not bikers, they aren't even weekend warriors. They are like Harley riders. Buy it, polish it, look at it and put it back in the garage.
15/16 socket is equivalent to a 21 mm. 👍 Honda is ALL METRIC. 👍
Tom best assembly video I have seen , very good job . Thank you.
I have an 85 Goldwing 1200, can I ask why the light comes on when I turn the key but it doesn't turn on? It doesn't make any noise or make any noise? Could you help me?
I take it this is a GL1100, or is it a late GL1000?... you don't say in the intro.
Hey Tom I have an 81 interstate. I have the same red wire on the accessory terminal. It’s spliced off the smaller red wire from the ignition switch.i do not have the green wire like yours. What’s the story with these wires , cause I’ve seen other interstates without them. I also have the cycle sound radio
Thank you . The video will be very helpful
Mine was full of gelatin but luckily the piston was still moving. I just cleaned out the reservoir and flushed the lines but now my front brakes are dragging and have destroyed one of my rotors. Guess it's time to pull it all apart and fix it right. Thanks for the video.
This was only a 170 cca battery?
Tom do you know if you can replace the lines inside the tank.
Thank you so much for this video, this is exactly what I needed.
Fantastic job congratulations thanks mate for your support goldwing, I have been trying my for last 2 years but no time and England not easy for parts 😢
Thanks for your videos, you make it all look so easy and your explanations are great. I’m starting the carburetor rebuild on my ‘76 Goldwing today, Howdy from South Texas!
Thank You!
Hi thanks so much for your video. I got a 81 gl 1100 about a year ago and just rebuilt the carbs watching your video it helped me so much. The bike was sitting for a long time before I got it after I put the carbs back on it fired right up but after about 5 minutes it started to smoke anyway I think it is my valve stem seals but it could be the rings I'm no mechanic just watching UA-cam video's the one thing I'm confused about is when I put my camera scope into one of the cylinders there was a lot of gas pooling on top of the piston and the intake valve when I had checked it the next day. I don't know who to ask about this situation just thought you may have an idea. Hope you are still doing well.
Thank you so much, man. I have been watching a lot of your videos. I am 100% new to motorcycles and it is helping so much because I have the exact same bike so I really appreciate all these videos.
Where did you find the gas sending unit? Is there anyway you can give us a link to purchase it?
Hi Tom. I wanted to followup on the issue I mentioned below. I solved it. One of the compression springs on the opposite bank of the #3 carb was in incorrectly and prevented it from closing. A quick change and it was fixed so I did the pre-synch and all's good. I really appreciate this series that you did and probably would have put the carbs back on the bike and not found the issue until I went to start it up. Your pre-synch step got me to look at everything and catch the issue beforehand!! Much appreciated.... Good riding.....
Hi Tom. I watched quite a few videos before tackling this on my '97 Valkyrie 1500C, yours were the best for me. I re-did the carbs because I was always having trouble syncing all the carbs with Carb 3. I have a digital carb sync device. Your pre-synchronize test with the light showed me that the butterfly valve was not closed (bottomed out) on carb 3. I can't understand why it would even be open but it is, a lot. I obviously have to fix it although I would have put it back on the bike had you not shown me that test, so thanks for that. My question is how do I get the master carb (3) to close so I can adjust everything to it? I am guessing it has something to do with the bolt on the side of that carburetor. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.
great vid
I thought I was in over my head but this video saved my GL1100 project bike. Thank you
Your content is amazing, so thankful for your videos
If i have any issuewith video it would to not use brown scratch pad. That is very rough. Maybe green but for sure follow up using blue to really polish cylinder. Other wise great video
i gotta find that can of schmutz 😂
why do repair guys always play music , I cant hear what hes saying
The strps of the rubber pieces at 8:20 is what i need tobsee in detail
Doing my GL1000 carbs tomorrow. Have only ever replaced throttle cables, so this is very interesting. Thanks for the excellent video.
where do you buy the oem fuel sender unit? can’t find it anywhere
Where did you buy your rebuild kits at
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do I need to replace bearings?
Very clear instructions
Great videos
Thanks for this...I was able to use the concepts here to unfreeze the piston in my master cylinder on my 2003 GW. It's as good as new.
Guess you gave up
I saw no mention of the feeler gauge adjustment?
Thanks great video
I will be removing mine today great video.

I am a new owner of a 1985 GoldWing. Boy oh boy, is it gonna need some work. You, my friend are 'Heaven' sent. Thank-you so very much for these videos. I watched the carburetor rebuild. Tricky. I might pull it off after watching that incredible video.
Very good video. It's going help me alot very soon when i have to rebuild the pump on my H180. It started to leak a little last season. Thanks for the video.
needle jet? mine didnt have one!!
I was just gifted an 86 aspencade, this is by far the most helpful video on the matter, and made me realize that if I have to pull the tank, I might as well have a tire on hand especially since the bikes been sitting about 12 years
