My Past 2 Years of Cancer Treatment
On August 24th 2022, I was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) at 20 years old. Here’s a part 2 to continue an overview how my life has been since the diagnosis.
I’m Petal Palmer and I bring you stories of medical cases and mysteries from around the world.

Sigh... My mom had a brain surgery done that left half of her face numb and paralyzed. when she was in recovery, a nurse came in and SCRUBBED her fresh wound. My mom screamed in pain and yelled at her to stop but she continued regardless, and then left without sauing a word. My mom was left crying in pain, and since then she has had pain at the site of operation and it cant even be touched. He dropped her a patient when the complications followed.

In this particular case, due to the lying and missing appointments and paranoia about treatments, diagnosis for the Mother of Münchausen’s By Proxy should be considered. 14-17 years old children’s brains are not fully developed in abstract thinking, and can be influenced by others in whom they admire (parents, etc.,). Of course the children’s wishes should be considered, however, these types of circumstances are very complex.

My father went through chemo and beat cancer. The delayed treatment due to the mother being a conspiracy theorist is what killed her. Denying her lifesaving medical treatment killed her. She had to go on chemo because she was DYING. She could've lived if she got treatment sooner. Unbelievable! That mother said she doesn't believe in chemicals while she's wearing a full can of hairspray on her head!

As someone who was homeschooled, you believe what your parents believe until you get out and live on your own. There's not one single doubt in my mind that Cassandra believed that the chemicals used in chemotherapy were bad or not helpful or whatever her mother believed to make her not pursue treatment because that was fed to her by her mother. I agree there should be ways to determine whether or not a minor is able to be competent enough to choose the medical treatment they want, yet despite this, I still feel that Cassandra would not have been competent. She did not live in reality and instead was encircled in the trench of insane ramblings her homeschooling parent passed onto her without other options. I don't fault Cassandra for that, homeschooling is an incredibly isolating experience and in a lot of ways can isolate other schools of thought from the picture hence why she was most likely very reluctant to use the help of doctors. At the end of the day her mother's ideology is what caused her to prolong her treatment and inevitably caused her death. I feel sorry for everybody in this case but I definitely feel sorry for Cassandra. She was not only abused by the medical system but most definitely neglected by her mother.

The first round of chemo my mum had she lost all her body hair, eyelashes, eyebrows, hair, underarm hair literally everything. The second round later on when it wasn't working, she didn't lose any hair, she had eyelashes, eyebrows, her hair did stay on the thin side, that which had grown back from the first time, but she didn't lose any, its very dependant on the type of chemo you have and your individual reaction to it. It pisses me off even more when people fake it as it then makes it seem like anyone whop keeps hair or eyelashes must then be faking it, when in fact it can happen quite frequently its just this happens to be the way most scammers are first noticed. Unfortunately my mum lost her fight to cancer last month, people need to stop faking this why would you even want to tempt fate!

I do think that it's ethically questionable to force chemo on someone, but on the other hand, would she have gotten treatment willingly right away if her mother had NOT influenced her? we don't know if she would have been fine if she had gotten treatment immediately and there had been no delays. maybe she would have died anyway. but her mother absolutely has a hand in this, all due to stubbornly insisting that she knew better than doctors. Doctor shopping is one thing when you have something that isn't about to kill you, but cancer is not the type of illness where you shop around for third, fourth, fifth opinions until someone confirms that your child actually doesn't have cancer while their clock is ticking. The fact that the doctor's appointments at the start were ignored is what really bugs me here. that was not a rational, educated decision. Addition: It's not clear if she delayed the second round of treatment because of the chemicals or because she wanted the babies safe and this was the only thing she *could* do while pregnant. I would never blame a mother for putting her children first.

Alt med is stupid, however that isn't my issue with any of this situation. The thing of the whole situation is that I completely believe in bodily autonomy. Do I think that it's stupid that her mother filled her head with alt med nonsense and probably antivaxx shit? Absolutely. However she was also clearly terrified of being forced to have tubes semi permanently inserted into her body and wasn't okay with that. It wasn't something she consented to, something that she was okay with. That's why she ran away. Her mother is at fault for her eventual death for giving her the ideas about alt med, however it was wrong to do what they did when she was 17. They could have done something else to treat that cancer, they could have done radiation if they're going to force someone to go through medical treatment, but they forced her to have tubes inserted into her chest and that isn't okay. This was no better than all the people who want to force women to carry and birth children that they don't want or won't live. The American government is corrupt and unacceptable in it's current form and yet nobody does anything and allow it to continue to spiral down to handmaids tale levels of dystopia.

If chemo is SO good, why do most *doctors* report that they would never take it? Curious. Also it’s so weird that 12 year olds in many states in the US are deemed ‘adult’ enough to _get MARRIED and have babies_ but a *17 year old* isn’t sufficiently adult to make her own medical decisions? No, this wouldn’t have _anything_ to do with cancer ‘treatment’ being a multi billion dollar industry…

They couldve treated her at home with real antibiotics ordered through the mail or mexico and given bettwr odds. They should have had a line to her heart to prevent sepsis and once sepsis hit and different antibiotics as if no immediate relief within 30 mins sometimes sooner and sometimes at second dose the fever and kiddo should have felt better if the child is not something else needs to be done. They murdered her.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for making people feel seen and heard and being so open about sharing your own story. Although I have never had cancer thank god, so many parts of your story resonate with me. I have two genetic conditions and several other chronic illnesses. When you talked about getting a spinal tap and then getting a blood patch, I literally yelled. I’ve had three spinal taps and I swear I can still feel the headaches today. I have no idea how you are to do it every month. I have also experienced the never ending hunger and moon face that comes with steroids. Patient advocacy is such an important topic. People need to share their stories so no one else has to go through what they did. I’m sure a lot of people including myself would be willing to do a video or share their experiences on your channel. Keep doing what you’re doing. The medical industry has a lot of dark secrets and it’s time someone shined a light on them.

I agree that forcing tubes inside her contributed to medical trauma, combined with her mother's conditioning she probably feared medicine. I wish the court had been able to appoint her a 3rd party advocate whose job it was to separate her from her mother and connect her with doctors to supply full education on treatment. That could have rectified the situation. She should have been separated from her mother, medically.

In the Netherlands all the schools have to meet the same standards but there are still areas where a high level of kids with a migrant background bring down the class levels. So they are trying to get to those kids who may speak poor dutch as early as possible by making them attend preschool before the age of 4. If you give the kids the extra help they catch up in time. If your peers are not doing well in school kids tend to also not do very well. Instead of affirminative action they should get more good teachers and pay them well and start getting the kids into a learning environment super early so that by the time they start to learn counting, readingand writing they are just as prepared as all the other kids. Some of these kids are just not getting the learning environment at home or in the daycare where there are too many other kids. Regular school starts at age 4 already but underprivilaged kids need earlier intervention.
