I think it's funny he was suddenly "committed" to his girlfriend who he thought was going to die in 6 months. That's... not commitment at all. 😂😂 He didn't want her, not in any real way, until he knew there was a definite end date. He more likely got swept up in feeling like he HAD to "commit" which means she read him like a book and chose the right trap.

I think a big part of the reason why scams like these manage to succeed for so long is that no one wants to be the one to say "I think you're lying about your cancer"

    • @cmpvariety1764

Exactly. I know myself I wouldn't want to say you're lying about your cancer, and then they actually do have cancer and there's proof. Yeah no thanks.
Editing this to say I am not condoning what she did, and if I could tell other people about it I would, believe me, but confronting her I don't think so. Just know because if she really did have cancer, then I'm going to look like the butthole.

They don’t have to say it directly, usually our gut instincts will give us an unsettling feeling about a situation.
In those cases, small things and investigations can go a long ways.
For instance, she never wanted BF to go inside to her cancer appointments. 🤔
He could have randomly went inside one day to use the restroom or grab a coffee ☕️.
      Etc etc

this is so true even in less dire instances (see: protonjohn playing a romhack by someone supposedly dying of cancer a few years ago, only to about halfway through say "so it turns out...." but he played it anyways because he didn't want to be the guy who questioned it). just wild it keeps happening.

hi hi, i'm the step-daughter of someone actively faking cancer and possibly other health concerns and let me tell you, everyone knows. they just never say anything and i still haven't figured that part out yet, especially with how vile she is.
i don't mostly because i am no contact with her but i tell everyone what she's done and 75% of the time, they already know/ figured it out. our family events are mostly just hours long roast sessions of my step-mother and every year, more people join in. funnily enough, she shares her name with a rather infamous category 5 hurricane so we just compare her to that 😅
(didn't expect this to get more than a like or two, i just wanted to add that i know for a fact she's faking because i was a stand in POA for her when she accused my father of abuse (didn't happen btw) and i personally asked her doctor who confirmed she'd been cancer free for five years at that time. a red flag that caused me to ask was her not knowing what type of cancer she had, she would say leukemia or hodgkin's lymphoma but that she "wasn't sure". while both are similar in a way, it was unusual for her not to know, she always knew exactly what she was being treated for. my father, her usual POA, even confirmed that her doctor's hadn't mentioned cancer to him and that they always "talked about the cancer" when he wasn't in the room. while my situation is unique in that i know without a shadow of a doubt that she's lying, in most situations where someone is faking an illness there is still a possibility that they aren't. save yourself the hassle (and possible ruined relationship) by finding proof, not just blindly claiming they're faking. most of my family only had a hunch she was faking until it was confirmed.

This is just my experiences and pure speculation. I think she waited for the opportunity to get miraculously better. Especially after the gofundme, I think she thought she can take a nice vacation in Europe with that money and come back from her ‘alternative treatment’, cured. People like this need more attention and just take it too far, because the attention feels too good. The end game becomes muddled, but since they are habitual liars, they think they can always fix the plot with new lies. Here it started with the need to keep her bf, then she milked attention from friends, next the internet and soon she was scamming for money. At least she didnt claim to be cured by some woowoo treatment or healthy living trend like Belle Gibson, so she didnt end up harming, even killing, others. Tho, I think she got caught before she could do that.. I have met 4 people like her in my life, two managed to leave a mess for me to clean; now Im wiser, but pretty cynical over new pregnancies or self-harm threats..

My sister has stage 4 ovarian cancer it was a devastating diagnosis. My dad being a rational and planning man was just like “ Ok where do we go from here, what specialist need to be seen and what is the treatment plan?”etc. My sister actually told him “ Why are you gonna waste your money on me, I might not even make it.” My dad told her “ Don’t you ever say something like that again, money is the least of our worries, you stop talking down to yourself and focus on fighting this. A lot of people have survived this and so can you!” Luckily my sister took really well to chemo and radiation so things are looking good. I hope other women with this can overcome it as well! @@exessen1684I wrote a long comment with some of my experiences already. If you can’t find that, petal says treatment is a hysterectomy for ovarian cancer which doesn’t make sense - why would you remove your uterus for a mass on your ovary? The prognosis is also variable on which stage of cancer not just because of the treatment, but because of what actual type of cancer you have. I had a better prognosis at stage II than what was said in the video, and I’m assuming she took an average survival rate across each stage without taking into consideration what actual type (but she didn’t say that).

Yes, if you have private health you can go through private and it will cost more but if you are worried about money - public system baby!
(Yes not being able to work means losing income, but the actual treatment costs in Australia can be literally zero.)

      @Vladi0310 bit to unpack there.
Not least that it literally doesn't matter in this case because she didn't have any cancer at all. I was pointing out that if someone is asking for money here in Aus, particularly if they are claiming to get treatment in a public hospital - that's a big old red flag for a scam.
I didn't actually make any claim about which is "best" - and this would obviously vary greatly depending on location, doctors in each system in that location, the condition you have, the resources available at the hospital etc etc. I could counter and point out my totally free orthopaedic surgery with a leading orthopaedic professor through a public hospital, while a cousin went private for almost the same break and got an older surgery technique that meant she had to be wheelchair bound for 12 weeks whilst I was doing hydrotherapy and physio within 6. Individual cases are going to vary greatly even within the system you go through.
I am glad you found a doctor/hospital that was able to help you!

My grandma had ovarian cancer and ironically had to stop her plans of leaving her alcoholic husband due to her diagnosis. She was a waitress, had no insurance and had to have experimental treatment that involved hours of small radiation balls being inserted inside of her. When they pulled them out, she said she felt it was like all her insides came out with them. She continued working and raised her kids with no help from her husband. Those "treatments" killed the cancer...and destroted her insides. She had to put what looked like little wax candles inside her vagina to keep it from scarring shut. It didnt work well. She barely had anything left down there and suffered with pain the rest of her life. But she was lucky, unlike the great majority of other women who felt they had no choice but to offer themselves to be experimented on alongside her, did not survive.
Anyone who has suffered any type of cancer treatment is unbelievably strong. It sucks to see so many people lying about it.

We discuss the childhoods of cult leaders to try and explain why they ended up that way. But large scale manipulators like this, like people who are arrested for massive collar crimes, like the tinder swindler, etc. never have their childhoods discussed, despite also being people who dedicate their life to being horrible. Obviously murder is worse than all the other stuff, but that doesn’t mean the people who do all that other stuff aren’t evil or that we shouldn’t try and understand them to catch them sooner

Maybe he didn’t have many encounters with the Australian healthcare system, at least not to this extent. If this woman was able to manipulate and lie to hundreds, is it really that out of the realm of possibility to lie to him as well? And she cemented herself in his life despite him stating that he isn’t looking for something in the long run, so the manipulation started early one. Spending more time with her and caring for her meant that he was trapped and exposed to her lies more than others. I believe that he is a victim of her emotional abuse(he wouldn’t have taken thousands of dollars in loans if his end goal was making money, money that was proven to be spent by his girlfriend). He also wouldn’t have quit his job in the army(where your record matters so so much). I believe that her attempt at painting Brad as the big bad guy, the brains of this operation and an accomplice is yet another lie to cover her ass(she proved countless times just how much of a pathological liar she is) So unless further evidence emerges, I won’t punch down on an already broken man

I know that smoking and genetics play a big part, she was a non smoker with no history though. It completely blew my mind how everyone was so blind. I get not everyone shaves their hair, but, she said she was getting chemo AND radiation and if you know; it will most likely cause hair loss. This lasted only three months and i left. After that, no mention of cancer. What a coincidence. SMH . The lengths people will go instead of being genuine and getting the help they so desperately need. Another girl in my high school did the same to her boyfriend but she went the full 9 yards. One thing ive taken away from my view is that if someone doesn’t love you, you need to keep it moving. Its so unnecessary and i feel like it calls bad juju in your life.
Let me add she went on to have a successful pregnancy literally six months later. Im not saying its not possible; but highly unlikely given such a diagnosis. Now that i am in medical school it makes even more sense 🤦🏻‍♀️

I really respect this mindset, but my mindset is a little different. I have some disposable income that I set aside to donate each month - obviously if you dont have the extra money I would not advocate donating to anyone, especially given the risk of scams. But at least for me I do still choose to donate to gofundmes and the like as I believe, even in the vast minority of cases where I may be donating to a scam, the likelihood that the person “scamming” to get money is also in need is pretty high imo. Most people don’t scam like this woman, most scam because they themselves are in a desperate position and are willing to compromise moral boundaries to get money, the same way some people steal food or etc. I feel okay donating to someones medical fund as, even if this is not someone w a medical issue who is effectively scamming me, they are likely still in need, and need my disposable income more than I do

Don't be so naive, if someone is willing to lie to you to take your money they don't see you as anything more than a transaction. If they are so in need it's most likely because they've pushed everyone who loves them away by being awful to people, hence why they are okay with scamming people now.

Even after that I've seen some crazy stuff, we had a girl fake cancer at one of my old jobs because she was lazy and didn't want to do any work. So she came up with the bright idea to have "cancer" so she could always be "too nauseous" and "too dizzy" to do anything and could call out at-will. Eventually HR was tired of waiting for her to bring in documentation for FMLA so they fired her and her sister discovered her lie by following her "to treatment" one day. Small-ish town, we all loosely knew each other outside of work.

I moved from my home in Houston back to Dallas to spend every single day caring for her, it was devastating. I also lost my dad from metastatic cancer that spread to his brain. I can’t imagine someone doing this when it’s absolutely heartbreaking. We never raised money, we never had help. It’s baffling to me how they justify it in their mind.

If i'd found out that one of them had been scamming, I would have been heartbroken, because it was already so rare to find someone who had been there. ovarian cancer is really, really rare (1-3% general population, though of course people like me have higher risk-30-50%) and so my heart hurts for anyone in her support groups, especially for young people in the group, who would have a hard time finding anybody who understood that particular experience.

Small quibble. Stage 0 isn't no cancer, it's what is also referred to as cancer in-situ, meaning it's self contained and hasn't spread into nearby tissue. There ARE certain types of cancers that are classified as stage 5, but you could count those on one hand and ovarian cancer isn't one of them. Best guess, Lucy got confused about the "five stages of cancer" and didn't realize they go from 0-4, not 1-5. Which is such a rookie mistake it's like she didn't even try at all.
A friend of mine had stage 4 ovarian cancer and I can't for the life of me understand why someone would try to fake it. It's one of the most brutal diagnoses a person can get. Even people who survive past the five year mark don't often live a normal lifespan. Less than ten percent are expected to survive as long as ten years. Ovarian cancer almost always comes back; it's just a matter of when, and the medical upkeep even after being declared no evidence of disease is INTENSE, you basically live at the doctor's. Trying to keep this con going long-term would've been nearly impossible.

Random comment with regards to the PICC line since I gather from the videos of yours I’ve seen you’re as into geeky medical details as I am.
I’ve been living with various forms of central lines for the last 15 years and can say both that I see and regularly have people- including my own care providers and with my own medical record- misname and mislabel lines all the dang time. Wouldn’t even be surprised or make anything of the misspelling either.
BUT- what I thought you’d find even more interesting is that I have very literally had a PICC line placed centrally. Like my usual line for my particular need (TPN and IV hydration and meds- so it’s in constant use and hence no port as one would generally expect a cancer patient to receive) is a hickman and it’s tunneled in my chest wall, enters at the base of my neck into my internal jugular and obviously the end of the line rests in my SVC or the upper part of my heart. I had a PICC line placed in the same exact way. It was the worst line I ever had since while it was tunneled, it doesn’t have a cuff like a hickman or broviac style line does. That also means that rather like with a PICC in one’s arm, it doesn’t heal in place and can slide in and out and easily become dislodged.
There’s a lot of geeky in depth debate over the benefits of various types of lines over others but it is pretty nonsensical to place a PICC that way. Mine was done a good 14 years or so ago and the only reason I can think of for why it was given to me is simply that there was nothing else in stock. Back in that time though- another maaaaybe reason to have done it would be if I needed it for specific medical procedures like CT that uses a power injector. Hickman and similar are generally made of silicone and not safe for use with a power injector. Most PICC lines, as was the case with the one I had in my chest/ IJ, are made of polyurethane and can be used with the power injector. About 10-12 years ago the manufacturer of hickman and broviac lines did come out with a power/ polyurethane hickman. It looks almost identical to the brands purple power PICC. But has a cuff for the sake of tunneling and longer term use. So now there is no reason whatsoever (unless the whole “this is what we have in stock”) to place a PICC centrally. But basically saying- it can be done and I’ve had one.
Anyway- loads of geekery there. I see from the photo you shared she’s using a nontransparent dressing. I’m going to go with what I assume without watching past the PICC line part of the video- that she likely never had a line of any kind to begin with. I’ve noticed fakers always use nontransparent dressings. Which makes sense. Gotta cover up what isn’t there- either a line exiting the skin or a port needle in place. Not to make light of the fact some folks have allergies and all but transparent dressing is heavily preferred for any sort of line so one can monitor for infection and nontransparent dressings are supposed to be changed much more often (accepted guideline is 3 days for nontransparent while a week/7 days is the standard with transparent ones such as tegaderm and the like). Mostly I doubt she ever had a line if it’s all fake since it’s not easy to get one without having some kind of legitimate need. And then theres the issue of how ports can be deaccessed for showers or even for months at a time while any other form of central line or picc is going to require daily maintenance however long it's in place.
It's late and I'm tired so apologies if more details than necessary. But given the focus you gave it, I hope you found this useful.

I don't really want to uh... Call her out? 😅 But for everyone below:
A central line goes into the carotids and only the carotids. [Vampire joke here].
If you look at the image provided, there's one named the subclavicular. That, despite it's literally placement below the collarbone, is a peripheral nerve because it goes to the arm. Hence: PICC line goes here. One more reason... Here... Breast cancer patients can never get blood work from the affected side because there's usually a lymph node or two because
      cancer lymph

I did basically tell the doctor to take whatever they could out. My ovaries almost crushed my kidneys because I was a dumbass who knew I wasn't well but didn't want to admit it might be something serious. I had lost a lot of weight before I went in to actually get checked out. Had to have nephrostomy tubes in both kidneys for 3 months. Was not fun.
