    Throw some ATF down the cylinder,let it drain/weep past rings into sump,if compression is noticibly higher, try to see if it will fire on ether/ carburetor cleaner. 75 psi or higher cold,should start. If not pull piston,put in ultrasonic cleaner or get dirty with gas/ carburetor cleaner, toothbrush size wire brush clean/ free up rings and slots in pistons. With head obviously off, and spark plug still in,poor gas on combustion chamber,if gas quickly escapes into exhaust/intake chambers,you'll need to lap valves if save able and you'll still need to lap new valves so it has a perfect seal. If gasoline can escape quickly during test so can your fuel-air mixture; hence very low compression to not make bang happen.

    I'm going to comment early into my viewing. I only needed to hear it for 2 seconds and could hear what was wrong. You sir have a fuel delivery issue. It could be that your intake valve isn't opening, it could be a fuel line issue. It could be a fuel filter issue. However, the behavior of ignition 1/4th cycle followed by fire followed by dry turnover indicates that you are getting fuel to the cylinder but not steadily and not uniformly. What I would do to be safe is new lines and a new filter. Make sure to prime the shit out of the lines, just disconnect the spark plug and turn it over until you smell gas. dump all fuel that's over 6 months old out that might still be in the tank clean the inside out of any possible debris, any simi fine powder would do it like this. For instance metal cutting in the area while cap is off could cause this. sawdust is the most common culprit. I hope this helps. it could be as cheap as 10 bucks if you kinda know what your doing.

    • @jacobcoughlin2408
      @jacobcoughlin2408 13 днів тому

      so after hearing a little more, your valves are also improperly set. its a DOC engine right? to be safe id do the fuel lines still but yeah your valves are out of spec. it almost fired up. you'll get it. check your grounds. even if they look fine, take it up and bare the metal back shiny again just to be certain

    It sounds like compression is coming out the intake. Have you put a compression gauge on it? It sounds like timing is off. If timing is right and compression is low, could be burned valves or stuck rings. You said there was a rust ring on the cylinder wall, it might not be a bad idea to pour some WD-40 in spark plug hole and let sit. You'll probably find compression is too low. If you've got fuel and fire, it almost has to be.

    • @TexasHillbilly
      @TexasHillbilly 13 днів тому

      It had slight vacuum at the carb when cranking, definitely not pressure. I haven’t checked compression with a gauge yet, just the finger test. The back story is it just sat for years, but that could be inaccurate. How could the timing be off? Timing gears/chain look perfect. I should verify it anyway. We broke it free with wd-40 in the cylinder. I spun it over for a while with a drill while spraying lube down the plug while.

    • @topher8634
      @topher8634 13 днів тому

      @@TexasHillbilly the only way it could be off is if it jumped or from improper service. Do you know why it sat for so long? Was it running when parked? I'd be curious to know the compression. Keep in mind if the cylinder has been flooded with a bunch of fuel/solvents the walls will be washed down and compression will be low. You'll have to put a little oil in the spark plug hole and let it sit a bit

    • @topher8634
      @topher8634 9 днів тому

      @@TexasHillbilly I would verify timing marks line up. Chinese small engines are quirky. It could have jumped a tooth or three. I would also be suspicious of stuck rings with it being previously seized.

    • @TexasHillbilly
      @TexasHillbilly 9 днів тому

      @@topher8634 we verified timing. It is dead on. I believe it does not have compression. I thought it did, but it’s showing zero on the gauge. I’m thinking trash between the valve and seat as I hear compression coming out the exhaust port. What are you thoughts?

    • @topher8634
      @topher8634 9 днів тому

      @@TexasHillbilly very well could be. I could hear some too, but sounded like it was coming through intake. That could be video phenomenon though as you said there was vacuum at carb. I would pop the head off and flip over then pour water on valves to see if they are leaking. I would still be wary of the rings too because of the previous seizing.

    Know nothing about Chinesium motors, but here's my 2 cents. It almost looked like the plug (in the bright light mind you) might be weak and strong alternately. I'd imagine you already changed plugs, so maybe the cdi, or the wires if it sat for any length of time. If it were a coil unit I'd say timing, but that's not the case here. Is there a stator on that motor? I've had a bad stator that acted similar.

    • @TexasHillbilly
      @TexasHillbilly 13 днів тому

      I did swap plugs despite the original looking perfect. Everything points towards timing.

    • @ChristianandFamily
      @ChristianandFamily 13 днів тому

      @@TexasHillbilly If it has a stator and pickup that failed that would certainly create the timing issue, or even the wires to the cdi could do the same thing by interrupting the timing/firing signal. hayed when my bikes cdi/stator/coil would fail, almost impossible to diagnose using traditional methods.

    Nice 4 door Omni! My dad had a 1982 Omni 024 ( 2 door hatchback) and that thing lasted a lond time. Did pretty well in winter also. They had some pep for a small car. If you have a check engine light on you might be able to cycle the key on off on off on then the light usually flashes a series of times. Like my 95 caravan did a series of 2 flashes and 1 flash for an O2 sensor. Not sure if that holds true for the omni but figured I would suggest it.

    TexasHillbilly: easiest way to get proper toe-in on your Omni is measure track from center of tires ( side to side); 1/4 inch less width in overall track at front will provide good balance in steering returning to center and steering straight on all but obscene road crowns. Seamstress tape or tape measure is all that's required to complete toe-in task. For camber, loosen both knuckle strut bolts slightly; use stout prybar. Place mini level at top center of tire, bubble should barely-very slightly nudge outward( aka negative camber)of car. Camber is primarily to lessen bump steer, improve ride and handling. Both tasks are done with full weight of vehicle on ground or both front tires evenly balanced atop ramps or blocks of wood.
