Hey Teia Just a heads up. I knew Melusine online many years ago. We were both part of the same closed online forum. It was one if those one where you had to apply to be let in. Melusine was the admin that approved my ability to join that group and trust me she did not make it easy by any means. You are definitely right about the snark in this book and many of her books. I used to receive that same snarkiness from many on that Traditionals forum. That said, I wanted to share a perspective to just give a different view. Imagine you love Halloween and all the traditions that go with it. Now imagine it is 30 years later, and you are a Grandma now that can’t wait to take your Grandson to his first Halloween party. Suddenly you discover no one dresses up in costume for Halloween anymore. You further discover that the young people think halloween is all about decorating their homes with yellow eggs and waiting for the great fushia pink Halloween bunny 🐰 that kids no longer get candy at halloween and now they get Bran Muffins! 🤮 you try to encourage all your friends and family to carve Jack-O-Lanterns and you try to tell them about Ghost stories and scary movies and no one has any recollection of the version of Halloween you remember. They all insist that this neon pink version of Halloween is all that ever existed. You do some research and start to discover that the complete erasing of the Halloween you knew can be traced back to a handful of books from just 10-12 years earlier. All the books around these new Bran Muffin versions of Halloween are mostly from the same publisher. Now there is no more Costumes, Halloween Candy, No more Ghost Stories, Haunted houses, Horror movies all of it is just gone. Now even if you were the most adaptable and flexible person and just decided to fully embrace the NEW bran muffin Pink Halloween. There would still be a part of you pissed at the loss of so much Halloween tradition at the hands of a few irresponsible publishers. Many legit Traditional Witches do come off as angry… because we will never know how beautiful the tradition they saw fade from memory actually was.

I've just got my old Pentacle metal necklace that I had growing up and wish to cast a spell through it as someone I know has been ignoring my explanation for something that happened not long ago that seemed like something I'd done but hadn't (It was someone else) and though explaining this, the person has now decided to ignore my explanation. I wish for them to see reason and not throw away our relationship just because someone acted as if they were me and sabotaged/influenced the person I was with into having a false impression of me. My thing about the common core belief that witches were in league with a devil. Didnt come from actual practices, but because Christians believed in the devil so therefore accused people who worshipping it. Nothing more. Now if anyone has evidence of lets say pagans accusing other pagans of being in league with a evil being, and hexing people. And were looked upon as being bad and to be avoided. Then ill change my mind. But practicing magic, especially galdr and seither were common practices amongst the Norse. And magick was practiced amongst most pagan societies and wasnt looked upon as being evil in of itself.

If I may speak without being judged. I'm a real-life witch. My family has survived the English and Salem Wich Trials and even in the Consitraon camps in WW2. There's no point in making someone not happy. Real-life witches can help in more than one way. They can heal someone physically, mentally, and / or spirituality. And if you think about it. Jesus came back to life, and to do that is restriction. And in order to do that, you would need to do something that is like a spell. To remove a demon or nagitive spirit, you would need to basically do a ritual to do that. Now think what I just told you

I think most modern witches are Pagans of some variety, but agreed not all are. Folk magic practitioners are often Christian, Buddhist, Taoist etc. I'm not sure what the difference between witchcraft & magic. I think witchcraft is in part magic but includes other non magical elements.

Youre not supposed to cite sources or original authors in an actual book of shadows because it brings bad luck (it used to bring death) to the original author... The witches wheel starts on Yule. Not imbolc...

Kind of like when I light a stick of incense and maybe light a candle as well for a housework motivation spell. Start somewhere in the kitchen and say something like "what can shine will shine!" Common sense with a little added magical essence makes the mundane more exciting.

The word “witch” is an umbrella term (derived from weik) which translates to sorceress/sorcerer/magician. In pre-christian Europe sorcery was neither a men’s nor a women’s space. Among Norse people, there were more women who practiced magic. Among Celtic, it was both men and women. This is true for there Goddesses/Gods as well.
