Haha, 90s teen 'The Craft' got me into it witch right here! This was great! This is such an important thing to point out to folks, especially as there is such a wealth of information and so many avenues to access these days; so thank you for tackling it. I'd also say that podcasts are a great way to get information. Some of my fave podcasts will interview neopagan/magcial authors, which gives you a really good feel of their experience and viewpoint before you part with any cash for books. I discovered some of my current day fave authors via pagan and witchcraft pods.
My natural inclination is to always go to books before anything else and the only books I read without bibliographies are novels, lol. I taught rhetoric and writing comp at the college level for a few years and having written a grad thesis and preparing academic research to write books myself, I know it takes a long time to study and formulate careful and thoughtful execution. I'm happy to stay in this study phase with witchcraft for now!
Omg I love this video!! I wanted to a video on this as well, but didn't know how not to come off as being bossy haha. This is (imo) a huge issue on forums. People are so lazy now-a-days (I sound so old haha), but they don't want to research anything on their own. From my experience, the hard part is filtering folk/family traditions (i.e. no references would be available) from the bs. But a lot of times, people forget that witchcraft is a practice, so sometimes, you just gotta try it out and see. Oh, I am also not a fan of books created by content creators. 🙃
I agree that you do have to think critically. With magic though...eh...how are we going to evaluate that you know? I think maybe you have to experience it for yourself. Try it and see what happens, with in reason, use critical thinking, if it feels unsafe, it's unsafe for you, don't do it. And research in magic is definitely suspect. Alistair Crowley for example, everyone holds him up as the end all be all. Actually, he was a lascivious narcissist who was banned from Italy (by Mussolini!) for killing a young man in one of his bizarre rituals! Then he died in poverty. Um...and he's the gold standard? Hard pass thanks. And magic is kind of like cooking. You might not have a particular ingredient, so you do a substitution. It might not be the same, it might be better! It could be disastrous! But that's part of the fun of cooking isn't it? Trying new things? Magic is very personal. What works for one person, might not work for you. You have to try it to see.
Thank you for this video!!

Yes do the research then DO the Witchcraft!!
I sooo love books, I do look at book recommendations from youtube witches but check reviews on the book first.

Teia, What is your opinion on reading the back of the book first ?
Harmony Nice also wrote a book about Wicca
Well, yes, reading the back of the book is important. I’m not familiar with Harmony Nice, I’m not Wiccan.
@@TeiaKennedy I thought th as t I'd mention it...since Harmony started as a UA-cam Witchcraft content creator
