I have been running the 3650 machines for 15 plus years as i own a snowplow business.. The machine is supposed to serge when idling then when you engage the handle the rpm's go smooth and that is when you make the rpm adjustment and its 4000rpm for that machine and the 2450 as well as they are same exact engines . reason for the surging is to keep the engine from getting to hot and to also not wear them out and to keep them from flooding as they need to rev.. All My machines are at least 15 plus years that i owned them and i bought them all used.. second the plastic carbs are garbage as the bowls crack and leak.. third, leave the tank full during storage as if you have the aluminum carbs they will oxidize from being exposed to air during off season. i start mine maybe 3 to 4 times during off season so maybe ounce a month during spring summer when i go to mow my lawn ill let it run for 5 minutes..

@@woodysgarage469 Also, toss those Center gap sparkplugs. Those parts diagrams are from 40 years ago. A few of my factory service manuals list those parts, with the caveat, “for continuous hi speed use”. Most of the years for that motor, (and quite a few of the smaller HP motors), call for the Champion L77JC4, or QL77JC4. Put those in & have no problems.

My HR14 would not start when purchased. Cleaned the carburetor throughly and now it starts and runs good. Only problem is if I leave the fuel valve open overnight, all the gas leaks out. Is that normal if you leave the fuel valve open?

When I put tubes in my 25 year old craftsman tires, I ended up drilling a new hole for the valve stem more towards the center of the rim. That stem would keep pulling back through otherwise. Another way to get the bead back on is to put a locking plier on that edge of the rim so the bead can’t pull off.

We went down to making only about 300 a week. So, the guy retired. He sold his company to a guy in Chicago. It only took 30 seconds to saw on the coping on the lid. To adjust the running rpm you bend out the tab under the kill switch to pull the spring tighter to the gov arm. Id say its definately an upgrade iv had problems with those crappy engines too. But I guess your screwd since the keyway is built into the pulley. Not much you can do there except make a new pulley. I would cut off the smaller one and weld a new 7/8 one on in its place. Then you can key off of that and still use your sleeve for the rest of it just to keep it aligned.
