To think that my first bug (70’ regular beetle that ran great) cost me $1100 in 1986. Now, a total basket case costs around $8k. As much as I’d love another bug, a VW sand rail makes way more sense and has no floor pan to dissolve.

I think my first Bug was around $40 in the 70's. My friends and I use to pull the bodies off and run them in the woods. I had a 36hp engine that just wouldn't die. I've owned Bugs, Ghia's and Bus's.

Looked decent the engines alone are getting pricey now. Here in Ny its easy to get a title if older then 72 but newer I think its very hard so I never buy anything newer its not worth the hastle. Of course on vws you have to be carefull the numbers match anyway because so many people used the papers from other bugs. My mom had a split window in the 60s that my grandpa got from the junkyard she swears it was a 58 but of course they didnt have split windows in 58.

The killer was the lack of a Title. I was going to get in touch with CarTitles.com the following Monday, and I knew by then it would be gone. Mass is useless in trying to get a Title. I've had 2 Ghia's before, 5-6 Bugs and of course my 1970 Bus that someone totaled a few years back. Happy Holidays Jeep.

@@woodysgarage469 A couple of body panels and a small box full of parts costs $1,000 today. I think Jay Leno said it, we'll put in $50,000 to make a $25,000 car.
