The Albion Mine: Dangerous Cave-ins Hide Epic Ice Rooms
Переглядів 833 роки тому
A series of collapses at the mouth of the Albion mine have flooded the first portion of the tunnels. Exploring this mine in the dead of winter allows us to walk in on ice instead of trying to navigate hundreds of yards of waist-deep water. Once inside, the mine is full of surprises.
Descents! Rappelling into Abandoned Mines

We poke around in several mines and find an elevator room with a 120-foot manway that's still sturdy enough to descend.
The 3.7 Million Dollar Wheelbarrow
Переглядів 753 роки тому
Mining historians write that shortly after staking the Albion claim, Tom traded his quarter-share in the operation for a wheelbarrow. Several years later, the mine sold for the equivalent of 15 million dollars, meaning that Tom's wheelbarrow cost him 3.7 million dollars.

HDJ81 Diesel Land Cruiser Cold Start at -18F
Переглядів 26 тис.3 роки тому
Cold start on a 1990 Toyota HDJ81 4.2L Turbodiesel at -18F/-28C. 325,000 km on the motor, 1000km on rebuilt injection pump and injectors. A high-flow fuel pin was installed when the injection pump was rebuilt and I'm pretty sure turning it down would reduce some of the black smoke on startup.
Skiing to the Delta Mine.

We ski in to the backcountry to explore the Delta, an abandoned mine.
It’s 24 volt on the starter, it helps a lot in cold conditions.
Amazing vid.

gasoline will dissolve teflon tape you put on the tank fitting
Are these old Aussie rigs imported to the states?
Both rigs are JDM imports.
@@treasurestateadventures1432 yea nice. Looks similar to what you see over here
the prado sounds so good.
Thanks! It has a VW TDI engine in place of the original Toyota 2L-TE diesel so it sounds a little different than most of them. A 2.5" straight pipe exhaust helps too!
That looks like a blast. I'd love some info on your rigs and where you are wheeling.
Thanks! The rigs are a 1990 HDJ81 VX Limited and a 1991 LJ78 Prado. The HDJ81 has triple lockers, factory winch, aftermarket fuel pin and a custom front mount intercooler. At 18psi it really scoots! The LJ78 has an OME 2" lift and is running a VW ALH TDI engine in place of the original Toyota diesel. Mods include a VNT17 turbo at 22psi, a Stage 4 tune and an R452 transmission gearing conversion. Driven carefully it will get 25+mpg on the highway and 23mpg around town. This trip was in the Tobacco Root Mountains in Montana.
it's actually pretty crazy that this started. most modern cars wouldn't start.
What is the worth of that car in the states?
Good old redblock. Nice Amazon and well done guys.
the 122S should have at least three chassis to engine woven copper ground wires. (20 years experience)
Appreciate this video. I work on a lot of Japanese cars. And I just recently acquired a 65 122s Amazon and love old vehicles. This is my first full restoration of an antique car
Nice to have that centering pin. Unfortunately the machine shop went all the way through with the hole for the bushing. They should had left a little gap there to let the bushing just go in to a certain point! Anyway, you gave your best and got them back together. I hope they worked!
Glad I sold my diesel for a gas recently. Cheaper and easier to work on, starts more reliably.
Yes
Fantastic rebuild and explanation. Looking at picking up a 122s this week and have to tear the carbs down for rebuild
That’s a legend . 25+ years old car is still working
Don't know how someone would think a 240 is better
Gotta have a good battery in winter. Try to get a block heater.
Holy smoke 🤣😂
Very good.
The Amazon looks spectacular, and.amazing get that Amazon going again.
That is excellent. It sounds fairly healthy. Well done.
Well done gents,, started first go once the fuel got there .. very impressive.. were you using the manual choke?
Thanks! I was impressed how readily it fired up. Every time we’ve started it the choke has been necessary. Otherwise it just cranks and cranks.
@@treasurestateadventures1432 good to see it's not smokey as well .. added bonus ... no death rattles either, though volvo B18 and B20s are a little noisey by nature ..
Great video. Your careful editing makes it smooth and interesting.
Your dry humor and witticisms are one of the best things on this channel (not counting the super cool mines and such)
Hello from Montreal. My California 65 had the glass bowl as OE. Got the kit, easy fix and looks great .
Good to know that the rebuild kit works well! The glass bowl fuel pumps do look really nice.
Montana?
Did the jet centering pin come with the rebuild kit?
The centering pin was part of a separate SU Carburetor adjustment toolkit.
@@treasurestateadventures1432 Thanks! Wasn't aware these existed. I just ordered a kit from Moss.
Triple locked one, rare and valuable!
The lockers were certainly a major influence in choosing this particular 80!
Surprised to see a fuel pump wiyh the glass bowl as I thought they had changed over before 65. Might be a replacement? Although they work well. Will follow your progress.
Interesting! When I went to purchase a new fuel pump, I couldn't find any glass bowl pumps that claimed to fit a 65 model year. It's totally possible that someone replaced the original with a glass bowl pump from the wrong model year.
Ahh that's nothing. Just a weekend of work. I've seen lot's of cars on the road in way much worse conditions than this gem. If the engine actually was seized, just swap it and you have a true roadwarrior for decades❤
Wow that's looking good!Very well documented so it will definitely come in handy when we come to that point later. Thanks! Keep up the good work.
Thanks! I'm glad you found the video helpful. We started knowing absolutely nothing about these carburetors, so I guess once the car is running we'll find out how well the rebuild job worked!
Well done guys, get vid, looking forward to your first start vid ... I also have a 1966 122s in the same white colour ...
Same here! Very excited to start the car for the first time. Neat to hear that you also have a 122s.
Dont you feel manual gears best for all conditions?
As a general rule I prefer manual gears, since they offer a more interactive driving experience. But when driving offroad I find the automatic transmission is very nice, as the torque converter makes tackling challenging terrain much easier. The manual transmission in Japanese domestic market HDJ81s has fairly low gears - since there are low speed limits in Japan - so it is not well suited to highway driving here in the US. For that reason also, I don't mind the automatic transmission.
@@treasurestateadventures1432no manual transmission very good and fast and strong
Auto 4 gear 👎
Glad to have found this video on the Volvo. Great job guys. Keep them coming. 👍
Thanks, will do!
My brother and I enjoyed visiting your shop. Thank you for the link to your UA-cam channel.
Thanks for coming by! It was great fun to talk cars and projects with you!
Shame you threw out the org beautifull glass bowled pump, and wasted money on a cheap aftermarket pump.
Rest assured, we definitely didn’t toss the glass bowl fuel pump! Our original plan was to rebuild it, but we had trouble finding a rebuild kit. The replacement pump is a temporary solution until we can get the original one in good working order
@@treasurestateadventures1432 Good to hear, those things are so nice to see in action. If the diaphragm is hard just remove all the screws around it, and soak the whole unit in gasoline for a week - then everything gets nice & soft again. If its cracked new ones is available. Just seach for AC fuelpump repair kits.
Treasure State Adventures the rebuild kit you are looking for will be for the PV444 part number 276223. You need a kit with one or two thin red rubber seals that looks like a flat washer. I’ve only found these through Skandix and CVI in Europe. Other AC rebuild kits don’t include this seal.
Good summary. Don't hesitate to document a little bit longer some phases. Work on the carburators seem a good focal point :)
😍yes please
the under boddy coating is standard by volvo when the car was made, only some cars for hotter climates don't have it, but its in nice shape your car
Very nice find! You guys remind us of the same thing we started a year ago. Have fun with the project and we'll be following. Looking forward to the progress.
Wow. It looks like it has really good bones! Dry and solid. Drain and replace all the liquids. Get a manual for the carbs and watch some UA-cam videos. I have an SU tool kit to send you. I think it is a good idea to get the engine running before investing to much work on anything else. Great video, by the way.
The tool kit arrived yesterday, and I just got the carburetor bodies back from having new throttle spindle bushings put in. Looking forward to getting them put back together and on the car!
Stuff like this always makes me happy, i have a -64 Amazon and i love it, it's a great daily driver
That’s great to hear! I’m very excited to get this car roadworthy and find out what it’s like to drive.
Well that was kinda intense
Exploring this mine was a lot of fun, but I was genuinely relieved to be out!
@@treasurestateadventures1432 I can imagine! Glad there were no emergencies
Hey look, Tim!
