The Brilliant, Terrifying Masterpiece of Termina
Fear & Hunger 2: Termina isn't just another horror game - it's a meditation on what happens when humans learn to systematize cosmic horror. Under its watching moon, fourteen strangers discover that surviving horror might mean becoming something worse than the monsters they fear.
This video explores how Termina subverts traditional cosmic horror by suggesting that humanity's greatest strength - our ability to understand, adapt, and improve upon everything we encounter - might make us the most terrifying force in any universe we inhabit.
Welcome back to another video! Sorry these are gradually taking longer and longer to make but I hope you do enjoy. Make sure to like and subscribe if you do enjoy at any point and let me know down below how and you felt, and what games you want me to cover in the future! Thanks for watching once again.

Why SOMA is Gaming's Greatest Existential Horror
Переглядів 22 тис.21 день тому
"Is there a heaven full of redunant copies of the same people? Is there someone up there who'd call me an imposter?" SOMA is a game that had a significant impact on me, and through this video essay, I want to try and explain - why? Through dissecting the narrative and it's themes, exploring the underwater tomb that is PATHOS-II, I seek to come to a conclusion on how exactly the game manages to ...
Fear & Hunger: The Lovecraftian Horror You Didn't Know About
Переглядів 66 тис.Місяць тому
"If you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you" - this saying perfectly encapsulates the horrific world of Fear and Hunger. This game, in my opinion, is the epitome of what good Cosmic Horror can be and it is this idea that I will explore in today's video. By analysing the narrative, the gameplay and the general atmosphere, I will conclude on how exactly Fear and Hunger achieves...
DIGITAL XENOSCAPES: The Allure of Unknown Worlds
Переглядів 425Місяць тому
Space has always held undeniable allure over me, specifically the concept of Alien worlds and the promise of untouched lands, that I could be the first to discover. It is this concept in which I am exploring in today's video, looking at how the games Satisfactory, Subnautica and D*ad Space all use Alien Worlds to create appeal and intrigue, then analysing them to find out why exactly these alie...
The Beauty of Cyberpunk 2077's Fleeting Dystopia
Переглядів 11 тис.Місяць тому
Cyberpunk 2077 stands as a game that, surprisingly, stood the test of time (even after the frankly disastrous launch). Still, there is an aspect of the game that is rarely talked about that I wish to discuss in today's video - the fleeting reality of the genre. In this video, I will explore how the game presents ephemerality, mainly through the narrative, recapping my thoughts on the game and e...
Fallout: New Vegas Is A Masterclass In Freedom
Переглядів 4,4 тис.Місяць тому
Fallout New Vegas is my, and many other people's, favourite game, but you may ask - why? In this video, I seek to explore the answer to this question through the pursuit of one theme - Freedom. Freedom of choice, gameplay and narrative are all essential parts of the New Vegas experience, and in this video, I seek to find out how exactly the game uses freedom. Through exploring the narrative, sp...
Elden Ring and the Allure of POWER
Переглядів 6 тис.2 місяці тому
Elden Ring is undeniably both massive and one of the best games of all time and is a game that I have played since launch. It was my first Soulsborne game, which opened up the proverbial rabbit hole for me. But today, I am here to discuss the themes of the game - more specifically the theme of power and how it's presented throughout the narrative of Elden Ring. From the Frenzied Flame to the ne...
Ready or Not: The Most Realistic Shooter Ever Made
Переглядів 8 тис.2 місяці тому
Ready or Not as a game is often stupidly realistic, featuring essentially photorealistic graphics and other gameplay mechanics that honestly, are borderline real. But you may ask, is this level of realism necessary? Especially with Ready or Not attempting to handle extremely sensitive topics - is the pursuit of realism in games necessary to games LIKE Ready or Not. In this video, I seek to come...
Dark Souls - Finding HOPE In A World of Dark
Переглядів 13 тис.2 місяці тому
Dark Souls is not a game that I would correlate with any ideas of hope, yet that is exactly what I am here today to discuss. In this video, I explore both Dark Souls 1 and 3 (including the Ringed City DLC) and how their narratives and atmospheres are filled with these ideas of hope. I dissect these games, analyse how they are hopeful, and conclude how exactly Miyazaki managed to integrate hope ...
Futility in Video Games - And Why It MATTERS
Переглядів 1,2 тис.2 місяці тому
Futility is an often overlooked aspect when dissecting any media, despite it being such a fundamental aspect of life. In this video, I will analyse how certain games use futility/powerlessness - specifically Bloodborne, and Black Ops 1. Black Ops 2, Black Ops 3 and Black Ops 4 zombies - to enhance the experience that they bring. I will also be looking at how this idea has permeated gaming as a ...
Space Marine Is Grimdark Done RIGHT
Переглядів 1932 місяці тому
Grimdark truly is one of the hardest genres to do effectively and without being overly edgy, but I think that Space Marine (2011) is one of the rare examples of games that do it right. In this video, I will be exploring how the game effectively uses the Grimdark genre, whilst also giving a plot synopsis so you are ready for Space Marine 2's release on the 9th of September 2024. Welcome back to ...
Medieval Lethal Company Is A Masterclass in Co-Op Horror
Переглядів 1942 місяці тому
This game is truly one of the co-op horror games of all time. PILGRIM is a game that is stylized similarly to games like Lethal Company, positing itself as the 'Medieval Lethal Company.' In this video, I will explore how the game effectively uses its mechanic to make a fun and engaging experience, whilst splicing in some gameplay of my own! Welcome back to another video, and once again, if you ...

The Most Unnerving Minecraft Horror That You’ve Never Seen
1:13:07 I think this theme is really well foreshown with Vinushka. Spoilers: Vinushka is shown in the skin bible of Vinushka as the entity of nature, who travels alongside it. It is one with nature and many entities wait their return. The reason why they await their return is, as shown in Enki's original skin bible, that they had died long ago. Vinushka is now the god of human guilt, as Ninush, their form as the god of nature, had died by human hands.
I am begging youtube essayists to reduce redundancy... this video could be 20 minutes shorter without much of the repetitive writing. It's good to drive points home but when it's just the same thing you said 2 minutes ago it's a little frustrating.
@@obbm :(
@NotSaberFrr not trying to be mean for no reason or anything, I just genuinely think these kinds of things could be much more effective with a few more editing passes and some conceptual/writing variety. Especially since you're obviously dedicated to the source material! Only up from here
Sorry lmfao didn't mean to make you feel bad it's all cool, I do get it a lot and it's smth I'm trying to improve upon :D
I thought that shit was about Majora's
If that blows your mind grapes Google quantum immortality
My gawd... oh lawd... this game is deep.
Babe wake up a new- no they’re fine I was just say- no everythings okay I was just saying a new Termina video dropped- You know ,like Fear and Hunger? I’m just going to go to my parents
... Am I one of the only people that answer that question with "Yes?" "If you had a perfect copy made of you, which is the real you?" Yes. "What do you mean yes?" Does it matter which one was the "real" one at that point? Heck, if you're paying attention that isn't even the question that's concerning about Soma, because none of the Simon copies are "perfect". They pointedly have different physical circumstances. No, what's really concerning is whether or not a copy can truly change. Cuz real talk, Simon is a straight up moron with how hard headed he is about the whole thing throughout the entire game. P.S. I had zero existential dread for the whole game even after finishing it.
I have never played this game or it's originator. It's punishing nature just isn't fun to me. But holy heck do I love it's lore and universe. It truly is a modern masterpiece of gaming.
Can't seem to get enough of Funger essays, but not so many of Termina out there, nice👌
you keep using "her" and "she" for Marina, thats a dude. Use male pronouns.
Great video. I've been listening to lore videos of my favorite video games while I'm at work lately, just to relive them and see if there were parts of the story I didn't pick up on. Soma was one of the most thought provoking games I played during covid, or ever. That ending scene, when we are truly left alone, is chilling.
Well, this is some quality content from someone with less than 4k followers. Time to go through your back catalog.
I feel like I know even less about this game after watching this
It's horrible i put this on mini player skipped an ad and it went to the next video which was a dead to right full on movie and i thought for the first 3 minutes it was just another long ass intro for a video essay
"Termina transforms cosmic horror from a genre about human insignificance, to one about human potential" That is a crazy line man.👍
Hay I think people could understand what your saying a lot better if you have visuals of what your saying instead of just random gameplay
I am subscribing not because your content is awesome, but because your profile picture shows your supreme tastes.
I thought this was about Zelda at first
I mean, it's just 18+ Majora's Mask.
Holy crap i also posted an engagement post as well that hit the yt criteria of "meaningful post" as it was over 10 words long.
Wonderful!!! Looking forward to this, movie essay revealed~!!
A Signalis video next would be awesome!
I appreciate the use of Cult of the Lamb music, two of my favorite games
this video is just baffling to me. a channel i and many others never heard about suddenly appears in our collective feeds and uploads this bombshell of an analysis entirely for free. never EVER have i watched a video about fear and hunger which peaked my interest as much as this one. not only are your interpretations regarding the motivations of the contestants spot on, but you somehow managed to double down on this by making the entire script well-versed and fitting to the tone the game provides, dancing the fine line between factual tellings and more personal views into the different contestants personalities. im glad to have finally found another essay-type video that is more than just a simple recollection of a story. thank you for sharing your interests with us!
I cant communicate how much i love funger
It might take me days but I will be watching this whole video
Please do this world a favor and do a video on Signalis!
You such a lovely voice! Very wonderful video
Good use of silent hill 2 sound track
I hope you're actually making money off of all these ads man
In this world, is the destiny of mankind controlled by some transcendental entity or law? Is it like the hand of God hovering above? At least it is true that man has no control, even over his own will. Honestly heard this every 20-30 min
I hope they make a 3d fear and hunger
Bravo. This is by far one of the most detailed video I've ever seen regarding F&H 2. You my good sir have reawakened my interest of the lore of this game once more.
Cthulhu still owes me 5 bux but everytime I call him he's "sleeping".
BTW, if you read my comment there is an amazing game called mouth wash. DO NOT GET ANY SPOILERS. There are thousands of ideas that come together to formulate a gorgeous painting of thought with masterful writing that allow the story to thrive.
If I enjoyed it so far subscribe? Its been 2 minutes my dude XD. Let me sse the video first
"O Lord" "Give" "More Fear&Hunger video essays." All these characters are their own characters with their own reasons for being. The string of fate brought them together. It's hard to believe this game only takes place in the span of 3 days. Chills every time "__ managed to survive through all the horrors. . ."
Man, that was a gripping introdution !
Fingers crossed for a signalis deep dive! I feel like there's a surprising lack of real quality signalis analysis out there.
Such a brilliant review
I dont know why this would be horrifying. Copy yourself and now you've a buddy to hang out with. The real horror was how absurdly stupid simon was about the copying process.
+1 sub !!!!
🤣😆🖤 I love the frankness at the end, after the epic of a video. It feels very much like a palette cleanser after the dark themes.
thank you for this amazing, long video❤
