Hi there and welcome to Arkham's world of video games. I've been gaming since the 90s and I'm here to talk about games both old and new. I have a love for games of all eras but my favorites are games that tell a great story.
I'm especially a fan of games from the 6th console generation (playstation 2 era) and PC games from the late 90s and early 2000s. That being said I also enjoy indie games and even some of the bigger titles that come out these days.
While I play almost every genre my favorites are without a doubt RPGs, old school survival horror and immersive sims. I have a soft spot for Resident Evil and Final Fantasy and games like Deus Ex, Prey 2017 and System Shock.
I post long form video essays in a camp fire story style. They are usually around 1 hour each and I usually upload about once I month.
I'm also an 3d artist, animator and a wanna be unreal engine game dev. As such I mix up my work with little animations and images that I make for myself.

Back when I was making my Disco Elysium video I wrote a segment about the sound track that is some of the most beautiful and powerful music I've ever heard in a game. This is the creative work of the band Sea Power and it's a perfect fit for our wonderfully sad story.
I had originally planned on playing the music over the segment but had problems with copyright when uploading so took out. Since youtube has buried that video I decided to just go ahead, restore it to my original creative vison and share it with you as intended. I hope you enjoy.

Happy Halloween everyone. I hope you have a spooktacular weekend full of good wholesome fun. Autumn is settling in here in Japan and the leaves will soon be showing us their best colours. While Ghost stories are generally reserved for summer here in the far east I wanted to start doing a regular Halloween horror video. Hey guys today we’re talking about A Space For The Unbound, a cute slice of life adventure game made by Indonesian indie game studio Mojiken and published by Toge. After a double playthrough of Sekiro followed by Sifu I needed to slow down and enjoy something with a completely different vibe. I actually tried to review this game late last year on account of it bringing me to tears at the end. H...

Hi guys and welcome to the Sifu review that nobody asked for. I’ve had my eye on this game since it was announced as the Playstation state of play back in 2021 and it’s scary to really think about how quickly that time has passed and all the things that have changed in my life from then until now. Still for various reasons it wasn’t until early 2024 that I finally sat down with the finished gam...

Excellent retrospective. Had to sub. You covered every single part of the game in great detail. Blood Omen 2 had potential to be way better than it is. I wish at least the combat was better.

Great video! You explained the elements driving the story really nicely… for death to drive a story, that means hidden within life is there… perhaps time is really too precious to try and be eternal, instead of enjoying the moment and one day look back at the memories… melodies of life…
@@Zenziic Now is the only time we have. Why would you waste it on anger or fear or something as unchangeable as death when you've got love friendship and boobies?
I'm currently playing it again with the moguri mod and it's amazing.
I played this game cuz it was free on playstation a while back and it turned into one of my favorite games ever. The combat system is a masterpiece. I think I like it more than sekiro when you combine all the elements together. The parry in sekiro is second to non for me but when you bring in the dodges, combos, weapons and skills from Sifu I think it has Sekiro beaten but that's just my opinion. Also the training area for Sifu is miles better.
My favorite game of all time, it literally changed the way I perceive life and reality! A true masterpiece and I cried at the very end, didn't see it coming at all and thinking back now I probably should have! 💗
Awesome video dude! I'm sure it'll get many more views, very easy to listen too as well! thanks for making it!

My own solution to the military operators? Stun then hack. The perfectly logical computer system only wants a set number of operators to come from each printer. It doesn't actually care who controls them. one mine outnumber Dahl's.. his all die, so hide next to the printer amnd hac kthem as they get made. Eventually, all the military operators in the area are on team Morgan, killing typhon and leaving you alone. (I mostly only bother with full takeover in the shuttle bay, for obvious reasons.)
Cool stuff, brutha mane :)
What a huge work and great quality, it`s so easy and interesting to listen to you! I can't believe this didn't blow up yet. I`m a big fan of Larian since early access of BG3, and now playing Original Sin, this video is a blessing fr. And what an inspiring story, I can't wait for the announcement of their new project. Thank you for this amazing work!

Got on GoG so I'll get around to them soon enough.
@arkham666 enjoy the journey and the story. Syberia and The longest journey have been my step into the pc gaming world as a child. As a honorable mention for a great well done adventure point and click, puzzle driven game if you feel like checking it out is Retun to mysterious island 1 and 2. Ps : I have finished watching your video analysis, great job in not putting unecesarry spoliers for the people who are yet to play the game and really good job in putting together all the information so cohesive. I have just one question, in the 1st game isn't April supposed to be the daughter of the white dragon not sister? Maybe I got those two mixed up. Regardless, great video on great game, cheers.

Blood Omen 2 was my first PS2 game. I absolutely loved it then and still do. I completed Soul Reaver before it and I think Blood Omen 2 is a better game. I agree with your retrospective 100% though. I'm currently playing through the game again since it was just added to ps+ and I see what you mean. I still really enjoy the game. I own all the games and have completed them all except Soul Reaver 2. Blood Omen 2 is still my favorite and it is still fun to play imo. I appreciate your video and it's very well done . Thanks for your work making it.
I am no fighter and not an aggressive person and never engaged in MMA or fighting and i despise it. But besides all of that, this game is so brutal and just awsome to play, especially because the fighting style is based of southern china which is more direct and way better than northern style kung fu which is more acrobatic and makes it a bit boring. I do appreciate the game having an absolutely amazing story that never gets boring and the fights that never gets old, especially the sean fight that you mentioned. The wude part which means martial morality is my favorite ending, and for me, it teaches me that aggression is not the answer always, and you can forgive them for what they have done, the past was different and same as the present, they might have moved on or understood their mistakes and you can forgive them to and you dont have to seek for vengeance but rather find the reasoning if the action they have done and understand them rather than killing them which will make you inhuman and makes you even more evill than what you think. Excellent review, you have covered every important thing in the game, great job 👍.
@@Henry0644 thanks. Hopefully the secret level episode will see the game get more attention too. They really deserve it.
My favorite final fantasy will always be X-2 because X was so dark, depressing, and death filled that by the time we learn what Seymour did to his mother, I couldn't even be horrified at it, I was just numb to all of it by then. X-2 remembered that you have to have joy for sorrow to really hit. If all you've ever known is pain and destruction, there's no concept of how horrendous it actually is. And yes, that does sometimes mean having a hot tub splash fight with your friends to truly feel the impact of the 1,000 words concert, fight me. IX, however, has earned its place as my favorite main number in the series. Kuja is how to do the showy, overdramatic nihilist villain correctly, Sephiroth just comes off as a whiny little $&#% and I'm pretty sure even he knows it. When Garnet grabs Zidane's knife and runs off in the cutscene to go cut her hair, I legit jumped to my feet and said, "Garnet, I swear to God if you kill yourself, I will revive you just to murder you myself!!" Over twenty years later, I still remember that moment, the passion this game made me feel. I can count on one hand the number of games that I've played in my life that have brought me to tears. The highs were never higher, the lows were never lower, and Zidane has more than earned his place as the only humanoid male figure on my shelf of strong and inspiring female heros like Wonder Woman, Ariel, Lord Maxwell, X-2 Yuna, Harley Quinn, Tiny Tina, Sailor Mercury, Xena, Princess Zelda (BOTW), and yes, Tifa Lockhart. There's just something special about a woman who can punch with the force of a nuclear explosion that chooses to open an orphanage.
@@trinketsphinx3212 thank you for sharing. I'll be getting around to X-2 in 2025 I think.
@arkham666 I'm going to warn you right now, everything you've been told is true. The Charlie's Angels fight poses, the pretty pretty dress up class system, even the hot tub splash fight, it's all in there. But much like IX's bright and colorful world hides so much darkness and depravity, X-2 goes just as hard, if not harder, on the themes of societal corruption and decay found in X. And Yuna does have the "well... now what?" searching for purpose. She had been told her whole life that she was basically just food for Sin, that beyond 18 years of age and her pilgrimage, was nothing. Now that she actually has a "rest of your life" she has no idea what she should do. Everything she had ever wanted, had ever been is now gone forever, and everywhere she turns are people falling all over themselves to praise her. Everyone treats her as some Messiah-like savior, and she has no idea what to do about any of it. Much like IX, if you can laugh and enjoy the sillier moments, the deeper, darker moments are all the more impactful. There are many, many reasons why the 1,000 words cutscene is still routinely searched for and watched, even in modern day 2024.
Let's gooooooooooo underthemayo mentioned
As a Romanian, my biggest complaint about RE8 is how they handled the games setting. I was very excited to find out that Romania was the setting for the game, as its a country that doesnt get almost any coverage in games however they did almost nothing with it. Besides a few names being Romanian such as lady Dimitrescu and the mentioning of a few Romanian foods, plus a few other minor things here and there, the game didnt have anything to do with the setting. RE8 could have been set in any other European country and it wouldnt make any difference. No one in the game spoke Romanian nor was there any Romanian writing anywhere, The characters didn't even have any generic European accents. Which really disappointed me, I thought they'd handle it more like they did the RE4 Remake.
O the remaster of zero looks so much better because they still had the source code and the original pre rendered backgrounds. Where as remake had to be ripped from a GameCube disc this one they were able to go back with the originals and properly upscale them.
Zero is a strange game. The first time thru is so much harder because ya know no one brought the damn hook shot with them. Veronica soft locked you in a different way bc ya took all your guns to Nosferatu.
I’ll never understand why she didn’t team up with Richard. He survived the night, he’s bravo team, we find him next to Richard as Chris, and in the Wii shooters he wakes her up in the guardhouse and they team up, and it would make his death so much more impactful. Glad he got an extended showing in the remake and thanks for the shotgun Richard.
Jill was a strong female character back before it was cool. That’s probably the reason she’s so beloved, it was never forced she was already there.
Your volume mixing is very good and your voice is soothing very easy to fall asleep to 9.75/10
ok i admit that seymor the third is a bit bs, but you 100% can get anti zombie moves and you can also be more tactical by either killing your party member first or swapping them out. edit: also the dragon is a bit weird and can be bs when you dont make good use of a chronomancer, quick hit and delay attack edit2: yeah ok i now notice this review is based on a first-time kinda perspective now i see you call the best black mage in the game - kimari useless. and from a first playthrough id agree that its kinda bs and that the endgame is really awful all in all i would say that while these things suck for a frist run, ffx in its hd form has the most developed post-game out of any non-mmo final fantasy game i would say and surely the best combat to go with it
Love your Essay about my absolutely all-time-favorite (and for me still the best Final Fantasy Part). I actually replay it at the moment on my PS5 :-D Hearing you talking about TRANCE around part 1'26" I had a smile on my face. When I played it back then as a child, my usual warmup before a big battle - or when I thought a boss fight would come across - was to battle as much enemies to fill my Trance-Meter (sometimes I let my partymembers hit each other to fill the bars) and when I entered a boss battle one hit activated Trance :-) I really thought of me as a clever boy xD I still can't tell, why THIS game is my absolute all-time favourite - but you concluded all aspects in your video! That was awesome. And I bet, I'm gonna play FF9 a dozen times again, because of the deeply love I feel for it since my childhood 🙂 Even my fantasy-books (sadly only available in German on Amazon) are an inspired mix of Final Fantasy9, Tolkien, Raymond Feist and are beloved for the small callbacks or hints on FF9 by my readers. I loved to hide subtle hints or hommages and if you are confident with German language, I would love to recommend my #aeldionsaga to you. From a FinalFantasy9 lover to another 🙂
To me, while i never got to play FFX properly "as to say have a proper run of the game" it bringed me memories of my childhood when my stepbrother lived with me and used to play it on PS2 and while at the time i didn't knew what Final Fantasy was at all but the overall tropical scenery and combat left a everlasting impression in me after more than 20 years since i saw this game for the first time. The music still is to this day one of my top 5 favorites "though some of the remaster songs sounds either meh or some of the instruments feel out of place or pretty much kills the vibes that the OG has, but that's my opinion" the cast of characters are quite interesting and has what i consider to this day the most badass character in the series in terms of personality, that being Auron.

A friend of mine introduced me to this game series. And I was immediately drawn in. When I had finished it all I was left with sadness, this hollow feeling in my chest. I messaged my friend and told her how much I wish there were more games out there like this. It was bittersweet finally finishing it all. I’m so very grateful that my friend gifted me the games.
