I love the Silent Hill games lore. I started with Downpour which was a very important horror game for me and will always be special for me. Truly a wonderful video and I hope you keep up the great work.
Thanks man. I think we all have a special place on hearts for this quiet little resort town. If you can, get hold of this and use the hd mod to play it. It's awesome.
@@arkham666 I had the HD remaster collection on 360 but it was a broken mess from what I saw and the game was way to bright you could see through all the fog when I played. I heard the PS3 version actually got patched and fixed up.
@@Deadforge the official hd remaster is an awful disaster. The PC hd version is a collection of fan made mods all patched together with love and respect for the game and it looks absolutely beautiful.
@@Deadforge I have a boxed version but you can also download it from myabamdonware.com I don't exactly endorse piracy but abandonware is one of those grey areas. Konami has basically made it impossible to give them money for the game so you may as well get it from there.
I still have my old ps2 and a copy of this somewhere. Might be time to find it and replay this. It's been like 10 years, so I've forgotten a lot. I think my favourite game in the series is 3, but I honestly enjoyed all of them, even 4.😆
Wonderful, especially if you've got that making of documentary that shipped with the original version. I played them back to back when I was making this video and my Alessa video. Surprisingly one was my favorite in the end.
Also you should check out Omori if you haven't already. It's basically a deep dive into depression and mental illness amongst young people, handled very well. Rpg maker graphics, but there's some impressive artwork that kinda makes up for that. By the way, great video 👍👏
Interesting deep dive, didn't realise it was copy/competitive product of/to Resident Evil but makes a lot of sense. Good thing that the game found its own place in the genre, it does tackle interesting topic of our internal battle between sacrifice and our own well being. Those disturbing yet somehow sexy nurses also help :D
It's pretty cool how a group of office misfits who were basically being set up to fail were able to create an opportunity to really shine and build something that's still beloved by fans even today.
Something just dawned on me about the "Leave" ending that has darker repercussions. What's going to happen when Laura finds Mary in the backseat of James' car?
Some might call this head cannon but I've never bought into the idea that Mary is in the back seat of the car or that she only died days before the game started. Personally I think James has spent a long time (months at least) wrestling with his conscience and creating his false narrative. For him to just kill her, forget it and then want Silent Hill to punish him immediately after doesn't make sense to me. Also a corpse of even just a couple of days decomposition would smell horrific. I know Masahiro claims that she's in the back seat and if that's what you think then that's cool, but there's nothing in the game that says so and it stretches beyond my suspension of disbelief. So I don't believe it's so.
@@arkham666 Thanks for responding, and great video. I never really thought she was there to be honest, but my comment was mostly a joke about that theory.
@@_GeneralMechanics_ oh for sure I see the funny side lol. Masahiro's tweet is pretty compelling so I don't mind my view just being head cannon. Thanks for the comment anyway, glad you enjoyed the content.
I want the guide books sadly those aren't made anymore it's great to see worlds in books now as a fan of the horror stories Silent Hill 2 gets high positive ratings one of the best next to Silent three which I think continues from the second one just guessing so that town itself is a dream you could say this on going world of horror it never stops there are two things you might have noticed some animal not seen but heard following James from deep in woods oh and this is more strange to know about the fact James having the body of Mary in the trunk of his car I know weird we found out this town will grant power to others if I was James would I have made the same choices that he did ?
The reason Silent Hill is the way it is, is explained in Silent Hill 1 and 3. It's the nightmare of a child who was burnt alive slowly bleeding into the real world. (Its more complex than that but that's the very basic story.) While Masahiro Ito has said in numerous tweets that Mary is in the back of the car, he's also said this fact was removed from the game and only left implied. People who follow this idea think that James went to Silent Hill to kill himself after murdering Mary and spontaneously forgot all about it in the bathroom. I have never believed that. My personal take is that James spent months lying to himself about Mary and that's why his unconciouse mind is screaming at him to remember. It's this voice that gives shape to things in the city. It doesn't make sense for him to suddenly forget and immediately set out on a quest to remember it all again. Arguably that's just my head canon now but the story was left vague and open for this reason so I consider my take as valid as anyone's.
@@arkham666 yes but don't forget the cults burned her if that didn't happen well then the town would not be surrounded by that darkness so both are responsible for a lot of changes in Silent Hill . just like if it wasn't for criminals in Gotham no Batman to fight them a chain of events are the reason Bruce Wayne decides to go fight against criminals in the city .
