I found using the genuine quest 3 fibre optic cable with usb c to usb c to have a better battery life than your results. I also found better performance from the quest cable. I now only run oculus mode and avoid steam and open xr like you have shown you use in your other videos.

I have never used the Meta cable, the price put me off, but I will take another look at it if it ever goes on sale. Be interesting to see if it can increase performance and battery life, although for battery life, as I showed, it's probably more than I will ever need.
I do run openxr when needed, rain sessions for example, but I didn't use it for these tests as I didn't want any other factors influencing the results. To be honest, unless there is a clear reason why I should not use openXR, I will use it.
That being said, I don't have it installed (yet) for steam use.

Good video though, I think after 2/3 hours that’s a sweet spot for me to then stop in vr lol

Yeah, I am tempted to do a real long session, and use passthrough for going to the toilet (if you se what I mean), but I am not sure I can do much longer than 2 hours in VR, but it would be fun to try :)

Interesting experience, my personal experience is that as the battery charge decreases, the discharge speed also increases. Connected by cable via USB and with an initial charge on the Q3 at 100% after about 2 hours and 45' I have approximately 60% of the battery charge. This is my usual average for training sessions, followed by online racing.
Thank you very much for your videos, they are very useful and well done.
One question, what is your opinion on the use of 120, 90, 80 and 72 FPS. Do you notice big differences between these modes?

Thank you very much for the feedback. I agree, as the battery decreases, the speed at which it discharges will probably increase. I will have to try a long test, something like three hours, and see what that reading is just to find out HOW much the discharge speed increases.
2 Hours and 45 minutes is awesome. Is that one race or a series of races in one session?
For the refresh rate, I tend to stick with 90hz, as I find that's comfortable to use and doesn't stress my system, or iRacing. But, if I am on a heavy grid, with loads of cars, or if there is any rain, I will drop to 72Hz.
80Hz is a bit of an oddity, and I rarely use it. 120Hz is butter smooth, and I do like it, but it's a big performance killer, so will probably have to wait until I get a better system.

@@OlderGamersPerspective The sessions I was referring to are around 1 hour of training followed by 2 races of 30 minutes with a few minutes break between them but always with Q3 on. I only use 90hz because I have an RTX 3070 Ti and I want to avoid (as much as possible) frame drops. I've only rarely done sessions in the rain and that's why I've avoided using 72Hz but I'd like to know if you feel any lack of response in iracing. The times I've tried it, I've always had the feeling that there was an increased slowness in the simulator's "feeling", I don't know if I understand myself.

@@mariopires5022 It's a tricky one, I think I can convince myself that 72Hz is a slower response, but then sometimes I enter a sim, thinking I am on 90Hz, don't really notice any difference, and THEN I notice the FPS and realise I am on 72Hz. So I think it is one of those things that might just be in my head. I think if you can use 90Hz, then you probably should as it's probably going to be kinder to your eyes in those long sessions, but when it comes to rain, you probably are driving slower anyway, so 72Hz will be fine.

Do you not find ssr high causes issues with FPS in lobbies?

In Lobbies? You mean while you are looking at the settings and stuff? Or somewhere else?

@@OlderGamersPerspective it’s the first version of that strap so i roughly get 4-5h total which is more than plenty for me. The newer ones have even bigger battery. Plus i like the weight distribution…

@@ZenMotionSim Yeah, that should be more than enough. I think the only time I got close to exhausting external battery and internal was during a mega long session of Pavlov, but I haven't played that in a long while. Maybe when I play a session of Skyrim VR.

USB-C to USB-A is much worse. An 1h session at 90hz for me puts the battery below 70%.

    • @OlderGamersPerspective
      @OlderGamersPerspective  3 місяці тому

Really? That is interesting. Have you tried other USB ports? Maybe that one is already being used by the others on that hub, which might reduce the energy output that's available to devices? Just a guess. But thank you for the info.

    • @PetrisonRocha

@@OlderGamersPerspective I did. Google says energy output is just (much) higher on USB-C... and my motherboard has no USB-C at all, of course.

@@Mumwaldee even then, they would be plugged into one of the motherboard outputs. If this output is USB-A, this would cap the hub's power. Actually, it would be worse, because there would be more electric resistance.
This is why native USB-C outputs in GPUs like in Nvidia's RTX 2000 series are so missed by VR enthusiasts.
