A day in the life of a charter pilot - icy start to the day!
A day out on a charter in our Cessna Grand Caravan. The C208B is slightly longer than the standard C208, but still powered by the Pratt and Whitney PT6 turboprop.
We utilise the Caravan on Part 135 operations, and in this particular case the flight is one of our regular clinic flights.
We also conduct flight training in the Cessna Caravan series, both on wheels and floats!

Muddy start to the day for the Beaver!
Переглядів 74614 днів тому
A muddy start to the day for a post maintenance flight on our DeHavilland Beaver. This DHC-2 is a 1957 model, and is currently on standard tyres. Previously, this aircraft has been on straight floats, amphibious floats, and tundra tyres. Powered by the Pratt and Whitney R985 radial engine, we use the Beaver for scenic flights and bush flying training.
Instrument School: Basics - Navaids for IFR flying
Переглядів 2,1 тис.Місяць тому
A video on the basics of the IFR equipment fitted to our aircraft, including the receiver units (such as the GPS / GNSS unit, VOR and ADF), the types of indicators and the forms of integrity monitoring for the navaids during IFR flight. The units shown in this video are the Garmin GTN650 GPS, and various VHF localisers. I aim to make more videos for student general interest prior to starting th...
I bought a Beaver! Or part thereof.
Переглядів 2,2 тис.Місяць тому
After years of flying the DeHavilland Beaver, I’ve finally bought my own as a project! This DHC-2 is a 1964 model and hasn’t flown since the early 2000’s. It has the Advanced Wing Technology wings, which allow the MTOW to be increased to 6050 pounds. It’s going to take a lot of work to rebuild / restore, and will be a future project, so don’t expect too many restoration updates for a while! Lik...
Cub rebuild Part 1 - Engine removal
Переглядів 2652 місяці тому
The first part in the rebuild process of my 1950 PA18 Super Cub! Originally built as a military L21A, this Cub was modified to PA18-150 status by STC at some point in its life prior to my purchase of it. It was rolled over a couple of years ago, and I’m just getting around to the repairs now. It will be given a new fuselage frame and an overhauled engine.
Caravan school: engine start
Переглядів 2,2 тис.2 місяці тому
I’ve made this series of videos to watch in conjunction with our Cessna Caravan training course. In this video, we go through the C208 engine start procedure on its Pratt and Whitney PT6. This particular aircraft is a C208B Grand Caravan, fitted with the PT6A-114A variant of PT6. We conduct the flight review on type, along with the initial Gas Turbine Engine endorsement.
Scout panel upgrade - Part 2 of 2, panel completed!
Переглядів 3252 місяці тому
The completed instrument panel upgrade in my American Champion 8GCBC Scout! I use the Scout for tailwheel training and off airport flying, along with short takeoff and landing (STOL) type instruction. In this series, we’ve retrofitted it with the Garmin GI275 PFD and the GNX375 GPS, which is also an ADSB in and out transponder. With this new gear, the Scout now has TCAS and terrain alerting!
Impromptu Scout panel upgrade! Part 1 of 2
Переглядів 3153 місяці тому
An ADSB upgrade and GPS addition to my 8GCBC Scout. The GPS being fitted is a GNX375 and is also an ADSB in/out transponder, which can display traffic on the screen and give alerts as a TCAS. I use the American Champion Scout for tailwheel training, and like the idea of having traffic for extra awareness in the busy circuit area we have here. In addition, it will also allow the aircraft to oper...
We have a boat! - Amphib Caravan walk-around
Переглядів 8463 місяці тому
A walk-around video of our amphibious float Caravan. This C208 was our first Cessna Caravan, fitted with Wipline 8000 amphib floats. The short body Caravan has the same model engine as our C208B Grand Caravan, the Pratt and Whitney PT6 (specifically, the PT6A-114A). The seaplane version of the Caravan sits a lot taller than the landplane version, as shown when parked next to one of our Chieftains!
First flight of a 182 with a G3X-Touch!
Переглядів 4363 місяці тому
In this video, I test fly a 1978 Cessna 182Q fitted with a Garmin G3X Touch glass cockpit! The Q model is my favourite of the C182 series, fitted with the Continental O-470 engine. This aircraft has been fitted with the Garmin G3X touch, along with a GTN750 touchscreen navigator, two G5 PFD’s, and an ADSB in and out transponder (showing traffic on the screen). In addition, all of the above is c...

You have 8.50-10’s on there that are 25.5 in. Diameter. In the states we use the 29x11.0-10’s (field approval) that are the 29 inch diameter you spoke of. Much better look
🎉very poor presentation.should prepare better. Not very useful info. Sorry for my observations.
😂😂😂😂 chin up champ.
Other youtubers would have you believe it takes only seconds to start up and fly.
Maybe I’m just slow!
@@aeroplanetoby Maybe you're just safe?
Never boring if there are aircraft involved!
Thanks mate!
Glad to see another video!
I’ve been a bit slow on them lately I know!
I used to go up in these when i was a kid when they were used for super spreading
The other one I have is a former super spreader before it turned into a seaplane actually.
@@aeroplanetoby I intend to buy one of these planes one day and I will keep you in ind for training
Thank you
No probs!

Bit higher than 200 mate 😂
Doing my class rating in a couple weeks, this is really helpful. Thanks Mate!
Hope it went well mate!
@@aeroplanetoby GTE and C208 endorsed now. Thanks for your help!
I love the whole experience...thank you!!!!😊
Absolutely beautiful. Never been on top in a J-3 but in other aircraft, yes. I’m afraid I’d be a bit nervous without a turn and bank in the panel even with a solid ceiling under me. I do love this kind of flying. Best was on top under a full moon. Prettiest flying ever but I was also on an IFR flight plan.
I was a Y2K PILOT...ACCORDING TO Cleveland center I was the only aircraft flying this Side of the MISSISSIPPI...Was a VFR mission...fantastic fireworks!!!
If anyone have short notes on c208B please contact me
What’s the control harmony like on the Beaver?
Great video, super easy to understand. There's hardly any material on youtube about avionics so this was great
That's one of them new fangled starters.
How about build quality, fit and finish, interior noise, breakdown history, etc
I'm flying another almost new one the week after next, so I'll try and update on that! The build quality is awesome, and the interior noise is about the same as the Caravan. This particular one is so new that it's probably not fair to compare it's breakdown history yet!
I liked the way you teach. Congrats!!! Nice is to put a camera in fronto of the cockpit for us to be able to see everything also. Thank you
Thanks mate, I appreciate that! It's been a while since the last Caravan video, I'll try and make some more soon.
Nicely done! I trained in the Caravan at Flight Safety in the States, but unfortunately have not had the opportunity to actually fly the aircraft.
Thanks! You'll love it when you get the chance to fly the actual aircraft, they're a great machine!
For some reason I find myself fascinated with the Caravan, thank you so much for the walkaround!
Thanks mate!
We have one of these beauties that operates from our local regional airport. Love watching it fly!
They sound awesome at takeoff power don't they!
Thanks Toby !!!!!!!!!!
You're welcome!
Got to be happy when your working on a beaver :-)
Always!
great video, very nice way of explaining it all
Thanks!
The iconic de Havilland Beaver.
Gotta love your enthusiasm!! Hope you have very, very deep pockets!! $$$$$$$$$$😱
No, just plenty of bad ideas!
@@aeroplanetoby 😂❤️...🫤
I'm a former bush pilot and have almost 300hrs in a Beaver on floats and skis. An amazing aircraft!!
Still my favourite of all time!
Hope you have good luck with the restoration very interesting..
Thanks mate!
"It has a seat which is um ... very handy for sitting on," - best line in the video. Had me laughing so much! 🤣
Haha, I'm glad to be of service!
Lovely video when do you put off the fuel boost off after flight?
Thanks! After shutdown, we wait until the fuel low pressure light illuminates (alternating with AUX FUEL PUMP ON), and then turn it off just before turning the battery master switch off.
That's a project! Maybe a candidate for the RED V12 conversion? I don't think they've got their paper in order yet; but looks like you're going to be a while before you get to teh engine anyway.
Haha a project and a half! I think I'll be a long way off needing an engine, but that V12 conversion does look quite interesting!
cool, i love the beaver! good luck with it
Thanks mate! I love them too.
Marvellous aircraft the laminar flow wing lets it just slide through the air. It's just a shame that it wasn't fitted with 200hp engines as standard.
Yep! 200hp per side would make a great aircraft even better.
congrats! can wait to see what you do with her!
Thanks mate!
Can you get a spare engine and prop from that Harbour Air / MagniX electric Beaver conversion project in Vancouver? How about the one they fished out of Coal Harbour last week ?
There’s actually two companies who still overhaul / exchange them, which is very handy!
Great video. Very thorough and informative. I'll hopefully get to fly the Caravan one day!
Thanks for the feedback! They are a great aeroplane that’s for sure!
Beautiful upgrade. I am actually updating my original '182 Q panel in the coming months, waiting to get my order in right now! This is exactly what I have planned but I just saw another option that has me thinking. Instead of the 750, drop it to a 650 and put the money in another G3X panel on the right since the only thing you need the navigator for is to load approaches. What are your thoughts on that scenario having flown this one?
It’s a lovely machine! Great stuff, the Q model is the pick of the bunch in my opinion! The option of the two G3X’s would certainly make it a very impressive panel, and a more “symmetrical” layout with one on each side?
I usually fly the Garret conversion. However, every time it goes for maintenance I fly the PT6. Your video is always my first port of call when Ihere the plane is gone for maintenance and I need to remember how to start it 😂
Haha I’m glad to hear the video helps! What do you use the Garret machine for? Skydiving ops? That extra power would be great!
Why does one side look different
The weather radar pod is only in the right hand side!
I've never flown in a Caravan but I got the chance to sit in #1 back in 2006. #1 word AMAZING 👏 🙌 😍 😊😊😊😊
They’re great aren’t they!
What is the purpose of closing both fuel tanks? Wouldn't closing one prevent cross feeding
In theory yes, but they all seem to still trickle across if both aren’t turned off!
"Engine out!" Things you like to hear during a rebuild, but not in the air.
Haha, that’s a very fair point actually.
Is that a Lycoming O-320 or an O-235? Watched it to the end. 150 horsepower makes it an O-320.
Great vid, thanks
Thanks mate!
Must be the 'stache! 🥸
Haha, makes all the difference!
Great job and I always wanted to fly the Cessna 208 but I’d rather fly the Bellanca Scout
I love both types! Thanks mate!
This is the most informative video I've seen yet on the Caravan. Education, with a side of snark: gotta love it.
Thanks mate! Haha, gotta love a bit of snark.
nice video! but I still have some comfusions about start with prop level in feather position, what are the benefits of doing so?
Thanks! Less air and noise for another minute or so over starting with it in fine. So it’s reaching fine pitch about as we’re ready to taxi. Only a small advantage, and I know many people start them in fine!
Poor audio quality of speaker's voice.
POH calls for prop lever to fine before start.
Great video! Thank you. One question, why is the battery so expensive?
Thanks! I have no idea. However, have just replaced it and it was a touch over $5k AUD this time!
