    I love sedums! They are so tough that they usually survive my tender care ;) Some gardeners Chelsea chop their sedum plants if they tend to flop with weighty blooms. Seems like that would be perfect time to root cuttings. It would give them plenty of time to establish roots before frost as well. Looking forward to seeing more division tutorials.

    Thank you. I have a wonderful specimen of this exact Coreopsis in my garden as well. My Mom originally planted many years ago. Maybe three sizes larger than what you showed in this video. This year is the first year I’ve cut it back after blooming. It’s still looking healthy and hoping it reblooms one more time. It’s very special to me, especially knowing that my Mom had planted it. Coreopsis was one of her favorites. Maybe next year I’ll get brave and divide some of it so I can spread some to other areas. Thanks again! I appreciate all your great information.

      Hi Beth. I love that you have this plant in your yard and love even more that your Mom planted it there for you. 💗 I think the beauty of gardening is having plants in our yard that have meaning to us. In fact, my Zagreb coreopsis came from my mother-in-law's yard and I'm so happy that I have a piece of it here with me. If you want, you could always use a shovel (large one or hand shovel) and just take some small pieces of it from the side of the plant to transplant and experiment with that. That way you, you're not digging out the whole plant. Just be sure to keep giving the transplant plenty of water. 🥰🌸

    Thank you so much for this peek into your nursery. I love this as much as I appreciate your propagation and care videos. You’re always generous with your knowledge; it’s clear you’re also generous with your garden space. My parents started their business the same way - it allows for a very different and wonderful customers interaction. I’ll be honest, trimming those perennials early in the season is always so hard - they look so good when it’s time to trim and I always think, “someone’s going to come in tomorrow and overlook this because it’s been hacked.” Now, I trim half the plants one week and the other half in about two weeks - that way there are always plants that look good. The magic words with customers are often “attracts hummingbirds” and “deer resistant.” Those qualifiers can be irresistible 😊. People’s definition of “native” varies greatly from the purists who want native within a certain number of miles - to the generalists who are okay with just native to North America. It’s good that you are honest with your knowledge about natives, and I like that there’s no judgment coming from you. I’ve talked to people who are against “nativars” which are cultivars of native plants - that’s very specific and more restrictive than I want for my garden. Thank you so much for sharing all this info. ❤️

    • @budgetgardeningvita
      @budgetgardeningvita День тому

      Hi there! I think the Ajuga would be ok as a groundcover really around any plant. Since it's so easy to dig up and remove, if you found it to be problematic, you could always remove it from the immediate base of your plant(s) each year just to keep the Ajuga in check. However, I haven't had to do that with it being around my rhododendrons and the rhodies seem to be just fine. 🥰🌺

      YES I’ve tried that and it’s been wrong 😩 The app told me I had baby onions (actually burgundy and gold day lillies), that I had weeds (actually clematis), that I had an exotic rose bush (actually wild blackberries) 🤣 Then there was this lovely plant with leaves that close at night. My lawn guys yanked it up immediately to my surprise with asking me first (baby mimosas which are prolific here). 🤷🏽‍♀️ We’ve owned the house only 19 months tho - so Honestly I’m kinda having fun NOT pulling up anything until I’ve seen what it grows up to be. 😊 THANKS, Vida 🌸🫶🏽

    And recommendations for keeping the deer from eating down the Hosta and black eyed Susan?

      Hi Kathie! I have used Irish Spring soap shavings and sprinkled them around plants that deer eat. I shave the soap using a carrot grater. Good luck!🫰😊

    Thank you! I planted two new good size Bleeding Hearts this year. Only one little bloom but that’s ok. Hopefully next year I’ll get more blooms. They seem fairly mature so maybe they had already bloomed before I got them. I’ll cut them back when they look like they are ready. Only had one once before many years ago at a different property. This is great information for me. Much Appreciated!😊

      Thank you, Beth! It's such a beautiful plant and you'll really enjoy them in years to come. I plan on dividing some of mine this Fall and some others next Spring as they have gotten huge (which is a good problem to have lol). Happy gardening, friend! 😊🌼

    I have been on a mission to pull out any magenta garden phlox...I have a lot of white and I will keep that. I have been deadheading the daylillies and watering a few geraniums and impatients that have been droopy...we need rain..😊

      Hi Becky! I have never tried. I'll have to see if mine have created seeds and if so I can definitely make a video on the process. 🌺😊

      Yes! I have a question I have bout alot of seeds to WS this year. But I'm getting a little antsy wanting to start some now, I live in zone 8a first frost is usually the end of Oct. Is it a good idea to start some now in ground? Thanks

    I actually do have a bunch of annuals that I started that need to go into the ground. The last 2 weeks have been so hot and humid and I had my 2 little grandsons, visiting for a week, so I didn't get any gardening done! Today is the day to tackle weeds and get those plants in the ground. I was feeling so guilty that I hadn't planted them yet but knowing that you have some too makes me feel a little better! :-)

      Hi Cynthia! You must have had such a wonderful time with both your grandsons visiting. 💗 Our humidity had been high for weeks but finally today it's not as humid. Happy gardening, friend! 🌺

    I have the seeds in my refrigerator for months. I think I'm going to plant them late fall straight in the soil outside.

      @budgetgardeningvita 4 дні тому

      Hi Kathy! Great idea. I'll be following your lead and will be doing the same with certain seeds like Lupine. The seeds will get the natural cold stratification period that they need during the winter and should then germinate next Spring. The big thing to keep in mind is that the seeds are out of our control once we put them outside. Certain things can affect seeds from not germinating, such as animals disturbing/eating the seeds, too much moisture, etc. But it's worth a try! Happy gardening, friend. 😊🌺

    I bought 3 10” geraniums this season & they are very pretty in my lamp post garden, but I could’ve used 2 more so I’m going to try to take cuttings & add to my existing plants. It’s kinda cool that I can get more plants from ones I already have! Fingers crossed the original 3 over winter safely. Looking forward to seeing your video on how to propagate from geranium leaves! My only question is, if I don’t need to pot up the bare root plants until 8 weeks before last frost, February seems a month early for Memorial Day transfer to the garden. I’m in zone 4-ish which seems like I’d need to pot up earlier than someone in zone 5… I suppose it wouldn’t hurt them to be woken up 12 weeks before planting, but that is extra time having to baby them over the winter. We’ll see, I guess. Mom used to over winter her geraniums so I know it can be done, I just don’t remember the timing of it all. 🤷‍♀️

      Hi there! Please check out my How To Take Geranium Cuttings video (ua-cam.com/video/Umf6jZEQyr8/v-deo.html) as well as an update video (ua-cam.com/video/H_wjaYUO1Dw/v-deo.html). I hope you're successful with both your cuttings as well as with overwintering your plants. 😊 I potted mine up on the earlier side just because I wanted to make a video of the process and get that instruction out there for everyone. However, I suggest potting them later than February because you're right - why baby them for that long if you really don't need to? As long as you pot them up 8 weeks before you average last frost date, you'll be fine. 🌺
