  • In this gardening vlog, I go over some things that didn't work in my garden for 2024 and some of my gardening goals and plans for 2025. This garden recap and year in review is to hopefully inspire you to continue working out in your gardens and to make plans on how you can change up your garden space for next year.
    Some of my big goals for the 2025 garden season include propagating more plants (from cuttings, divisions and seed), lawn maintenance and care, being more selective with what I winter sow, moving / transplanting some established trees and shrubs, selling a larger variety of plants for my backyard plant nursery, continuing with my "one flower bed at a time" goal and working on established flower beds.

    Many of you have asked me which hand rake I'm using in this video. I found and tagged a few that are very similar to mine. You can find them in the Description.

    You inspired me to get outside. Thank you. I very much enjoy the “talk while you work” format. If there’s one thing I know it’s gardeners love to talk gardening. I’m a lone wolf. None of my friends or family enjoy gardening so my husband gets to hear all about it. 😂

      I'm so glad that my video inspired you to get outside! This morning it's chilly again in New Hampshire but I'm motived to tackle my side walkway bed this afternoon. 💪🏼 Anything that we can do in the garden this time of year is a bonus! You are so right in that gardeners love to talk gardening. 😅 Thank goodness for gardening videos, blogs, vlogs, etc. 💞

    My fall cleanup is done, but I try to get out at least 4-5 times a week to do my “rounds” and check on things, as well as check the plants & cuttings that are over wintering in the potting shed. My other gardening associated jobs included doing maintenance on my tools. Did all the hand tools, pruners & loppers first, cleaning, rust removal, sharpening & oiling, then did the same thing with the long handled implements, plus sanding & oiling the wooden handles. So satisfying!

      Thank you for sharing your gardening tasks as it gives me as well as others ideas of things we can be doing in and around our gardens this winter. 😊 I plan to cleanup and sharpen my tools at some point during the next few months. It's such an important task to be done and the winter is a great time to do it. 💪🏼🌸

    I have a feeling some of my plants are gonna die outside in the winter. Being this is my 1st year really planting and learning about perennials, they've all become so special to me, my babies, lol, so I'll be sad. But like you said, it's not the end of the world and I can buy more next spring. This past season was very much therapy for me. Lost my mom to dementia the night before Easter so I immersed myself into spending all my time outside. I did like you said, tackling one thing, one section at a time. Out of all the video channels I watch, I feel like we're friends as well because the way you explain everything, and how personable you are it's like hanging with a gardening buddy! It means a lot that you actually interact with your followers. I'm learning so much from ya! ❤

      @budgetgardeningvita  Місяць тому +1

      Hi Lisa! I hear you about our plants being our babies. After all, we care and nurture for them (and in some cases talk to them lol). I don't blame you for being sad if you lose a plant or two after the winter. But yes - plants can (usually) be replaced if that happens.
      My mom also passed away from dementia in August of '23. Hugs to you, my friend. 💞
      I hope my videos give you hope and joy while teaching you new things. I love our gardening community and how we can all relate to something that we feel so passionately about. 🙏🏼

What other hobby keeps us busy year-round? I love making videos in the winter just to give updates on what I'm doing in hopes of inspiring others as well. 🥰🌹

    It would be nice to have everything ready to go in spring. I’m the other way though because I bundle many roses and others with straw and leaves. The La Niña jet stream has returned and we had a very long warm fall, but wow, it’s turned really cold and yet this weekend will be 40F. Right now we have a cold front that will come with negative windchill temps. It’s much colder than the last two years, but we are swinging back to 40 so not sure if we will have a normal cold winter.
    I do like to leave petunias and alyssum in place as they tend to reseed. It’s debatable this year and I was just getting use to some overwintering.
    Lol, I was in the process of rebuilding the leanto greenhouse and got the floor dug down before it froze, but we had to shop for a replacement truck so I don’t have supplies to finish heat sink yet. Not sure if it will get done this year, probably just before I need it next spring. The top of soil is froze here as I barely got bulbs dug in last Thursday.
    I’m so growing more bright impatiens for under the shade tree as they were so carefree and cheery.
    Collecting seeds of new to me flowers can be tricky. Gazania was one that I couldn’t figure out and I think it’s because they are just fluff balls that blew away before I could see them. I did manage to get one.😊. The other was Gomphrena and I should check to see if they germinate as they were difficult to know when ripe.
    You do such a neat job of cleaning up! You would roll your eyes here😂.

    • @budgetgardeningvita
      @budgetgardeningvita  Місяць тому +1

      We have some snow coming in tonight. UGH! I know it's all part of living in a cold area but still... It's all good. There are other tasks that can be done during the winter.
      I love that you'll be growing lots of impatiens. I plan to grow a lot from seed this winter as I had a lot of luck with them last year.
      I agree with you that collecting seeds from Gazania (and other new to us plants) can be tricky.
      This will be my first year growing Gomphrena from seeds that I collected. It's definitely worth doing a trial run first. Maybe I'll put some in soil and see if they germinate.
      Normally I don't worry too much about Fall cleanup but knowing that my Spring will be crazy busy I'm motivated to tackle a few cleanup jobs right now. Whatever doesn't get done now can get done in the Spring. 💞😊

      Oh boy! Honestly I winter sow just about every perennial seed that I collect. Lol. But some of my favorites that have easily sprouted for me include Balloon Flower, Echinacea / Coneflower, Dianthus, Lupine, Foxglove, Poppies, Bee Balm, Betony, Anise Hyssop, English Daisy, and Baptisia / False Indigo. Last year was my first time growing daylilies and iris from seed and both germinated as well which was very cool!
      I have never tried winter sowing vegetable or annual flower seeds. I am planning to do those this year.
      How about you? What are some of your favorite seeds to winter sow?

      Do you have any perennial mums in your garden from previous years? Usually, spring or early summer are the best times to take cuttings from the mums. I will definitely make a video showing the process next spring.
      Good for you on continuing to clean garden beds up and collect seeds! Did you get a lot of snow and do you think it will melt or stick around? ❄️

      @budgetgardeningvita I have 3 perennial mums now and just ordered 5 more from burpee last night. We have about 8" of snow but I hope it doesn't stick around. I do have an unheated greenhouse that I'm trying to start some perennial flowers seeds in before we can winter sow. Your welcome I love your channel and thought that some of the viewers on Steph's channel would like yours too.
