if you'd like some black metal where there's a LOT to analyze, i recommend Deathspell Omega - Paracletus (pretty much any song from the album, but probably Wings of Predation) another would be pretty much any song from the band Abigor, they play a very technical, dynamic take on the genre

re: Reliqa, Terminal was the first single and the most radio-friendly, it got a big head start on plays. I agree it's the weakest individual song but I appreciate it for what it is.

You gotta check out the band AVRALIZED. The song Lotus or Upside down I think you would really really dig

@coreyclip1 I really enjoy your reactions! I’m huge fan of VOLA myself and can’t wait to watch them live on the 1st of November in Aarhus, Denmark, the day the new record drops. A humble recommendation for you would be another Danish band called “Mew” as they have some of the same elements as VOLA. I know for a fact that VOLA draws inspiration from Mew which you can also hear. It’s not heavy, but very dreamy and at times a bit weird. For a start, I would recommend their album “Frengers”. Keep up the good work!

I enjoyed the song in general. The melody on the chorus is great, but I have to say, the verse melody kinda sounds like Stone Leader Falling Down, not to mention this formula they have for choruses is kinda getting stale. They did it in Stray the Skies, and Inside Your Fur, where they start with a big sounding chord and a melody in the background, wait a little and come with the vocals.

I had almost the same experience with this album, I heard a lot of things I appreciate but nothing that I really love... I agree with your observations about the chord progressions. Yeah, I simply do not find a real emotional connection with this one. However, even I if I've already recommended it to you I hope you'll react to Makari's Wave Machine by the end of the year, it's still one of my favourite records of 2024!

I am glad you actually stops to admire the beauty and music of Skyrim...That's some of the most imortant things that makes Skyrim great...

This is my most anticipated album for 2024! Vola just doesn't miss man they are so original, unique and different just a fantastic band. If I were to rank all the singles from favourite to least favourite even though they are all still bangers I would say I Don't Know How We Got Here, Cannibal, Paper Wolf then Break My Lying Tongue

1:19 - you might want to destroy weapons at the magic table, near the wizard in Jarl's palace. Once you learn the enchantment, you can put it on another weapon. You'll need a filled soul gem for this and it's better to use the big ones. They are expensive, but the effect lasts much longer. 🙂

BTBAM elitist fanboy here. I think context of listening experience, and where one is coming from in terms of musical background and life experience are very important components to one's appreciation for this album and band. Your opinion is not wrong, but you are listening to this for the first time from a MUCH different place than I was when I first listened to it.

Tough but fair. I do love this album and this band…but it’s also oddly refreshing watching someone just flat out hate on it lol. BTBAM are legends and while most of their fans are generally pretty chill people…there’s also an annoying amount of elitism. Lots of Rick and Morty fanboy vibes. I don’t have enough fingers and toes to count the number of times I’ve heard some version of: “No, you’re just not SMART enough to UNDERSTAND their COMPLEXITY and GENIUS.” Even though I’m a huge fan of theirs, hearing someone who’s had proper musical training just shit on it for 15 min is honestly hilarious to me and reading some of the salty comments is even funnier. In my mind I think Coma Ecliptic would be more up your alley! it’s closer to rock opera and much, much more cohesive. However, thats only in relation to their other works…so, take that with a grain of salt lol. Cheers!

I personally love this album, it's one of my favourites. The vocal harmonies are right up my alley, the riffs are tasteful and drumming is great, plus lots of modulation. Also, Origin of Escape isn't really in 6/8, it's just triplets, then some displaced cymbal work to fit them in groups of 4 in other sections of the track.

One of the best albums of all time imo. Learning this beast on guitar made me appreciate it so much more.. also it reminds me of Dream Theater gone metalcore so I fuck with it. But I know a lot of people who can’t get into BTBAM so they’re not for everyone.

Agree to disagree, but maybe you shouldn't review stuff that just isn't for you. And maybe you shouldn't skip through an album that is intended to be listened to as one big long piece, and expect to like it or think it's cohesive. What a silly way to listen to an album. Peace broski.

Gutter Moon and Emily have a heavy influence from the band Mew. The albums Frengers, And the Glass Handed Kites, and No More Stories are great listens!

I bought this album randomly in like 2011 or 2012, somewhere around that time. I think I'd heard of it but I'd never heard it, and I saw it in a music store for cheap so I picked it up. I didn't really listen to it much, I couldn't get into it. I listened a bit more in the past couple years or so and the same thing, I just wasn't into it. Hearing snippets of it now, I thought they were more Protest The Hero (my favourite band), but I'm getting more Arsonists Get All The Girls (also a good band), but AGATG are more fun. I'm with you, I don't like this.

Honestly wonder if you would like Coma Ecliptic more, probably the least heavy album and more cohesive songwriting since its like a rock opera. Would probably get a kick out of The Ectopic Stroll especially if you like their wackier side.

And anything after the parallax ep is kinda ass from these guys, the great misdirect and prior are perfect albums And very disappointed in this review.
