Transitioning From an Overhanging to Vertical Climbing Wall
When bouldering or climbing indoors or outdoors, you will inevitably come across a situation where you will need to transition from a horizontal roof of steep overhang onto a more vertical headwall. This is difficult, unless you practice these simple strategies to help make it easier.
In this video, Coach Dave breaks down his three best tips for getting from an overhang to a vertical wall when climbing.

    This was great! I did a no-hands climb (with ropes) about a month ago visiting Movement Santa Clara, it was fun! One additional challenge: can you do the movements without relying on momentum? Turns it into a much more balance/strength thing. Please let me know if you have any tips on that, I'm trying to get better at super-static climbing

    • @climbhangout
      @climbhangout 3 місяці тому

      Thanks for your comment and question Tristan. This particular challenge was very difficult to finish without momentum because the other holds could easily get in the way. The best tip I've come across for no hand climbing/balance is to extend your lower foot/toes as far as possible in order to raise your hips higher. This will put your knee in a better position (angle) to make the stand up easier. I hope that helps. Cheers! - Dave

      This challenge was really hard. We only had a couple of climbers in the whole gym complete it. Matthew here really did a great job of keeping his body in balance and using momentum well.

    Theres this awesome steep overhanging 11a(fairly accurate grade id say) at my gym and I am getting super burnt hauling up and out of the roof, i tried to get some toes in, but also felt like I was spending too much time finding feet. Im looking forward to going back and trying these techniques.
