I remember the iBook. Man what a soldier! I had a friend back in 2004 who went through university and a mayor all with that thing. No wonder he is nearly blind now if he isn’t without his glasses for the resolution of that thing but it did it all and for the time there wasn’t any better competition for the quality build, integrated software, portability and looks. I had a PowerBook G4 12” at that time, I loved that little square but mine didn’t make it and died of fried motherboard for no apparent reason 3 years after buying it. This was the time when Apple had fun, diverse, products and there was an entry level offer for almost anything. Damn what a joke now! I’m glad I was an Apple user through it’s best era: 2003-2015. Now I buy only iPhones and iPads from them, thank God there’s good competition now for anything else

I bought a used camera from a very reputable dealer, previous owner had left an SD card with photos on it. Also in the camera was the name, and email address. Looking at the photos I could see why they sold it back, they were not very good. No one is going to remove your data from anything these days. Phones, tablets, laptops, cameras, if you are tossing the equipment wipe everything off. If you can’t, pull the hard drive then run a screwdriver through the drive. If you are looking to sell it, it still works, wipe it clean. I have even low level formatted drives several times just to make sure.

With so many people not realizing there are people that CAN read your failing hard drive......I drill holes thru it first- try to get data off it if you must People you HAVE to protect your data the best you can or you WILL pay the price.........This also goes for AntiVirus- do not go on the Internet without some form of it installed and activated-so many are absolutely free

windows 11 won't boot on an older system like the first one you used because it's a UEFI operating system and not supported by legacy bios motherboards. also, I'm a computer technician and occasional dumpster diver. I have close to 150kg of old hard drives still waiting for me to dig through them. I actually DO use crypto and hunt for lost bitcoin lol but it's so time consuming and never yields much besides the occasional pirated movie collection or non-DRM video games lol

Windows 11 requires a TPM and Secure Boot so it's no surprise that the HDD with Windows 11 wouldn't boot.

Reminds me of the time when I was a copy machine technician. One day while driving through town, I noticed come computers half sticking out of a garbage can an some on the curb. Some of them looked to be beat up as if they were trying to do their own data destruction. I immediately stopped, got out of my van to inspect & recover any salvageable hardware. Worst damage, the cases were beat up. I looked inside the cases. No noticeable motherboard damage and hard drives still intact. All hardware was recovered into my work van. Kicker? These computers were ones that my kids' dentist office threw out!!! 😂 Needless to say, I went into the office and had a nice chitchat with my kids' dentist about e-waste and proper data destruction of data storage devices!!!

The REALLY terrifying part is that our boy's drive there has a shortcut for a Faculty of Organization and Informatics email account. That's a drive of a trained IT professional with a possible IT degree. With possible interest into Croatian daytime soap operas. Which is even more terrifying. Could be ironic though.

I used to drive down the alley behind homes in more affluent neighborhoods the day before the first trash day after Christmas. Tons of excellent working computers were to be found.

You should try running Autopsy against the drive, you could uncover even more interesting things, including perhaps some hidden bitcoin (yes, it can find them!)

I use mine as a car diagnostic tool, use on my Vauxhall has saved me pounds on not paying for diagnostics. I have windows 7 on it not the fastest machine but works well.

Been working on computers for such a long time, I dont even look what I backup from customer drives or what people store. I literally do not care.

Especially when you are selling them. Just put in a cheap SSD/HDD off of Amazon and install a basic Linux/Debian distro as a 'base' OS for the prospective buyer to use as they decide on their own whether they would like to use Windows or not. Maybe it was from a stolen PC, and the hard drive was thrown away to be replaced with a clean brand new one - seems possible since it was so new.
