Fire Emblem is pretty cool!
A Look at Sully: My Favorite Christmas Cav!
00:00 - Intro and Sully Overview
03:37 - Sully's Training Arc and Contributions
15:53 - Class Options
23:52 Kjelle and Potential Pairings
Awakening's Christmas cavs feel a little overlooked to me, often discarded as too weak to be major contributors for lunatic, especially in an efficient context. I walk through what Sully's early game looks like and how we can get her from humble beginnings to the primary combat carry in an Awakening run. I also talk about why I like her better then Stahl, what her class options look like, and a few pairings I like for her.

Marth: Fire Emblem's Weirdest Best Unit
Sully my girlboss
i'll say it i hated 3 houses due to the hub, i hated every thing about it
Personally i don't think its worth taking vander past chapter like 8 or so in engage, when you start getting units in Brodia. His base stats are really bad for a prepromote and his growths arent like Jagen levels of 0-10% but they are still very poor, probably the worst in the game (etie's are also quite bad but at least she has good strength). Engage has so many units that join with strong base stats that he just stops being useful. Sure you can reclass him to have staff utility later but you'd just end up replacing him with ivy or hortensia anyways, or just use anyone else that you reclass that isnt vander. I think Jagens have their purpose for the first few chapters to make things easier but Vander falls off pretty bad (unlike someone like Titania). If anything Vander is pretty good as a Jagen because he doesn't one round everything so he is good for setting up kills for your earlier units you want to train, but once he stops being able to do that he just isnt worth it.
good video
Very cool to see Sully get love. Nice starter’s guide on how to get her off the ground on higher difficulties! It may interest you to know that Sully is the #1 pick in Awakening Draft Racing. I recently participated in a team relay draft race. We got Sully as our Carry and she showed her dominance 😎
There are two more weird recruitments that come to mind for me, one in Path of Radiance and two in Birthright. (gap for spoilers) In Path of Radiance, Shinon leaves the party early on, and reappears as a red unit in a late-game chapter. In order to recruit him, you have to first talk to him with Rolf, then "kill" him with Ike. In Birthright, Kaze joins the party automatically - but if he doesn't have at least an A Support with Corrin by the end of Chapter 15, he dies in a cutscene. You could argue this counts as a recruitment condition, if considering your endgame party, and Kaze must be alive and married after Chapter 15 in order to unlock Midori's paralogue.
Idk, ik im wrong but with the free bolt and colm being a unique unit with a fast support neimi feels like a free unit. Her stats are not that poor when taking in effective weaponry and crit weapons (swords and bows are good at both with the free support boosting it) and she promotes into a mounted class. With "favoritism", you can give her robes and a draco shield to make a completely suitable unit. Not the best, but i just dont feel that ppor girl dunking
I skipped every cutscene. The gameplay is so much fun. 100 hours and Ive beaten all tempest trial levels. No +save = done. Now going back to 3H for a different storyline.
I think the biggest reason we don't see BEXP in modern Fire Emblem games is that the core mode for the average player just doesn't have particularly limited EXP. It's easy to do some grinding maps to train up your units, so the incentive to do bonus incentives is less strong. I think the system is a really great way to drive players outside of their comfort zone with the carrot not the stick, so if I were designing a new linear Fire Emblem game I'd definitely consider bringing it back, but I'd probably make the criteria clearer. Knowing the number of turns you need to finish a map in to get the bonus really drives you to take risks, use your whole army and try different strategies
i mean this game originally was meant to take place in Archanea (inbetween FE1 and 3) and characters from those were suppose to appear, which could explain why we have literal Linde in everything but name and hair color
Myrrh is awesome BUT I would NEVER feed her the eggs, that is valuable guaranteed good exp for units who are higher lvl promoted units that can make better use off it, she is guaranteed to grow on anything so I would never deny them their growth on someone who would grow quickly regardless.
An idea I have for an in universe explanation of bonus exp would be that completing these objectives could increase the army's "morale," which you could use up by "training" at the base. Essentially, the higher the morale of your units, the more incentivized they are to train in order to get stronger. And they can communicate this through base conversations throughout the game by naturally discussing with Ike about the importance of morale and listing ways that a motivated army can be a benefit. They could even include elements that might lower morale on harder difficulties, such as losing a unit or failing a map objective. I don't have a problem with how it is presented as is since it is such a gamey mechanic but it's fun to think about theoreticals like this I feel.
12:15 Alpaca Paladin Amber would absolutely break communities holy shit
Loved the video, but I was hoping you wold mention Gaios when you talked about buying characters in a chapter, since he makes a joke of it by dening money and accepting a bag of candy in exchange. Also, since we are already talking about Awakening, I think you should have mentioned that Severa would turn into a red unity if you kill the wrong enemy unity, even if you talk to her as Cordelia before.
I adore the save tiles
My favourite part of sully's supports are the ones she has with vaike. It starts silly, but it highlights a bit of vaike's youth and reasons for joining the shepherds before it goes into a deep dive about Sully's motivations as a knight in training. Sully's line of "I'll fight for the Shepherds until I've damn EARNED the title of knight!" still lights a fire in me, just as it does Vaike in their A support.
I like when I come up with a strategy and then find out it’s the recommended way to play. Nosferatu taking in awakening was my get out of jail free card.
love the pangya background music
the dawn brigade units are not cracked and jacked they are butt and cheeks nolan gets pretty good sothe falls off leonardo and edward are jokes and micaih has some good thani use butt still aint that good
Thracia 19 is just a walking simulator once you know to recruit one of the mage knights, cos' the enemies stop targeting your units.
I don't like using my jagens mostly because i love project units. I will typically bench them asap in favor of trainee/villager units. It's half the reason i have hundreds of hours in 3 houses even though Fe9&10 are my favorite games story and character wise.
Something I’m noticing is that Fire Emblem Awakening is never used as an example in these types of videos.
Yeah, as someone who came into this franchise with Awakening, I have always tended to lean on casual mode, Because that's earnestly what it feels like a lot of the modern games are designed around. I think Revelations would actually make a pretty fair ironman once you get past some of the meaner designs of some of the maps. Mainly because the cast is so huge effectively merging two whole fire emblem casts into one, to the point that you do get late units, issue is of course, that Rev units are weird in terms of their starting stats at times. Alongside the general issue with the 3DS games where units are much more frequently projects. Casual means the only punishment for failing to keep a unit alive is that they aren't getting fed as much, but can still stick around to get EXP in the next map. IT WAS only recently that I did connect the dots that "hey, maybe I SHOULDN'T waste so much time in Fire Emblem trying to make ALL of my units evenly leveled and try instead to hard focus on making a smaller handful viable via feeding them." Suffice to say, it has made replaying the Fates games so far a much more smooth experience than sitting down and trying to grind units I know are gonna get benched towards the end anyway. I might actually commit to playing a Classic Soft Ironman down the line even, cause we do have all those units on the bench and with some games it's not like grinding isn't an option usually. It's certainly an interesting thing to consider.
Little late to the party but you need to up your audio and tone down the game. I can barely hear you some of the time.
Permadeaths are actually a huge improvement from the dialogue perspective when it comes to characters like Leonie
Reasons to play SoV: 1. Best game 2. What Lies at the End
True!
I never knew people didn’t like battle animations in the DS games. I actually thought they were the best ones (out of what I’ve seen)
Now we need to see you do a Vander only run of Engage.
Chloe is always rated so highly but mine always sucks ass.
What a four tier class system like 3 houses. When you upgrade to the next set of classes you keep any weapon proficiency you had from the previous classes. So if you were a mage and you upgraded into a flying unit, you can still use the magic you had from the previous class. Also your growth rates from all the classes you took accumulate along with skills unlocked by the classes, so by the time you reach the final class tier you can either be highly specialized, or a jack of all trades.
people really dislike atb because on active it forces you to play fast. But they don't stop to think it adds a lot of strategy and skill required to the game. Like in FF5, one of the most aggressive ATB games. You play that on active, it's a really hard game that forces you to think about whether going into the magic menu is worth it because it uses a lot of time to do that. It also makes you have to sort your item menu in an effective way so you can get to the items you need to better or you just simply die because FF5
So the freaking lil nerd with a pot on his head for awakening wasnt freaking weird? Im just doing something wrong....kkk
I enjoyed the AI for some bosses in FE7 Hard Mode. When you move into their movement range, they will start attacking your units. I also enjoyed some levels in a romhack Road to Ruin, where after a certain turn count, the boss will order an all-out attack; the boss will join his units in moving out to attack.
Having weapons need a certain Con/Build stat is a really interesting idea. Maybe it'd mean mercenaries can use Blades that myrmidons can't use for higher might. Or armor knights can use Greatlances that cavs and fliers can't use. It'd also make Body Rings/Con boosters more meaningful rather than being a meme since you could mybe make a unit able to wield a strong heavy weapom they wouldn't notmally be able to. I wish this were a system used in a game or romhack.
I have no problem with unit identity. If i see a cute portrait i want to use them.
How do I get Olwen and Mae rings?
I really wosh thieves were normal in engage. Yunaka is just begging for a trickster promo and Zelkov would be a perfect assassin.
"What lies at the end" is one of my favorite songs in the entire series along with "a dark fall" and the og recruit theme
Hmm, yeah, I think you're playing the base version, not the most up to date patch. I guess if you like it, can always come back to play it fully updated on a future run. (Probably not worth risking updating it mid playthrough.) ...Wonder if Moulder has the 'stash on his sprite by then? Wait, why did you go the whole stream without distributing items to units, even once you got the prep menu? Might as well at least have all the weapons on people that can use them. Don't forget you have stuff in storage already, too. Cure is probably like the Slim weapons, and gives super high Staff exp returns? With Neimi having +1 max bow range, I'm betting on Innes having -1 minimum bow range or Close Counter. Especially with Neimi's defensive stats being reduced, I'm expecting Innes to be a close range scrapper type of bow specialist that can take hits even better than in vanilla Sacred Stones. But, who cares about any of that! We made it through chapter 4, where we meet one of the best written characters in the whole franchise for the first time... L'Arachel! Oh, woah, she's even more generous than usual! (What ends up happening to the three you didn't pick?)
The way I see weapon durability is that when it's there the weapons them selves are the resource. But in a game like engage, the resource is the upgrading materials which. I personally prefer this version of handling weapons because I find the inventory management very annoying with a cavalier having their inventory filled with weapons that are close to breaking and there replacements leaving no room for consumables or situational weapons for rare cases
while fire emblem was easy one thing it did right, was have great replayability, for since any unit has the potential to become a good unit, you can make a variety of team comps with different styles that all feel so satisfying to play. This helps greatly with the fact the map design isn't particularly biased towards one single class
I'm only like 15 minutes into this stream so idk if you figure it out by the end of stream, but you can view growths in this game, the option to turn on the ability to see them is in the options menu and set to off by default for some reason.
I can respect that decision. Helps people avoid stumbling across it when they'd prefer to not have the temptation, but anyone determined enough to go looking online/read-mes for it can find it more conveniently in-game.
I don't bother trying to draft, I get enjoyment out of using different characters I don't need to find a way to make myself do it
This is a really good looking mod/overhaul of FE8. I will definitely check it out.
4:32 OR I COULD USE THE WARP STAFF
Oh my god, this Lizard model is so charming. Big love to whoever made it
