5R55W Tear Down, Let's talk about transmission repairs...
Переглядів 3 тис.2 роки тому
Oh the fun of a 5R55W. This transmission was a fun one to open. While a P0741 can be a fun code to chase, it wasn't in this one. The final result of finding a leaking pump gear was a fun one to find. Thank you for watching.

6T70 Step by Step, How to Install (without vehicle lift)

Well we got a little of topic today. Kinda, this was a lot of fun to do. Starting this we move the transmission under the vehicle and get right to work. While installing a used transmission is not something we typically do in our shop sometimes ya just gotta. The first step for install was to get the bellhousing matted to the back of the engine. Easing the transmission up flush we were able to ...

I just watched another video where they had a larger outer spring a smaller inner spring. Is the smaller spring not necessary because it looks like it is meant to keep the black valve from falling out of the metal boost piece.

Great stuff, yeah, I did many M1 tank transmissions, and many others, I'll be honest, I think the newer belt transmissions work better overall, I own several and the cars just feel a lot better, I do have a mustang with the 10 speed and to me it feels clunkier, the continuous up and down shifting just becomes a pain, it tries to stay on higher gears to keep rpm down for fuel economy and it bogs down the engine and creates droning quiet a bit. On the belt driven is very smooth up or down on the other cars. Just my 1 cent, cuz I owe the other cent to the IRS!

David - sweet video. I’ve watched all your videos and appreciate your contributions for the rest of us out here in the trenches building at home. I’m doing nearly an identical valve body build right now that you could consider a mix match of parts. 4L60E - TransGo SK Kit + Sonnax Pinless Accumulators (FWD, 1-2, 3-4). So many mixed opinions out here and tough to get a straight answer. I am well aware that the Sonnax Pinless 1-2 Accumulator Piston does not play well with the TransGo HD2 spring arrangements (nor the SK Junior if I remember correctly) and I think many people generalize this as an answer of “Do Not Use TransGo springs with Sonnax Pinless Accumulators”. I noticed you’re one of only 2-3 people I’ve seen use the 1-2 Pinless Accumulator with what looks to be an SK kit shown in your video. Any issues with this as I’m looking to do the same thing but can’t get a straight answer from a reputable builder such as yourself?? In my opinion I’d like to say the SK kit is the only spring arrangement for the 1-2 you can get away with this without any modifications or worries - I’d love to hear your feedback? Thanks and keep up the vids!! 9:23

I am witnessing pure skills of a mechanic. Thank you for the video I just bought a Torque Converter yesterday for my 2011 Ford Fusion. My car woud stop accelerating in the middle of going up hill a with major traffic coming behind me not to mention I was hearing metal grinding sound and smelling something burning possible from friction. I have 187,000 miles in my car I studied and came across possibly a Torque Converter issues. I just had a used transmission put in my vehicle on April it was gamble and it could've been worse. I will have my mechanic replace it and hopefully that'll fix my acceleration issue, thanks again for the video sir.

Quick question on the vent hoses. So the one on driver side heads back to the transfer case. The other vent on the pass side. One goes to the top of the trans but there is a y. Where does that go?. I been trying to figure this out.

While replacing this ignition switch Dave subtly tosses out the following: "When I was 19 I did one of these ignition switch jobs without the use of a steering wheel puller." I cannot overstate how difficult that would be. I would say it's impossible and most mechanics would agree. But Dave did it. For that reason alone I liked & subscribed to this channel; a transmission repair channel. If I understood Dave correctly when he attempted this job so many years ago HE DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THERE WAS SPRING TENSION ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THAT CLIP. So when he finally tore the clip out BANG he was startled by the release. That is called Follow through. In the Oxford Dictionary under the word determination it should just have a picture of Dave with a caption underneath that reads See Him.

Because of you, I successfully reinstalled the 6L80 in my 2015 Sierra 1500 XLT 4x4 so a huge thank you! TC pushed in correctly had good spin on it when bell housing was tightened securely to the engine block and tightened those 3 TC bolts nicely, buttoned everything back up, exhaust, drive shaft, starter, etc. TC was already slowly filled with about a quart of AFT before I set it into the trans. After buttoning it all up I also added 8 more quarts to the newly rebuilt trans., turned the truck on for a quick moment, then shut it back off. Added about 4 more quarts of ATF (D6) and leveled it off, did my road tests successfully and I am a happy camper. Good work with the video!

I'm not a mechanic but would suggest being VERY careful when setting down and pulling apart the various components during this disassembly. I would avoid letting anything drop down to your metal table as much as possible to avoid denting important parts. Scared me a couple times to be honest ;-) but awesome video!!!

Sir, I’ve been surfing the Internet, looking for videos on the Transmission as a Transmission builder myself I took apart a 2014 Nissan nv not realizing under the center support on some applications. It does not have a trust bearing or a trust washer now every service manual I have found or every video I have found shows washer or a Torrington bearing under there so happy I found your video because on your application does not have one and that makes me feel better putting back this transmission together.

Hey bro, ive already replaced the ignition switch just like in your video...fast forward a few years later which is now...my ignition switch started to act up or what i thought was ignition switch...truck would intermittently shut off while driving then it got worse and i noticed that if i rotate the switch forward almost to the crank position then the truck would stay running...i thought it was bad switch because i used non acdelco so i got new oem switch and that didnt fix my issue...truck will crank up just fine but will shut off when switch returns after starting...WTF?...im gonna go to dealership and see if they could print me off a diagram from alldata but was wondering if you could help...i may just bypass all of it and just run a switch with a push button like the race cars have...its a 94 chevrolet k1500 auto 4x4 5.7

Hey man I rebuilt my 94 4l60e almost a year ago on my camaro and was working great no leaks (my first transmission rebuild ever) I only had like 500 miles on it, I only use the car some weekends. Thing is a couple weeks ago I went on a 40 mile trip and the transmission cooler failed, huge leak I dont know at what point in the trip it happened but when I got home it was shifting weird and had very slow reverse, very low on fluod. I replaced the cooler and refilling I accidentally overfilled the transmission but didn't notice it. Then I went to a test drive for like 6-8 miles and the transmission was working good just a bit harsh on the 1-2 shift but felt back to normal. I noticed the fluid level and took some fluid out to get it to the correct level. Thing is now it has a leak which seems to be from the pump seal, do you guys think that the low fluid due to the cooler leak caused the torque converter to overheat and damaged the seal? I don't really know cause I need to take the converter cover out to really see what's happening but the fluid it's coming from that area for sure and I think it's the only place it can leak but I might be wrong

Only one exhaust manifold bolt was a severe pain but I ran up and purchased a bolt extractor and slid a 14 mm over the nut on the driver side and hammered it in good and tight and used impact to back it off without damaging the studs.
