    3:36 I USE LASER GRBL FOR ENGRAVING IMAGES, AND LIGHTBURN FOR FONTS, LINES, SHAPES DEEP ENGRAVING OF GRAPHICS, LIGHTBURN DOES NOT WORK WELL FOR ENGRAVING IMAGES, ITS BEST TO HAVE AND USE BOTH SOFTWARES, EXAMPLE, I LASER ENGRAVE AN IMAGE WITH LASER GRBL, AND THEN I LASER ENGRAVE MY SIGNATURE, DATE AND ANY INFORMATION OR DETAILS WITH LIGHTBURN, BUT HAVING AND USING BOTH IS BEST, LIGHTBURN CHARGES 60 DOLLARS FOR A YEAR FOR A LICENSE, FOR UPDATES AND NEW FEATURES, THE LICENSE RENEWAL IS THE SAME COST, EVERY YEAR 60 DOLLARS, I HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT THAT COST, I HAVE NOT A DID A LICENSE RENEWAL, FOR THE COST OVER THE YEARS THAT IS HUNDRES IF NOT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS, THE SOFTWARE STILL WORKS THE SAME WITHOUT A LICENSE, NO NEW FEATURES OR UPDATES, THE COST IS NOT WORTH IT, I USE LASER GRBL MUCH MORE

    THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST LASER VIDEO I HAVE SEEN, GREAT JOB ON THE VIDEO, YOU ARE RIGHT ON EVERYTHING YOU SAID, I HAVE SAID THE SAME EXACT THINGS MANY TIMES, WHEN I FIRST GOT MY LASER, I WATCHED A LOT OF LASER VIDEOS TO HAVE NO ANSWERS, EVEN MORE CONFUSED AND FRUSTRATED MORE THAN BEFORE, ONCE I DECIDED TO TRY THINGS MY WAY, THINGS WORKED OUT, NOW ENGRAVING IS EASY ON A 20 WATT DIODE LASER, I KNOW WHAT WORKS, WHAT DOES NOT, WHERE I MAKE MISTAKES, AND HOW TO CORRECT THEM, THERE ARE ACTUALLY A LOT OF THINGS TO LEARN AND KNOW, LIKE WHERE TO SET UP LASER, ANCHORING LASER TO A TABLE TO PREVENT MOVEMENT OR SHIFTING OF THE LASER UNIT, A LASER ENCLOSURE(I MADE MY OWN), EXHAUST FAN AND FILTER, COOLING SET UP FOR KEEP THE AIR COOL INSIDE OF THE ENCLOSURE, CLEANING THE LASER, MAINTENANCE OF THE LASER, POWER SPEED NUMBERS FOR DIFFERENT MATERIALS, THAT TAKES A LOT OF TIME AND A LOT OF TEST, I HAVE A NOTEBOOK WITH ALL OF THE NUMBERS POSER SPEED MATERIALS, TYPE OF FINISH, PREPARATION OF MATERIALS BEFOR LASER ENGRAVING, THERE IS MUCH KORE, ALSO SETTING UP THE PROJECT ON THE COMPUTER, AND ALL OF THOSE SETTINGS, THERE IS MUCH MORE THSN THIS, BUT IT EVENTUALLY BECOMES SECOND NATURE

    If you use a diffused light source using either drawing film or even white shower curtain on the opposite side and above the shiny surface you should be able to capture the engraving easier. Just google photographing jewellery or light tents :)

    Hello friend, first of all, thanks for sharing. I didn't understand what should be filled in this part: Label Material Note Label Power 30 % Output Power Label Speed 300 mm/s My laser is the xTOOL D1 Pro 10W and the manufacturer says the beam width of this laser is 0.08mm. P.S.: Could it be that by deduction, in my laser, the Kerf would be 0.04mm?

    • @LetsMakeAThing
      @LetsMakeAThing 12 днів тому

      Definitely buy a stronger extractor fan! The one that comes stock in the machine is similar to a small PC case fan. It doesn't have enough power to push air from the laser down any length of exhaust pipe. This is a common issue with most all in one diode lasers.

    The material library section was news to me; thank you! I’m still learning to use Lightburn and my laser. Getting settings dialed in has been a pain because every material engraves/cuts differently. Hopefully I can build up a material library (and some experience) so I’m not starting from scratch each time.

    As a lathe operator, try clamping the tumbler at its base rather than the top which means reducing the chance of damaging the rim with the chuck jaws, also the additional weight of the tumbler base is now in the chuck instead of in fresh air, reducing any droop you may get. Just a suggestion and don't forget to turn your engraving image upsidedown as well 🙂

    • @LetsMakeAThing

      The size difference between square and rectangular dot sizes on diodes is only 1-2 hundredths of a millimeter. Such a small size discrepancy won't make a difference in the testing and kerf settings.

    Thanks for your time in reviewing the B1.... As the B1 does not come with a crosshair laser, I needed a good way to align my beam. I got the idea from "Steve Makes Everything" and copied the design. Since the "4 pack" of laser crosshairs was cheaper at 19 bucks, that's what I bought and after assembly, alien tape held the unit on the left side - front laser head nicely. My first use of the crosshair did provide a good alignment spot, but, it was waaay too bright. Using a 500 ohm pot, (potentiometer), in series with the +5 volt feed line, (powered by USB power cable), I am able to dial down the laser crosshair brightness to barely visible to full on.... Since the current draw of the laser crosshair is only ~ 20 mA/.1 watt, the typical 500 ohm pot's rating of .25 watts will handle the load. The lasers that do come with a laser crosshair are OK, but, you cannot vary the brightness and if you are halfway handy, a home built pointer will serve you waaay better with adjustable brightness.... You just need to see a faint crosshair, not a blinding brightness that makes it hard to see.... Remember to set up the "laser offset" in LB, test, and be good to go..

    Could you cut slots in your aluminum heat sink and add a fan for air circulation?

    • @LetsMakeAThing
      @LetsMakeAThing Місяць тому

      The laser is fully enclosed and I have it hooked up to my extractor fan so it's pulling a lot of air over the aluminum block as is. I think the next step would be a water cooled block and some thermal compound between the stainless and the aluminum. Alternatively, running more passes would probably be more efficient. I was just too lazy to test running lots of passes. 🤣
