Never saw someone before engraving with diode laser on transparent acrylic. May i ask a question will it work same on frosted & milkey arcylic? And can this metod cut this 3 kind of arcylic?
@@RichDogOfficialMusic I haven't tested this on frosted acrylic so I can't say for sure. Sadly, you cannot cut clear acrylic with a diode laser even using a method like this.
Way back in the day when I was in Scouting, we used to rub some soap on the outside of cooking pots before putting them on the fire to help keep soot from sticking to the bottom of the pot.
You have a really educational way explaning, very good 🙂👍 most people wouldnt have told soap-side down..and i would sit there scratching my head and wonder 🙂
@@LetsMakeAThing well I’m new to the laser world so I’m still learning all of the settings. I did my first slate coaster last night, but that smell is terrible and then acrylic. Your method worked beautifully! I was applying black paint on the underside of acrylic and alcohol to remove fingerprints and dust. My acrylic kept cracking!! The soap and detergent worked wonders, and I prefer the black card stock rather than paint (no messes or cleanup in between). I actually used your settings and the results were great! Thanks a bunch.

How do you think I could set this up using a 5W diode laser? I have a Sculpfun s9. I would love any advise you can give me. I know I would have to set the laser for a longer time or multiple passes.
I would run a materials test in Lightburn to get a baseline of where your laser starts to engrave the acrylic using this method. Then you can take those numbers and tweak them till you get results you're happy with.
You're welcome! I used the spray glue to hold the card stock down to my bed. It wasn't really necessary in retrospect. I just wanted to be sure it didn't move during setup and engraving.
Great video, Thankyou. Been wondering how to engrave clear acrylic using my diode laser, one question though. What alternatives you would recommend in place of the spray adhesive ?
Your videos are making my dive into laser cutting/engraving so much more pleasurable, thank you! However, I couldn't get all the black off my acrylic, could you tell me why that may be?
I found that when I was getting leftover soot on the acrylic it was one of two issues. Either I was putting the soap on too thin or I was still running the laser too slow (or too much power). It took a lot of tweaking to get it just right.
Is it possible to engrave deep enough to be able to fill the engraving with black paint? I want to make clear round knob dial skirts with numbers engraved (miror imaged) on the back side of 1/32 clear plastic cut the center and the perimeter out (like a disc with a hole in the center) and then fill the numbers with paint so they stand out with illumination from the rear. Thanks for the video. I ordered rhe card stock and adhesive to give your method a try. Question, what does the adhesive do for tuis method? Does laying the card stock down without glue cause an issue?
I used the adhesive to make sure the card stock wouldn't move around and cause alignment issues. May not be necessary, as I often over-engineer solutions.

I tried your settings and immediately the acrylic started popping. I have the 20 watt WeCreate Vision diode laser. How is it that you're able to use such a high power percentages when most other recommendations for etching acrylic with a diode laser are to use low power?
It could be that the auto focus on the WeCreat isn't precise with the clear acrylic and it's ending up slightly de-focused. I found when I de-focused my laser at all it caused the popping with the speeds and power I was using.
I am using a Creality Falcon2 22w. The acrylic is popping like crazy with these setings. I lowered the power and increased the speed and it is still happening. Any suggestions?
Double check your focus. I found that when my laser wasn't focused properly I'd end up with lots of pops. If you haven't done a ramp test to make sure your laser focus is dialed in I'd also suggest doing that so your focus is really precise. If you've done both of those things, keep going faster and lowering the power till you get it dialed in.
