    Anyone have any issues with the Tuareg? Thinking about getting one over a Tenere but reliability concerns…

      You’re thinking of a Tenere or Tuareg? Regardless, no issues in terms of reliability for mine, but I have less than 2K miles on it.

      Go with “da rag,” as I’ve come to call it. You won’t regret it, whereas, if you get the Tenere, you’ll always have to qualify it by telling yourself, “well, it’s a better value and the smart purchase, et cetera, et cetera.”

    I'm picking up a new Tuareg next week and hearing reviews about overheating I came upon your channel. Maybe the issues are solved with this 24 model but if not I was thinking about drilling a hole instead and get rubber plugs that will fit so I can still close them in wintertime where it might be a benefit of having less wind going through.

    I installed a similar hand guard kit and I had to design and print a spacer for the front brake resiviour. It solves all the spacing issues. Plus removing the black plastic covers on the levers.

    • @ocdmoto

      Nice. I recently removed the weighted bar ends and as a result, I was able to change the angle of the hand guards to actually protect my knuckles from branches/brush.

    I wondered if you think opening the vents behind the radiator is helping your bike. I was thinking about drilling large holes in them to help air flow, but the more I think about it maybe it isn't going to do much for the bike.

    • @ocdmoto
      @ocdmoto Місяць тому

      Back when I did it, I was hoping my bike would run cooler, thus, justifying opening those vents. However, when checking with some other folks with the same bike under normal riding conditions, it didn’t seem to make a difference. However, still, I’m glad I did it because the thought of fake vents really bothered me.

    Thanks for the video and pointing some things out others haven't. I pick mine up tomorrow. I paid $400 more for the Dakar color. Paying $12,699 plus $800 for delivery in New Hampshire. Hope you are still liking the bike after two years. Regarding form following function, I couldn't agree with you more. I would never buy a Mustang because of the stupid side vents in the rear when it is a front engine car. Maybe I will drill out the plastic behind the radiator to make them a bit more effecient and purposeful. I totally thought the intakes were up high by the light and I am pretty sure a youtuber said they were specifically. I wonder where the intake draws air from if not there.

    • @ocdmoto
      @ocdmoto Місяць тому

      The intake is underneath the "tank." I think I have another video when I take it apart and show how to do it. It's been a while since I've been riding and doing these videos, over a year. I'm only now getting back into it and my memory is failing me as to what I vlogged and whatnot. Anyways, I'm back! I think you'll enjoy the bike, as much as I think I over paid and it's not perfect, I'm glad I still have it.

    My biggest issue with the Tuareg after 1500km so far is the heat to my legs. BOTH sides. Above the boot and above and below my knee area I feel the engine grilling my legs on even normal 'warm' days here in Finland. Did this mod help with the heat on the legs? Meaning does it cool down the knee area at all?

    Ok, just found the lithium battery on my 1 yr old Tuareg dead as a door nail. Of course the warranty’s good for only a 6months. The optimate charger had been hooked up but unlike a agm btry, you don’t want to leave it on 24/7! With the battery not showing any form of life, the optimate charger wouldn’t recognize it. I hooked my large car charger up for a couple of minutes and got some voltage in the BS Lithium btry and than the lithium charger kicked in. As of this morning I had 2 green LEDs showing and all indicators lit on the btry. Of course with the plastic cover/hold down installed, you can’t read the indicators but a small screwdriver can be used to press the test button and the indicators can be seen. The owner’s manual on pg 256 suggests using a yuasa YT12A-BS lead btry if operated outside of temperatures 32/104f. Just ordered one from Walmart. List price on the Aprilia btry is $595.00 although af1 shows a BS LITHIUM REPLACEMENT FOR around $175.00.

      Interesting, mine is always fully charged whenever I remember to put on my trickle charger. I probably did it about three times throughout the last year where it sat. I do have a Norco “smart” charger that has a specific 12V Li mode. Anyways, good luck with your 2nd battery. BTW, sorry for the delay in my response, it’s been a while since I’ve been up on this channel. Getting back into it though.

    I got me the same lowered seat... actually it is less comfortable compared to the stock one. Little bit lower, but not really noticeable. Might be down to my 5'8'' "size". Only used it so far for short trips less than 100 miles (160km). Will give it a try on long distance tour in summer and will decide to keept it or not.

    I think you have these installed incorrectly. Looking at SW’s instructions, you don’t use the rounded bar end weights. This moves the backbones and internal mounting point inwards, allowing more room for the master cylinder (which I can’t see in your video, but I think is pressing against the internal bracket). Barkbusters does make tear drop shaped bar end weights that mount outside of the aluminum backbone. Or you can use a master cylinder bar spacer.
