"Excuse the crudity of these photos"- bringing out your Emmet "Doc" Brown I see... 😉 Impressive work, btw 😊
Fun build and excellent paint work! Btw, do you recommend a vendor for custom decals? I have an old airplane kit of my grandfather’s that I am restoring.
Hi, reach out to Keith at cozmicscalemodels.com - he can help you.
Where do you find those models?
Most sculpture like this can be found at modeling shows - I left info for you in the description on who this one came from! Cheers!
Another awesome job, Phil. This brought back memories of seeing Boris Karloff in a TV show / soap opera my sister watched in the mid/late 60's called "Dark Shadows" wherein he played a vampire.
Don't want to burst your bubble Phil, but when you mentioned that young people don't really care about the classic monster movies, my son is 28 years old and I initiated him to watch those classic movies and he loves them...😊😁 Great job on the painting of the model 👍
I’m so glad to hear that!! 👏
Oh my goodness I was not expecting a start to finnish build in this video..... Awesome creation, .... When I started watching and got to the 11 minute stage I was thinking that they should be a way to light the candle, and had even strted a comment to say just that. I had paused the video to write the comment, but had not finnished it. I went back to the video and more or less the very next thing you talked about was putting a LED in to give the candle a lighted effect! And it has turned out great!
When I first caught sight of the plinth and rocky -- what, architrave? or cistern? -- which was in the background of your last Enterprise D effort--- I thought it was a fallen soufflé! Well, it was in soft focus... Speaking of Lon Chaney, I think see quite a bit of him in this likeness. The pug nose and wicked grin. The Monster itself is only lacking in a license from Universal for a complete likeness. You should have gone for the original logo colors of the "Frankenstein" title in the back-- or even fluorescent colors. All in all, very nice.
Thank You Phil for the Tutorial and Sharing. Much Appreciated. Frankenstein's Monster has had a soft spot in my heart sense childhood. Shadow Creations came up with a Cool concept, with Boris shaking Monsters hand. My criticism comes with the Karloff face sculpt, it Definitely isn't a Jeff Yagher sculpt. I think Yagher is one of the Best, if not the best Monster movie sculptor. Thanks Again Phil, Awesome job Indeed
The monster is amazing… true art 😊😊
Fantastic paintwork on this! This is a concept that would work great with a lot of older actors and their iconic characters (Nimoy/Spock, Ford/Indy, etc).
Awesome 👌👌👌👌👌👌
That Frankenstein face paint job is stunning. Awesome job Phil
For the candle flame you could use silicone sealant, which is transparent and slightly sculptable
This was a bust. Sorry I could not resist the joke... 😛
In the Midwest we have a tv station called metv and on Saturday night there is a show called Svengoolie and they play the old movies
Your talking my kind of movies. I love the old classics. Boris, Lon and Bela all did some great movies. I have a DVD collection of their best films. Vincent Price, Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee another set of actors I like. My dad proposed to my mom at the cinema while watching Dr Zhivago. Lara's theme became their tune. My favourite film of all time is The Wizard of Oz. It is era that sadly gone. But people like us will make sure those days are never forgotten. Great model Phil
I have a great Wizard of Oz build coming soon!
@@sprueVerse I look forward to seeing that one
That was quick! You did a wonderful job. Could you put an uplight on the poster on the back?
Thank you! I would have to scratch build a light box that extends outside of the alotted space to get the throw. I did think about that. Unfortunately the stage lights I picked up are shall we say no bueno!
@@sprueVerse ah well. So much for my bright idea.😁
It's a mirror, isn't it?
After reflecting on your comment I looked at the actual promotional photo that inspired the sculpt and I do believe that was their inspiration and intention. In plain English yes!😂
As famous Roman Philosophers would say…you’ll look back on this with fondness and you’ll forget the trials and tribulations….and eventually chalk them up to an opportunity to learn, and treasure the time spent with friends. The result looks amazing. Fantastic job Phil & Lou.
If you and Lou take these to Wonderfest, I think they are worth entering into the competion! You never know, you both could come back with a prize, because the amount of time and shared effort that went into creating something wonderful.
Way too thick cables. Why dont you use enamelled copper wire??? But a real nice build so far, looks really good.
Fantastic work but seems watching these videos you got stretch on skill hard hard work but looks brilliantly done shame so hard replacing electrics id given up
Phil, You have no idea how much better you make me feel by starting a new one before the old one is done. I've got a room full of 'em! Somehow, I've solved the problem I set myself and I drift on to the next big idea. I am so glad others do that as well. I used to keep a list and cirvcle back. now i just stack up another pile and roll on.
Just enjoy yourself and don’t worry about anything! Finishing a model is great but modeling is more important!!
So, the ATST I cooked up out of paper is 26 scale. Pretty stinking close. MY V-1 Is moveable but I have yet to cook up a way to lock the joints so I can stop motion directly. 17" tall, maybe a bit more with the legs fully extended. My time? Probably triple the cost of this booger. Materials. hundred bucks give or take. ANd... I have 2 built with a third half way. Gotta love a LASER...
Fantastic job Phil! Looks spectacular!!
Absolutely remarkable. You had a lot of challenges to say the least but you powered through and ended up with an extraordinary, spectacular replica of the Enterprise D. Wow. I look forward to seeing it in person.
Thanks Oggie! I look forward to hanging out.
You knocked it out of the park this time Phil. Absolutely fantastic!
My version of the build will be on display at the Inner Light booth at Wonderfest.
Hi Phil, don't sell yourself short.....then you'll be no taller than me! lol You and Lou have made an incredible job of creating such amazing models. Let's face it you were in an uphill battle against Helios, who it appears were making this kit on the cheap and selling it for lord knows how much......I checked out their Site and couldn't find anything about Prices to buy Kits......That being said, you guys should be proud to display your Models. Thank you both for sharing your journey building this awesome Model. Love to see the Enterprise E ( my favourite Enterprise) on this scale.
Thanks for sharing this, great to see both your thoughts on the model, and helps us following in your footsteps with the build to know what to look out for.
So which kit is better? This? Or the 1:1000?
Thank you guys both for doing this series! I ordered the kit on Oct 22 and it arrived last week. Super excited to start!
looks fantastic Phil!!
Do you know if your metal guy might be willing to make more of those armatures, since I assume he's got all the measurements down already? And since there are quite a few of us who will need one for this kit? Or was that more of a special one-time thing? No worries either way, I just had to ask.
It is always fun watching you two interacting.
Very nice recap. A painful process, but what a fantastic result. I'm sure at times the finish line seemed so far away that you'd never cross it. A great journey that shows the power of problem solving and perseverance.
Hi Phil Really enjoyed watching You and Lou's journey throughout this epic build, I know it's not Lou's first time to the rodeo, But watching you grow your skillsets as a model maker was truly inspiring it's given me some confidence to attempt adding a lighting kit to an old Titanfind DSV2 Liberator from the BBC show Blake's 7. Keep up the great work, From here in New Zealand 👍
This unexpurgated version of your Zoom Call was every bit as interesting as the abridged! My only crit is that you both should have had the lights lowered and your ships ON! A thought about possible nacelle droop-- not much to do about it going on. One wonders why they didn't print the pylon section in metal-filled or nylon resin. Heck, one piece out of all-metal wouldn't be that bad.
Wow thats huge
I know it was a lot of work, and a pain in the a**, but a beautiful model!
Congrats on an amazing build! I will definitely be referring to it many times once I decide to start on mine. So did you not have an issue with the gap at the back of the saucer like Lou did? I don't remember seeing you address that.
I did discuss the gap a few updates ago. Same issue but not as severe.
I can't wait to start building mine. I'm still waiting for Helios to send me the metal plate though. I don't know which batch mine came from, but my pylon has the tunnel already cut out for the red and green light on the back. Plus they gave me two deflector dishes. So far I haven't notice any of the problems you two had on your kits on mine. But until I start building it I won't know for sure.
That’s great to hear! Enjoy!
@5:16 Guys seriously? You don’t want to exhibit them? They look incredible! The paint jobs are amazing!
What a fantastic result Phil, so awesome 😍 but i am sad that the build is over ☹ loved to look your Helios series with all the highs and deeps, thank you very very much for this notable content on your great channel 🙂 one day i hope to see you, build a Enterprise G 😀
Wow we made it to the end! Looks fantastic! Well done!
@10:39 that is a hell of a paint job! Bloody well done!
Another option, is ... instead of filling a tank with any liquid ... try painting the inside of the glass with a transparent dye or paint in blues and greens - 'oceanic' colors. This WILL eliminate the weight. Or ... you can secure clear blue or green, or blue/green acetate sheets to the glass interior.
If it’s any consolation, Helios appear to have learned a lot after coming up with this kit. I have the recently released 1/460 Excelsior kit. It’s beautiful, I highly recommend it!
Ooo been waiting eagerly for this. It’s been a long road, getting from there to here! Well done Phil! She looks fantastic.
Congratulations on the finished peace of art .You have outdone yourself on this. Needs complete display case for this.
