I have printed a 3x scale version of the Phoenix and am following your trail of detailing. Given how big what I am building is; I am using rattle can painting for broad colors. Phil, have have wanted to make videos of my processes. I appreciate your ability to translate what's flowing around in your head 'out there' and will try to take baby steps to do the same.

About the Phoenix logo you mentioned, when I was part and color spotting the movie in the missle launch silo, I remember catching an edge of a yellow patch with what seemed to the tip of a bird wind. I am noodling around to see if I can make a Titan missle adapted body surround the can open or have posable flower pettles like seen in the movie.

What, why, how, etc. Don't you get the decals in the basic kit? 😢 I have not got to the end of the video yet, so haven't seen how expensive it is. But with any kind of model like this we ought to get everything we need to make a good basic model. I'm fine with upgrades like lights and or sound. But come on guys decals should not have to be an optional extra 🙄

Meanwhile, I'm trimming up an old Airfix Hercules that has an instruction sheet that must have been tasty to a mouse or something. On the plus side, I just picked the kit up for 25 bucks, so I can let go and not really GAF about how bad it really is...going to even use the worst RCAF decals I could ever have had an excuse for keeping.

I would have hoped they would have had a set of decals with just the escape pods, registry and star fleet pendants. That way Lou would make some vinyl masks you could use for all panel work. Considering the scale maybe Lou could make masks for all of it.

I subrcibed just to watch this being built. The lighting is the thing that caught my attention. I'm sure this model is well into the 1000's of USD (their DS-9 is around 4G) so being a a Prof. of Electronics with particular interest in MCUs. The only thing I see is that the NXP chip being used has more than likely been programmed by NXP so it's proprietary meaning if it breaks or dies its yours and no way to get at it from outside. But this is just me being an Open Source kind of guy. I bet this builds into a magnificent ship and I really hope for the best with the electronics. (PS...SMD means Surface Mount Device. What you have is addressable LED's.....just sayin) . Truly Good Luck

@@sprueVerse Well that depends, from your accent it appears we are far apart, You in a northern state Me very very far south. However, as you go along I'd be happy to consult. Let me also be clear. I wasn't trying to rain on your parade. You stated you don't know very much about the electronics other than they look well built. I agree, although, you did say that you thought most amateur devices look bad or incomprehensible. Anyone can use JCLPCB and get a beautiful end result and you don't have to be a pro. If you would like primers on addressable LED's I'd try Adafruit their stuff is usually pretty good, or any of 100s of UA-cam channels for all kinds of other info. FYI let me clarify the SMD thing. Many many many devices are SMDs it usually refers to things that are so small they have no through put (pins) to be placed on a PCB (Printed Circuit Board) that has thru hole connections, so connecting pads are on the PCB to solder them to. This is normally done with a pick n place machine and a microwave or other board heating machine to flow the solder, it can be done by hand on larger SMDs but still extremely difficult. Once again, I am awaiting the next installment. PS. I am a life long Modeller Ihave won many 1st place trophies at the IPMS local, regional and national shows I have been a national judge for the last 12 years so I'm not a diletante...just sayin.

The reason i’ve fully opened that phaser ring is because I will be using a much higher definition phaser effect using addressable high density LED strip on its side. Placing the individual LED’s in those 5mm openings so close to the surface of the strip may very well give you a low res effect with very visible individual light sources.

Clearly, Phil, your real estate negotiations with Mrs. S. have been moved to The Hague. And I wish you a lot of luck. Me--? I'm not in favor of working this large on anything. The last thing this size for me was my wife's car. I replaced the front end body and am still nursing various grudges. I did learn a valuable lesson: don't do that again. I am finding their FaceBook and web site pages remarkably empty of price structure for this thing. I may not seem terribly mercenary but when it comes to models-- especially a model big enough to motorize for personal transport-- I get mercenary. The one price I noted was 7,000 Euros for that 6" Ent E. A little math and I am getting $5Kilobucks total for this Ent D. Which is a big number, but not ridiculous, all things considered. Otherwise the site is modest enough considering the effort involved in all their projects. In fact, your one declaration of something wrong in that wonky bridge is utterly bewildering when the level of material science is so extraordinarily top-notch. I'll make a suggestion-- and I hope this doesn't arrive, through accident of time and space, too late-- but you might ask if there's a replacement insert available for that mushy bridge detail. It seems it was made to be popped out and replaced. The one thing they *don't* show on that website is the mold used to make those gigantic resin casting-- those windows alone are unnerving me. That would be fascinating. I also didn't catch a glimpse of what must a huge custom pressure chamber for that casting. Big enough for a turkey platter. Using a 1-inch pipe seems like overkill to me. I have minimalistic tendencies for any of my model mounts and I'd run that down to 1/2-inch. You edged up to the idea of housing the circuit board light/sound controller, out of the model and in the base. That makes sense to me for all sorts of reasons. Then, that smaller pipe might pose a tight fit for the entire suite of wiring from base to model. Then I might begrudge 3/4-inch... As for the LCARS "suggested" model base size-- well, they may have you there. Whatever your base turns out to be, it's gotta be sizeable. With all that being said, this is BIG modeling and I hail you for getting involved-- I hail Lou too (all this carrying on applies to him as well-- though let's see his bridge!) -- though can you imagine his mask set if the decals ran to 28 pages!!! It's going to be a fun ride.
