- Part one of this build series looks at the parts that come with this all-resin kit from HELIOS MODELS - you can find them on Facebook. Supplemental kits are lights, sound, and decals, which are sold separately. #scifimodels #startrek
now I'M the one curled up in the corner in the fetal position...
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Will be a long build but I'm sure you'll work your magic on it. Will be well worth the time and effort.
Great start to the build. Loved watching this while I was editing my video. This is ganna be an amazing build.
Phil, this is a massive and ambitious project. Holy heck, man! What a test of patience this will be. For me, the biggest issue is the decals. If I understood you correctly, you need to trim them all out from the carrier film. That would be a deal breaker for me. Pulling for you on this, friend. Will be watching.
Oh wie geil, Phil baut ein deutsches Enterprise Model :-) Die sind hier gleich um die Ecke, nice to see you biold this, this series makes me happy, thanks for do this big beauty 🙂
Holy Modeling Hell! Hat's off to you for tackling this behemoth. Looking forward to you and Lou doing an episode together. It'll be better than Martin and Lewis!
The little red buttons are "capacitive". There is a potential on one side. Your finger's proximity changes the potential and "closes" the switch. Them 3 solder lands on the outside could probably be measured with an ohm meter. Put a finger in the dot and the resistance would drop to zero. Or they only work when powered, the chips on the back put the potential on one side. same story measurement wise. Power to board. Touch circle, zero ohms. Cool idea, no contacts. More futur-ey!
What an awesome kit. And I was very impressed with the lighting kit as well. Good quality, it seems. Well, I should hope so for the price. I did find it strange that the decals weren't included and sold separately though.
I also use those Solarez products and they are fantastic. I've found many applications for them. Love em!
I would have hoped they would have had a set of decals with just the escape pods, registry and star fleet pendants. That way Lou would make some vinyl masks you could use for all panel work. Considering the scale maybe Lou could make masks for all of it.
The plan at the moment is to build this beast as supplied. Lou is making window masks. That alone is a huge undertaking!
I saw a kid do a huge B-1-B. He glued in the clear parts then unashaimedly sanded the spit out of the exterior of the cockpit. He just kept polishing unil the stuff was both perfectly flush and clear again. Took giga-tons of elbow frease but the result was flawless. Maybe just fill windows and sand 'em clean again?
Hi Phil. Well, you really are a sucker for punishment! 😲 It's not long since you were wrestling with the infamous 1/350 refit and now this monster. All those bits, no instructions and suspect decals. Rather you then me! Happy birthday for a few weeks (the day before my mother's and just over a week after mine!) Hopefully Lou will be able to provide moral/practical/alcoholic support during his visit. Looking forward to those updates. Good luck with this build - have fun and we'll see you in a couple of years! BTW, regarding real-estate, has Mrs. Sprueverse seen this behemoth yet? 😳
Happy birthday. Can’t wait to finish this kit. Tell you the truth is Kate might be a little bit above my skill level and I’m not really that bad 2:00
One thing I noticed is missing are the round windows on top of the secondary hull. So we'll probably need to drill those out.
I asked Helios about attaching the nacelles, and we're supposed to drill into the pylons so they can be held on with pins or screws.
Makes sense - so glad they put that a little post it note for us!😂🤪🖖
You're a braver soul that I. That is literally a LARGE project. I'm assuming that Lou will be making masks for all 1 million windows! Can't wait to see more.
Great build Phil! You are a lucky one having the master and guru at your corner! I’m also a Virgo and mine it’s the 28th! We are awesome!👍
Love your videos and builds Phil!
Greetings from Belgium!
Awesome indeed! Happy Birthday early to you! Enjoy! I hope you get to build something!🖖
@@sprueVerse thanks Phil! Also an early happy birthday… I’m currently building and accuracy a USS VOYAGER!
WOW! WOW! WOW! What an awesome project Phil. Can't wait for the next episode of this build. Exciting. Wishing you the best on this one, I can see this throwing up some challenges and look forward to seeing how you overcome these.
The reason i’ve fully opened that phaser ring is because I will be using a much higher definition phaser effect using addressable high density LED strip on its side. Placing the individual LED’s in those 5mm openings so close to the surface of the strip may very well give you a low res effect with very visible individual light sources.
Makes sense to me. I’m still analyzing my options. I think I will daisy chain the supplied addressable smd’s together and test them.
Hi I just finished watching your first video on Enterprise D 1/650 scale , I noted you wish to do the shuttle bays ? I may be able to assist on that part , there is a video walk around here on You Tube on the shuttle bays especially on the main bay. Simply just type in the relevant info & it should take you to it , now Helios sold you the main bay & some shuttles plus parts not enough to do it properly Green Strawberry sells all 3 bays in one kit yes it is at 1/1400 scale but their are parts in their that could guide you . Finally the overall decal sheets I have used these before not worth the trouble easier to use paint masks ...may be big Lou could be interested ??.
Phil see if Lou can make paint mask for the shuttle vay ,ships, and cargo.?
So excited to follow your build of this! Show us all the details!!!
Wow, that thing looks awesome. I want to get my hands on that one, for sure. Have fun with it, and I look forward to seeing this progress!
I don't know, Phil. I would be seeking a replacement saucer with a better bridge before starting.
Unfortunately that would most likely be a difficult ask. I can definitely clean it up.
Love it! UV Resin for small windows that don't have any detail behind them is a godsend. I'm using it for my FanHome Enterprise-D and it looks so much better than the individual windows in the kit!
I wonder if we could use a black resin for the darker windows, to save having to paint them later?
@davidjames1389 I think you could. Obviously you still have to mask everything exterior.
I subrcibed just to watch this being built. The lighting is the thing that caught my attention. I'm sure this model is well into the 1000's of USD (their DS-9 is around 4G) so being a a Prof. of Electronics with particular interest in MCUs. The only thing I see is that the NXP chip being used has more than likely been programmed by NXP so it's proprietary meaning if it breaks or dies its yours and no way to get at it from outside. But this is just me being an Open Source kind of guy. I bet this builds into a magnificent ship and I really hope for the best with the electronics. (PS...SMD means Surface Mount Device. What you have is addressable LED's.....just sayin) . Truly Good Luck
Welcome! Can you pop round and hook it up for me!!! 👏🙏👍😂
@@sprueVerse Well that depends, from your accent it appears we are far apart, You in a northern state Me very very far south. However, as you go along I'd be happy to consult. Let me also be clear. I wasn't trying to rain on your parade. You stated you don't know very much about the electronics other than they look well built. I agree, although, you did say that you thought most amateur devices look bad or incomprehensible. Anyone can use JCLPCB and get a beautiful end result and you don't have to be a pro. If you would like primers on addressable LED's I'd try Adafruit their stuff is usually pretty good, or any of 100s of UA-cam channels for all kinds of other info. FYI let me clarify the SMD thing. Many many many devices are SMDs it usually refers to things that are so small they have no through put (pins) to be placed on a PCB (Printed Circuit Board) that has thru hole connections, so connecting pads are on the PCB to solder them to. This is normally done with a pick n place machine and a microwave or other board heating machine to flow the solder, it can be done by hand on larger SMDs but still extremely difficult. Once again, I am awaiting the next installment. PS. I am a life long Modeller Ihave won many 1st place trophies at the IPMS local, regional and national shows I have been a national judge for the last 12 years so I'm not a diletante...just sayin.
Glad you jumped in! Cheers!
Going to be an epic build I am sure it will look Fantastic look forward to the future updates.
I am starting my 1/350 NX01 going to do my own thing with the lights wish me luck, paint should be fine as I have Lou’s masks
Hi guys, I'm new to the modelling world....well kind of....40 or so years ago I used to scratch build original spacecraft ideas, that cropped up in my head...... various sizes and shapes, incorporating a whole variety of materials and obviously kit bashing..used to use the sprues/ the skeleton that the parts came attached to (as I used to call them) as well in some builds and or used them when it came to painting each craft.....I got a lot of help and advice back in the late 70's by a BBC TV Visual / Special Effects master .....anyway....I digress 😂
I love all things Sci-Fi especially Dr. Who, Star Trek and Star Wars, so I was hoping that someone...anyone can please tell me where in the UK I can buy larger Enterprise Kits 15" and over?? - Enterprise F, E, D, the Refit and the Strange New Worlds Version....??
I've looked online and tbh I can't see the wood for the trees. It's a minefield trying to negotiate Google's algorithm 🙄
Thanks in advance guys
Great informative start to the build, will be following closely. I had planned to do my own Arduino system for the lighting/sounds effects but may wait to see what Inner Light produce. Will have to look at my top saucer now to see if I have the same issues as your saucer.
Meanwhile, I'm trimming up an old Airfix Hercules that has an instruction sheet that must have been tasty to a mouse or something.
On the plus side, I just picked the kit up for 25 bucks, so I can let go and not really GAF about how bad it really is...going to even use the worst RCAF decals I could ever have had an excuse for keeping.
Will be a long build but will look spectacular when finished. What style of aztec will you be painting, season one or later?
Not sure just yet.
@@sprueVerse not sure about using the aztec decals.
Excellent 👍🏻 🖖🏻
80 for the shuttle bay part? What's it made from, gold pressed latinum?
Phil I've come over from Wayne's channel I'm a newcomer and this looks an awesome build bar the lighting loads of soldering etc can't find this on Helios Web site is this a one of or special order Thanks you and good luck to with this build.
Welcome I understand run one is sold out. They are doing a second run keep checking back.
Full scale is 3.2 miles wide
Happy Birthday Phil hope you have a great day .
What, why, how, etc. Don't you get the decals in the basic kit? 😢 I have not got to the end of the video yet, so haven't seen how expensive it is. But with any kind of model like this we ought to get everything we need to make a good basic model. I'm fine with upgrades like lights and or sound. But come on guys decals should not have to be an optional extra 🙄
How much was the kit? Lacking lots of detail from the filming model. Maybe you can add the detail back in. All that hand rubbing was a bit too much. BTW, regular clear uv printer resin will do the same.
Is this a new kit compared to what Lou did and Canadian Starships is doing?
It’s the same kit - we all have the Helios 1/650.
Phil question?
Can you pre colour the resin then put in the applicator put a lable on it marked black windows, and another marked clear windows so you don't have to paint out the windows later?
I haven’t tried making the resin black. I don’t know if these resins can be colored.
I don't see how to order their kits? How did you obtain your copy? Enjoy your channel BTW.
Unfortunately this kit is currently sold out. You can email or message Helios from their Facebook page. It’s important to let them know you are interested as I believe they are considering a third run.
Where can I find purchase information?
Helios are online but I’m trying to find out from them status of the manufacture of more. They have sold out.
I should imagine this kit is very expensive and with the price in mind it's a bit of a piss take that they don't include the decals for free like most model kits
