The Rit dye for synthetics will give you some nice colors(boil method). In a camp stove on the tailgate of my truck use a 1 1/2 - 2 quart pot I use about 1/3 to 3/4 ounce of dye in a quart of water and boil for about 35 minutes. This did about 20 feet of the 15mm and 20 feet of the 8mm (white)blanket yarn. Rinse and let dry, you can dab with a permanent marker of the color of your choice for dappling. Brown and green are the only colors I've tried so far but dont see why purple, yellow, red, orange or black wouldnt work.

If you go to the fly shop to buy the materials for a fly...each step is a Material. The flyshop does not give you the hook, thread, and dumbell eyes and only charge you for the chenille. We get what you say, but when you write out a recipe the hook, thread, and dumbell eyes are the first 3 ingredients!! We get what you mean, but don't act like all the materials are not materials!! Just tie the fly!!😂😂😂😂😂😂

All rods can catch fish… you do get what you pay for in terms of casting accuracy ( aka more tight line) and tight line tension management (more landed fish). The larger the fish the more the quality of the rod matters… after spending thousands of dollars on the trip, it just makes sense to have the best equipment you can afford. I learned the hardest way possible… I bought cheap and paid and paid until I ended up with the top of the line

What if you don’t have a boat? It is a great knot, I just wasn’t sure if it could be used with your fly line. But this just answered my question so thank you so much. You do a pretty good job on the you tube thing but I’m even more happy that your doing this a lot more with people face to face to face

I wouldnt say that more expensive gear will make you a better angler, not will it make you catch more fish simply because fish dont give a single f about your gear. However... I many cases "you get what you pay for" applies. I bought a graphene fly rod because its light like a feather and my arm wont get tired from mending. I get more feeling and responce from a graphene rod too. Reel? Dont care, and never did. Just buy whatever If you want to spend money somewhere its the line! Get premium and call it a day.

I prefer the albright special, never had it fail me, not once. Cant say that about the blood knot. Idk why, but I had too many of these come apart out of nowhere and send $10s worth of lures flying across the lake.... damn skinny though, probably the skinniest, but only by a hair.

I have a Sage SLT 490-4 and the 389-4 I have had these from new, both these rods together cost less than the new Orvis. At the time these were the top of the range Sage rods. I have fished meny rods on rivers, even the new Sage trout ll and the Orvis helios 3 in the 4wt, but I would never part with my SLTs as i don't think there's rods out there that can match these. All these new rods are only advertisement hype, how meny youtubers out there are not, sponsored by these company's and give an honest review about these rods, not meny if any. If your after a top end rod then look at older models, as there will be hardly any difference between the new and last years rods its all about advertisement and there good at it.

I have both inexpensive rods and high end rods. All are as capable of catching as the angler using them. But that being said the higher end rods are definitely nicer and more comfortable to use. I used a cheap 8 wt rod with 5 wt line for years, just because I didn't know any better, and landed a lot of fish with it. Ill bet I didn't have 75 bucks invested in the total rig but had a lot of fun using it. I always tell people who ask for advice on getting into fly fishing not to go out and buy the high end stuff to start with. I've seen a lot of people spend a bunch of money because they wanted to get into the sport and only use it a couple of times and finding out fly fishing just isn't for them.

$650 for a “back up rod”?!!! You guys say some ridiculous stuff to over sell folks. I know you are in business and you need to make money but misleading people into thinking a $650 rod is somehow “lesser” or “sub par” is simply shameful. Kelly Galloup would agree.
