Comparing different tile and grout cleaners || special guest appearance
The tile floors in my home need a serious deep cleaning. Based on what information we know of the previous owner, we believe the floors have not had a deep cleaning in over 40 years. There are a few sections of tile that still have the original look, like under where the refrigerator was under where the washer and dryer were. The goal is to restore the rest of the tile to the same appearance. Since we have never had to clean tile to this degree before, we figured we would experiment with a bunch of different tile cleaners and DIY cleaners to see what cleaning solution was best for the job.

Time to Fix the Foundation || Fixer Upper Update Ep. 2
Переглядів 4402 місяці тому
It has been a slow start for projects on the fixer upper house. I have been forced to do minor projects of low priority around the house while I wait for the foundation repair to happen. The issue is the foundation has to be lifted since it has settled on the back of the house so much. Any projects done inside the house before the foundation is lifted, would be at risk for possible damage. Unfo...

This is the first video in what will be a series on the new house. The initial project was to remove all the carpet, carpet pads and tack strips from the house. The carpet is over 40 years old and the amount of dust and pollen trapped in it was an issue. The next major focus was yard clean up and cleaning out the gutters. Since the weather was still nice and the heat from summer and the mosquit...

    No, I don't think that's the way to do it. The rainwater comes in because the garage is low, so the garage floor needs to be raised.

    Great project, only suggestion to consider is the door jams the door hinges are a good choice. As a Fire Captain I have breached many many secure doors with a Halligan Tool. Literally in seconds. Adding steel door frames with big strong lag bolts makes busting through much harder. Not criticizing at all just food for thought. I built mine and my buddy said watch this! Redo.

    Better remove the drywall and replace it with Steel plate because drywall and plywood is too easy to cut through for walls. Actually he should have made the door look like a recessed bookcase hiding the fact that there is even a room there.

      You can replace it all just by buying a new fill valve. The new valve will eliminate the ball and essentially replace everything inside the tank.

    The sliding barn door concealing the vault door is the best advantage you have against unauthorized entry. If you don’t see the door you won’t be able to pry on the lock side door jamb to gain entry. Storage solution is an 8 and security solution is a 3 ! Well done !

    • @thediygrunt
      @thediygrunt 12 днів тому

      You are one of the very few people who has commented who has realized the main security for the closet is the fact its hidden behind anther door. I have had several people over who had no idea there was a door hidden behind the barn door. They simply saw the barn door and didn't know till I showed them.

    How tall is your garage? Mine is 9 feet high so I am afraid to buy one. Thank you in advance

    • @thediygrunt
      @thediygrunt 12 днів тому

      Mine is also 9 feet high. Originally when we bought the lift we had it in a warehouse and it had like 14 feet overhead. You can still get a lot of use out of the lift in a 9 foot garage though. My issue is my garage has a bonus room above and there is a support beam that runs through the middle of my garage and eats up two feet of height. So I have a 9 foot ceiling but only 7 feet of clearance down the middle of it. How high I can lift a car on the lift depends on what car I put on it. If you are looking to put a truck or SUV on the lift you might only get the lift up to the first notch before you can't go higher. For a shorter car like a sedan you would probably get 2-4 notches up just depending on height of car and overhead. For a sports car you would probably be 3-5 notches up. Keep in mind the rack has to go up like 3-5 inches past the lock point in order to be able to lock and unlock. The first notch is high enough to crawl under and be comfortable maybe even high enough to use a mechanics creeper.

    Smoke and fire detectors are supposed to be up high because that's where fire and smoke will go up high and carbon monoxide detectors are supposed to go low lower than a person's sleeping arrangement that's because carbon monoxide starts low because it is heavier than oxygen and if it raises above your mattress or your sleeping Arrangement you could die in your sleep from carbon monoxide poisoning so having a smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector combination device is very stupid and inappropriate especially when people want to put smoke detectors up high what's the point of having a carbon monoxide detector up high when you can die before it ever activates

    • @thediygrunt
      @thediygrunt 12 днів тому

      Not saying you are wrong, but clearly building code needs to change then since all the carbon monoxide detectors are installed high on the walls or on the ceilings or they are built into the smoke detectors. As a kid I remember living in a house and it did have a carbon monoxide detector on the wall around electrical outlet height. Since that house I have never seen that again.

  • @3er328
    @3er328 18 днів тому

    Have a couple of questions, and suggestions and don’t openly respond, first, is your door hollow or solid core, are the hinges nrp’s, none removable pins, if their not, your lock does you no good except to keep your kids out, the pins are removable via set screw that threads through the hinge barrel into the pin, when the door is in the open position if their 3 1/2” you’ll need to go to 4” which are for 1 3/4” door which I don’t recommend or turn yours into nrp’s as they don’t make them in 3 1/2, also add a middle hinge, do at least the upper and lower, next drill a 1/4” hole in the hinge plates opposite each other, on the jamb side drill through the jamb, insert and fix in place metal round stock 1” in and approximately 3/8” sticking out, when drilling into the edge of the door the depth of the pin, angle the bit towards the outer face of the door so the pin will clear the edge of the hole when closing, there’s more to do on the lock side, but what you’re looking to accomplish is slowing down the bad guys, giving the police time to respond to your house alarm, bad guy, hey look locked door must be something valuable and their going to hopefully be fixated on getting in there, their going to see the hinges and laughing what an idiot, until they find out, you need to approach this project like an onion, layers, each time they think their in they gotta fk with something else, hopefully the cops get there before they gain access, any way maybe food for thought.

    Unbelievable how a cat has replaced kids for this selfish generation, what a disgrace

    • @thediygrunt
      @thediygrunt 18 днів тому

      Unbelievable that you watch a gun closet video and are concerned about a cat showing up and no kids in sight. How dare a content creator choose to maintain a level of privacy in their life and make sure children are not shown to every stranger on the internet. At a time when human trafficking is at an all time high and child predators use social media to find their next victims. How dare a logical and intelligent adult make sure to protect his family by limiting what knowledge he chooses to share with random strangers online. You watch one video and make an assumption about someone thinking you know everything about them. Whether I have or don't have children is information I would never share on any social media platform. Also, how the heck do you know I'm being selfish "IF" I don't have children. I served years in the military, in the infantry, and was exposed to all kinds of stuff. How do you know I'm not infertile, or my wife isn't infertile (infertility rates are at an all time high), or maybe we are trying to have kids right now or plan to soon but are currently struggling to get pregnant. You literally know nothing except you saw a cat in my video, FYI I own dogs too if that makes you feel better or is that selfish as well. Like @thejoeyswoll says "you need to do better, mind your own business".

  • @bradbarley6639
    @bradbarley6639 18 днів тому

    Great video. Thanks for putting it out there!! One take away I got from this is to replace my regular door hinges with security hinges. One question... Did you run an HVAC duct into it for temperature and humidity control?

    • @thediygrunt
      @thediygrunt 16 днів тому

      No I didn't. That is why I added the air vents in the door, since the HVAC duct for the hallway is two feet away from the door on the ceiling. At this point I still haven't found a speck of rust on my guns and it doesn't feel any different in temperature or humidity from the closet to the hallway. Also it would be a difficult to add an HVAC duct inside the closet because the closet use to be where the furnace was. A previous owner had it removed and installed in the attic directly above the closet.
