Film by J. Martin Warr of an amazing migration of crabs from the open sea onto land as part of the breeding process. However, the thousands of crabs had to run a gauntlet of a road crossing and the mortality was huge even on a lightly loaded road. I hope that my use of Acker Bilk's emotive music doesn't raise too many problems.

    Do you have any footage of inside the chedworrh tunnel? I walk on the old railway line and up to the blocked tunnel entrance all the time and have always longed to see inside.

    • @johnmwarr
      @johnmwarr Місяць тому

      No, I am afraid not as the conditions in the tunnel and underfoot did not encouraga too much lingering. Such a pity, as I remember the trains on the line in the 40's and 50's which was, of course, well used during WW2, including by my father on week-end leave. It's easy to forget that these pictures are more than 50 years old and much must have changed since. Thanks for your interest.

      I’ve walked and filmed quite a bit of the Banbury and Cheltenham Direct Railway, from Andoversford to Hook Norton. Filmed at Chedworth and Fosse Cross too, and it’s amazing to compare your photos with how it has all changed in 50 odd years. I was told by a Chedworth resident that the tunnel might be passed to either the Parish Council or Local History Group, to be maintained? A very interesting video, thanks for sharing your photographs. Regards. Ron.

      @@abandonedrailwaya2470 Many thanks for your comments and I wish now that I had taken more images, but 35mm colour slides were pricey for a young family man ,and I was wearing my best suit! I may already have mentioned that I travelled the line into Cheletenham from Andoversford over Dowdswell viaduct, a journey which my Mum made daily when she was a young teacher trainee in the town. Happy Days!

    Thank you both for these truly wonderful record of Chinese steam locomotive's. The sight of the 2-10-2 Q7's at work, are so very impressive! I'm in my eighties now and have lived in both Canada and the U.S. for many years. But I still remember my train spotting days (with my Ian Allen books) from long ago! Incedently there are two Q7's owned by two separate steam enthusiast groups; which I have seen runing via UA-cam. Both groups are located in the mid west. Here in Colorado we are fortunate to have several narrow gauge railways; two that run all day trips spring to fall. Thank you again for your pictures and the music where included, really was delightful. John Lofthouse.

      Dear John< I am so grateful for your message and I hope sincerely that you can find my channel (John M Warr) and watch some of the other films that I have made which enable me, also in my 80's, to share the memories of an unrepeatable time. We still have some live steam operating to a timetable in the Isle of Man, in the Irish Sea, using locomotives which were built in Manchester and Glasgow and purchased for the line over a century ago. Always under threat from politicians, of course, but facing another season in 2024 with some optimism. I hope that my films of those engines, workshops and routes are also enjoyable. We visit the island every year for the Motorcycle racing. I too still have all my Ian Allan books, the earliest of which is 1949/50 when I 'copped' Kempenfelt on the Midland line into Bristol one Saturday morning. What a pleasurable, harmless and timeless hobby. Film making in my long retirement with my wife, together with the associated travel, including USA & Canada, has simply multiplied the pleasure. Thank you again. Sincerely, JMW

    The United Kingdom. Hi John I went to boarding school in Kurseong back in the mid 50s and started my journey in Calcutta with broad gauge steam railway then had a ferry crossing and back onto broad gauge to Siliguri where 200 students boarded the Toy Train up to our school just outside Kurseong, The journey from Cal in those days took two nights to reach Siliguri. We had our own "siding" at the school entrance where the train stopped to off load a very mischievous group of lads. I have been going back to India for my hols for about 50 years and always take the opportunity to ride the "old Toy train" when possible. When I introduce myself to the drivers and mention my old school I very often get a free ride. I am on Facebook and on the odd occasion when they discuss old school days I would very much appreciate if I may use a 30 second clip to show the Toy train in action to appreciate what a marvellous bit of British engineering still chugging along after all these years. I will of course give you credit and hopefully promote your excellent video. Thanks for bringing back fond memories with your wonderful video.

      Thank you Ming. We enjoyed Shenyang and the smart school children gave us such a welcome. They thought one of our group was Elvis Presley and wanted his autograph. Such a happy part of our visit.

      You are most welcome and I hope that the other films on my channel are of equal interest to you. I certainly enjoy making them as a retirement hobby even though anno domini has meant that my old Vincent Black Prince has recently been sold. Happy memories! ~ JMW

    Just caught up with this one Martin, good film, nice commentary.Watching trains in an English summer, what could be better. Ron

      Thank you Ron. I agree 100% and the sight of large express engines doing what they were designed to do on the 'Racing Mile' to and from Somerton and Langport is a sight to behold. Albeit very brief! Bahamas is probably in better condition now than when it was there for all to see in the 1940s and 50s, even though I missed it! Kind regards, Martin.
