Both over bridges still exist at Syreford and the one over the A436. The bridge at Aylesford is gone, as are both bridges at Bourton, although there is a filled in accommodation bridge just off the A429 at Bourton. Nice pics, by the way👍

Yes indeed, a long time ago. Taken as colour slides when I was staying at our old wartime home in Sevenhampton. The Cheltenham and Banbury line lived a charmed life but was a very useful link to the Oxford line at Kingham. My grandfather used it to travel to Stow-on-the-Wold once a year for his leather supplies at the horse fair.
The MSWJR line through Withington and Chedworth was heavily used during WW2 and I was sorry to see that go. Looking recently, at the same locations, and it is virtually impossible to discern the route. Dowdswell viaduct near Cheltenham used to scare me as a lad. ~ Thanks for your comments ~ Happy Days.

@@johnmwarrI’m just compiling a video of the section of the old line at Hook Norton. The remaining viaduct piers are amazing, but the revetment walls on the two cuttings are starting to collapse. Most of the line at Hook Norton is a nature reserve, but apart from the old Railway Hotel building, all of the station has disappeared beneath a housing estate.

@@PROPHETVberlinschule I am sure that you have seen the UA-cam channel, Parkinsons Walks. If not, then a few weeks back he covered the viaducts and surrounding pathways through the wood. Well worth a look.

Do you have any footage of inside the chedworrh tunnel? I walk on the old railway line and up to the blocked tunnel entrance all the time and have always longed to see inside.

No, I am afraid not as the conditions in the tunnel and underfoot did not encouraga too much lingering.
Such a pity, as I remember the trains on the line in the 40's and 50's which was, of course, well used during WW2, including by my father on week-end leave.
It's easy to forget that these pictures are more than 50 years old and much must have changed since.
      Thanks for your interest.

I’ve walked and filmed quite a bit of the Banbury and Cheltenham Direct Railway, from Andoversford to Hook Norton. Filmed at Chedworth and Fosse Cross too, and it’s amazing to compare your photos with how it has all changed in 50 odd years. I was told by a Chedworth resident that the tunnel might be passed to either the Parish Council or Local History Group, to be maintained? A very interesting video, thanks for sharing your photographs. Regards. Ron.

Many thanks for your comments and I wish now that I had taken more images, but 35mm colour slides were pricey for a young family man ,and I was wearing my best suit!
I may already have mentioned that I travelled the line into Cheletenham from Andoversford over Dowdswell viaduct, a journey which my Mum made daily when she was a young teacher trainee in the town.
      Happy Days!
