Dawnshard Review - Crem of the Earth | Spoilers for Oathbringer & Dawnshard
Whew finally finished RoW so I can watch this video that's been iny watch later for months
I always took Taravangian’s boon/curse to be he was gifted great intelligence and great compassion, but never both at the same time. All the days he’s “stupid” they note that he is especially weepy, versus his more intelligent days he’s recommending eugenics lol
7:35 - that deathrattle is of Shallan, spoken by her mother Chanarach.
Nightbloods command was to "destroy evil" and there just so happens to be an entity named "The Evil." Wouldn't be surprised if this turns into a Cosmere scale earing foreshadowing.
7:58 *Minor spoilers from the preview Chapters* . . . . . . . Both Adolin and Gavinor make sense as possible champions of Odium. Adolin is VERY passionate and on top of that he feels anger, bordering on HATRED, towards Dalinar for not only what he did to his mother, but for also never telling him nor his brother the truth. We see this during RoW but we are remained of this fact at the beginning of Wind and Truth with how much anger Adolin expresses against his father during the reunion in Urithiru. Gavinor is on a similar position. Yes he is super young, but he is angry towards Moash/Vyre. And since he is quite young he can easily be manipulated into submitting to Odium. While either options sounds outlandish it is something that would give TatavOdium an advantage against Dalinar, whoever Honor's champions ends up being. And Taravangian is not only way more crafty that Reize seemed to be, but also know Dalinar much better, he knows he will insist in being the champion as he feels the need to bear the brunt of responsibility so he will make sure to hit where it hurts him the most. I do believe Taravangian thinks that of he wins the contest, he will be able to unite all of roshar and aave humanity. In the end I'm expecting one of these two being the Champion, Adolin being my prime candidate for being one of the two champions.
So one thing nobody's asking is...what will a contest of champions involve? Nobody says outright that it's a fight. As a matter of fact, someone said, I believe it was Hoid, that the contest will be about "what else? The hearts and minds of men" which makes me think it could actually be about who can convince the most people to their side. As for who I think will be Odium's Champion? Adolin is actually a decent option because Odium isn't evil. Odium is passion. Odium isn't "destruction", that'd be Ruin, who is already dead, fused to Preservation back on Scadrial as a new Shard, Harmony. Odium is about all passions, especially the darker ones. Adolin has more than once thrown away his honor to follow his passions. When he killed Sadeus, several times when he wanted to fight people but had to be restrained, and many times when he, off-screen, dueled people because of slights to his father's honor despite it being hard to justify with the codes of war going on and him honor-bound to follow them. Could Odium convince Adolin that the only way to save Roshar is to force them into a war across the stars...? One more thing. Dawnshards. My theory is they are "Live" "Change" "Die" and "Think". I remember a WoB or something saying that one of the Dawnshards "doesn't fit" with the other three. Three to make the cycle of life and death, a fourth to create thinking beings capable of understanding the universe? That...would make sense as four commands that CREATED THE UNIVERSE.
I like this theory, remember how Raise-Odium talked about the true war that was coming?
A Stormlight video with 40k views? Damn
Could y'all take like an hour to figure out the pronunciations? Szeth, Jasnah, Scadrial, Sja-Anat, etc etc etc. There are audiobooks that could help you with this...
Can someone explain this "connection" between Ba Ado Mishram and the "dead" spren that this guy keeps stating as a given? Where in the books does it make a connection between Mishram's capture and spren "dying"?
The thing is, Brandon has a tendency to jebait us. If the series has been seeming to show Dalinar to be on the verge of limitless power, I'd be inclined to think he's going to lose it all and/or die instead. Bearing in mind that we have been introduced to the possibility now of a radiant bonding more than one spren now that Honor no longer restricts this from happening. It seems more likely that Dalinar will end up losing and purposefully bonding the Stormfather onto Kaladin before he becomes bound to Odium.
I can't wait for it to be over!
My theory is ba-ADO-mishram holds a dawn shard hence the ADO part (as in ADOnalsium) in her name. So they will obtain a dawn shard in the book or atleast find mishram and she will do a dawnshard thing when released. Good or bad I cannot say. But the theory stands that she holds a dawn shard so would actually be powerful enough to create a false desolation.
I’m late, just read the books over last 2 months. My personal theory Roshar will keep the Shards separated but Cultivation perhaps was the betrayer, which is why she set up Taravangian. So T will die at Dalanars hand ending the conflict on Roshar. Then Dalanar will take up Odium aiming to make it positive with Kaladin and Shallan each holding a Shard of their own. All Positive with a goal of ending the bickering uniting Adonalsium. However from an external view everyone will just see this as a standard odium esque war path and will resist again all as heroes.
The null hypothesis is that Dalinar reforges a new oath pact using the dawnshard.
New theory: (major spoilers for stormlight, the sunlit man, and other cosmere stuff) What if the showdown happens dalinar is losing and cultivation uses the opportunity to tell dalinar that the only way to win is by using the dawnshard to reforge honor and become its vessel, but dalinar doesn’t do it because of something that rinarin told him. So instead dalinar gives the dawnshard to sigsil to give to kaladin and goes on to lose the fight with some last words along the lines of “unite them kaldadin” or whatever. Sigsil then rushes to get the shard to kal and something about the experience breaks him and with szeth around causes him to consider switching to a stormbreaker. Kal ascends to honor and ends up having to kill dalinar. Bunch of stuff happens like Navani takes on dalinar a last wish to unite the lands, cultivations anger causes something to happen to lift and taravangian can’t see the future as clearly but wants to use moash against the now asended kal.
FINALLY someone that talks about things from the books and not just WoBs. I don’t have the patience for shardcast
I like where you are doing with these. Some of the better theories I've seen on UA-cam. I just don't think Dalinar is going to be the huge hero was think but still a critical character.
Might be way off with this but I think Rlain (or venli, but more likely Rlain) would be the ideal vessel for a Roshar based shard. Being someone with a vested interest in both the singers and the humans, they would be someone to unite all of Roshar and become a protectorate for the Rosharan system going into later, larger battles for the cosmere. UNITE THEM!! Possibly the grand plan for Dalinar is to unite the dawnshards over the whole cosmere arc to eventually reform Adonalsium and all live happily ever after.
I just want to say, so it's Written somewhere, that Honour + Odium = Vengeance With just that I think you can guess what my future cosmere-wide theory is 😎
bro
My theory is that Ishar is using hemalurgy god metal spikes to pin spren to human hosts. But I am only 3 books into mistborn so maybe I’m wrong
Also that quote doesn’t entail that it’s not human bodies at all. You can interpret it either way. “When transferred (into a body) the organs form most naturally (from regular organs) “
Personally, I would be happy with holding either Devotion or Dominion from Sel, and if I could, possibly combine them both into a single Shard to get all the benefits from it. I can imagine that it would be possible, through some form of Aon Dor equation, to pull the Investiture of Both Shards out of the Cognitive Realm and Reforge them into Shards as they pass back into the Physical realm. At that point I believe the two can be Picked up by two different people, or combined into a single person. I personally think that one of the main characters in Elantris, quite possibly Raoden, might be able to achieve something like this in the future of the trilogy.
I would have given Ishar's rating, based on his experiments, 10 Mengeles out if 10
Aw damn that would have been quite the scale to use
I think the easiest answer is that Taln still has his Honor Blade.
OMG THANK YOU The Gavinor champion theory is one of my most DESPIED theories I've ever heard (right there with Ned, Robb and any other dead Stark is actually alive and they all have warg abilities!) and you almost word for word said what I say about it!!! It's so nice to see I'm not the only one with a working brain...
I'm a bit late to the party, but in Oathbringer (page 867) Szeth talks with Nightblood and says: "I knew a voice like yours once, sword-nimi." The whispers? " No. A single one, in my mind, when i was young." (...) "I hope it goes better this time". Maybe Szeth was in the process of bonding a spren and talking to it, which would explain why he "knew" that the Radiants were forming again & the voidbringers would return which led to him being truthless in the eyes of the shin?
The four Dawnshards are Change, Life, Death, and Be (stasis). So Unity doesn't fit.
As for "willing champion", remember that Odium is a Shard and has ways to compel will. As horrible as the Sadeas army was, even they wouldn't knowingly side with Odium against the rest of humanity. But their hatred was considered enough of an opening. Dalinar himself nearly fell and became Odium's champion. Of the few things we've ever heard Gavinor say, he thirsts for vengeance. Odium owns and commands the object of that vengeance. "Hey Gavinor, I will give you the vengeance you seek, I will let you spill Moash's blood, all you need to do is let me into your heart, where I already am anyway." Honestly, this is possibly the most-likely part of the theory. Also, you're assuming the Honor champion will be Dalinar. If it's someone else, way easier sell to get Gavinor to be it. And the whole point of the "baby champion" thing is, it's not an offensive move by Vargodium. This isn't him saying, aha, this child will easily kill this seasoned veteran with an amazing butt. Remember, win or lose, Odium loses. When Vargodium was reviewing the contract, he mentioned that he saw some way out of the confines of the pact. Which means, whether he succeeds or not, whatever Champion he chooses, whatever his move is, it's to try and force an outcome other than win or loss. Like, Gavinor not being able (or even willing) to kill Dalinar, and Dalinar not being willing to strike down Elhokar's son.
They just gave Adolin a redemption Arc. Odium's champion is going to be Dalinar or Gavilar.
Is Honor made of styrofoam? 🤪
Am I the only one who hates Szeth? He’s almost as bad as Shallon.
The honorblades were said to be literally made of honor and the stormfather is the largest piece of honor. I feel like Dalinar is going to forge all of the honorblades into one blade and that plus the stormfather is going to be enough to either turn Dalinar into Honor or literally revive Tanavast. At the very least he may end up with all the surges
Quick observation on sound for the video, there a lot of pops and mouth noicea on the track. It also feels like the treble is way up and bass is way down. Listening on headphones, mostly on the male track
I do wonder what would happen if Odium and Ruin would meet...
I've thought of that too. That could unbalance someone badly. It's going to have an effect I think
Taravangian was gifted intelligence beyond his capability by cultivation - she messed up badly
It's Wit on Roshar!
Now that Taravangian is Odium it changes everything!
"Honor is not dead so long as he lives in the hearts of men!"
I think we have been told why he was named ruthless and why he was resurrected but being gifted nightblood is unknown.
Isn’t it a big miss to not even discuss what’s going on with Mayalaran and the return of the deadeyes? You know, a huge plot thread from Rhythm? Feels like something important is going on there, no?
Rhyshadium are actually probably really big Goats... my two point of evidence. 1. Rosharsians are very general in there classifications. They're sciency but only to a point... kinda like pre-Darwin ecologists... 2. they distinctly have rectangular pupils. Horses have circular whereas goats got rectangles. 3 bonus. How hilariously cool would it be to see a 6ft+ blonde asian guy riding a giant goat(Adolin on sureblood or galliant). Like that's a fantasy Mashup for the ages right there. Like flipping the goats for dwarves mount trope but all upside down😂😂
"I have crabs!!" Always a great thing to yell into the ethos 😂😂😂
So, Nightblood has a Divine Breath right? Maybe even connected to anti-investiture.
I think that Oroden is far more likely to be the champion odium chooses if brandon goes with the child theory
I think Ba-Ado-Mishram and the other Unmade were originally independent God-Spren, like the Stormfather. They need to be Re-made for the true resolution of the conflict.
I think new information from Yumi and the nightmare painter really supports the idea that the Spren that Ishar experimented with are being bonded in some way to previously human bodies. When Yumi and painter transfer, yumi’s innate investiture allows her to “heal” her body to match her perception and spiritual aspect. This results in painter’s body transforming to look like Yumi. Spren might have enough investiture to do something similar, but they “heal” into an impossible form because their body has no understanding of internal organs or anything like that.
Before I listen to this. Is there any "theorizing "of what's gonna come? I hate previews, I don't want to hear any good reason hypothesis or good guesses on what to come. I really like to hear about stuff. I miss that are definitely in the books. I don't have the time to go through them all multiple times so I want to know everything in the books. I just don't want any future spoilers. Even as far as "what might happen". I know some people really love the rise and try to guess what's gonna happen next. That's not me. During Game of Thrones when everybody would talk about what's coming I hated it. I tried to shut my brain off and go into it completely fresh.
Pretty sure Dalinar was supposed to be his first champion, and then Moash. Odium says something about not being able to use his first two choices since the regaining of the tower. I assumed he was talking about Moash's blindness as the second reason.
Cultivation didn't foresee Taravangian ascending to the Shard of Odium, she made it happen. She gave him intelligent days to help him plan ahead, and she gave him emotional days to draw Rayse in to make a deal and to allow Taravangian to bond Odium. Renarins future seeing abilities shrouded Szeth and Nightblood from Odiums notice, but somehow Cultivation knew when to send Taravangian his "stupidest" day... because she has been coordinating with Sja-Anat the whole time. Sja-Anat sent Renarin his spren in the first place and conspired with Taravangian to draw in Odium on the day he died. I wouldn't be surprised if Cultivation didn't conspire to bring Nightblood to Roshar in the first place. She committed from the beginning to give Taravangian what he asked for "the capacity to save humankind" and she still has a hook in him. The vacillation between intelligent and emotional was an essential part of the boon, so what, then, is the real curse?
am i hearing greenpath music from hollowknight in the background?
