Reviving A Classic Oak Treasure: Vintage Box Restoration
It turned out very nice. It’s got some nice medullary rays on it!
Thanks
What a huge difference! You did a nice job filling that wood missing at the lock area and then shaping it and touching up the color. Were curious. Do you sell your restorations online or at a market? We always wonder what the restorers do with all the furniture they fix.
Sometime I sell them, otherwise I give them away or just climb around them in the house!
What is this stain you used? Love your video!
I didn't use a stain, just some Gilboys wax oil to bring back the tone to the pine and then some Gilboys bees wax
We have liked and subscribed! That’s a pretty little table. The grain on the legs is particularly nice. What kind of wood is that?
Thanks for the sub! The wood was difficult to tell, but I suspect that it may have been elm
Thats a pretty little table and it looks much better now. You were very patient with the scraping. Well, I’d forgotten about the “bird accents” you showed us in the beginning, so as I saw your title, I was trying to figure out where the bird accents were. I thought that maybe the carved elements on the legs were somehow birds. My husband and I looked and looked, but no. Those carving just weren’t stylized birds. Then I thought that maybe the top was a bird’s eye wood, but no, that wasn’t right. So FINALLY I figured it out! You’d cleaned the “bird accents” and my hunt for birds in the carvings was futile!
Glad I kept you on your toes!!
I love that you can make a piece of furniture beautiful without seeming to change it at all - the essence of restoration, I suppose. 😊
Thank you, sometimes the old saying "Less is more" describes restoration.
Lovely restoration Tim 😊 And the mask looks great on you 😁
Thank you kindly Ismail, are you trying to say that I look better with my face covered up?! 😀
@RhooseRestorations Haha, no Tim, you are an handsome man ☺️
Lovely work! I have just restored two of these on my channel but mine don’t have veneer. Solid Tasmanian oak. Yours look great. Love your channel. 🥰
Thanks 👍. I just watched your video and subscribed. I loved the subtle honey colour that you got with the tung oil. Keep up the good work and good luck with the channel 👍
@@RhooseRestorations thanku so much for your support. thats kind of you. xo
No problem, if you ever need any advice on creating the videos or the UA-cam lark you only have to ask . I've had a lot of help along the way, the more we help each other the better!
@ omg. Thats lovely of you!! Thank you Tim. Yes… hard starting out. So much to learn! iMovie!! Omg. Remembering to press record… omg. I hope to get better. Thanku so much. Means a lot. 🥰
That oak grain was wonderful to see emerge from that blue haze. Love the restoration. I, too, would like to try one of the masks thanks Tim.
Thanks 👍 Another name to go into the hat!!
Lovely restoration I remember card catalogs from when I was a kid. This one had beautiful grain pattern. The mask looks great and I would love to have one. ❤❤
Thanks, I'll add you to the draw 😄
I have a few comments. 🤗 1st, I was sure this piece was made of metal and therefore pleasantly surprises once I started the video. 2nd, I’ve used the new mask you have and quite enjoy its comfort. Or also does not fog my glasses, which was a huge benefit compared to every mask I’ve worn since January 2020; I’m thrilled to know it is effective relative to other dust masks. 3rd, I adore the end result!!
Thank you very much 😄
Still no clue as to its original purpose, but I like it very much.
Thanks
The lovely box looks amazing now its not blue - the mask looks interesting and as someone who suffers with steamed up glasses - id like to try that one. 👍🏻
No problem, I'll add you to the list!
At First Glance, I thought it was Metal. What a Strange thing to do. It's a Handsome Piece Now. Great work as Always!
Thank you my friend 😄
A lovely thing...brought back memories from my teens of my postcard collection's home...I painted the case (!) with black something and left the solid drawer-fronts well waxed...so very tasteful...it vanished in a move, but the postcards I still have...thank you for a well made vlog...dgp/uk
Thanks, it's nice to think it evoked some good memories 😄
Beautiful restoration, it’s truly brought new life to it. Thank you for your thumbs up on our mask! 🙋 Its lightweight and comfortable make it perfect for continuous wear while providing excellent protection. Good luck with the entrance!
Thanks 😊
Love your videos have watched them all and your little helpers are adorable 😊
Thanks so much 😊
Lovely restoration of an index card cabinet. (Oh, and sure, I wouldn't mind putting my name into the draw for one of the masks, but it might be a bit too expensive mailing it to New Zealand). Going to have to use some of those veneer patching ideas on my dining table, almost brave enough! Kia kaha, from Aotearoa...
Thanks for the kind comment. I think you are my first Kiwi commenter, I'll put you in the hat !
I have fond memories of library index card cabinets. I'd dreamed of having my own library. Libraries were my quiet and peaceful place to go. You really made the cabinet look beautiful.
That is awesome!
I don't have a mask yet. I'd like one. Ty
Into the hat you go!
❤❤❤❤
Thanks
I used to love going through the card catalogs when I was young. Yes to the dust mask.
No problem
I would love to try one of those masks out.
I'll pop you into the draw 😀
Oh the beautiful wood grain shines again! So lovely and you made it happen. I would be interested to have a chance to win the dust mask. Thank you
I'll add you to the list!
Another lovely saved and finished item.Well done, yes pls for the mask draw
Thank you! Will do!
I remember those card indexes from when I went to the library in the 1950s. Great improvement!
Thank you
It’s so beautiful now! I appreciate you saving it and giving it new life.
Thanks for the kind comment
Lovely piece. Happy to the history retained on the piece. Happy Holidays 🎄🎄Give my regards to “Like & Subscribe “🎄
Will do!
I'm interested
Into the hat you go!! 😄
The wood tone and grain that you revealed when the wax came off is gorgeous. I’m glad you left the history inside of the drawers. This is a great project, and I love the end result.
Glad you enjoyed it. I left the date stamps as one of them was for 1960, the year I was born!!
Great job 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you so much 😀
Very nice. Much better than boring blue.
Not even a nice blue!!
Hi Tim 👋😊 Wow I remember those card index things very well usually filled with Brown index cards. Yeuch on the blue wax it did not look nice on it or for removing it 😔 Excellent result 😊
Thanks for watching!
100% improvement.
Thanks
Great restoration Tim and that Oak grain was beautiful. I also thought your end result pics were spot on 😀👍👍
Thanks David, your advice was much appreciated!
Good to see Chris Moose again in the background! Lovely job 😊
I can't seem to get rid of him now!!
Love it. Great job.👍🏼😀
Thank you! Cheers!
Absolutely beautiful! Glad to see you survived Darragh!
It did get a bit exciting, we found several things in the garden that we didn't recognise!
Nice work cleaning off that blue wax, although I thought it was a bold move to do your initial test on the front face of the drawer😂.
Great point but as Del Boy once said "he who dares wins"!
Tim, that mask looks comfy! I always struggle with the hard plastic. I doubt it's feasible for you to ship to me, but I appreciate knowing the maker's link because it might be available here in the states. Beautiful piece!! Wow, it looks fantastic my friend.
I'll stick you in the hat and see what happens!
I agree with OwlingDogDesign. I am also in the states, so the maker's link would be great. We love watching and always enjoy the end results. ❤Thanks

I would be interested in the masks. As a glasses wearer its hard to find a decent mask that fits snug and doesn't steam up my specs!
I'll put your name in the hat!
Great job! And a wonderfull dollshouse in the background as wel! Another project? 😅
That's the plan!
These toys are amazing! ❤
Thank you 🤗

Glad you enjoyed it!
