      The relay is because I couldn’t find a mechanical switch that could handle 200A, so I used a relay instead. Yes, most of the troubleshooting was done by checking continuity. When current does flow where it should be, you are closing in on the problem! Thanks for watching!

    I had the same piece of junk back in the mid 70s when I was a kid that I bought and it also had a bad track and stripped spark plug hole.. got the head helicoiled at napa and the plug blew out again as soon as I started it.. Anyway they installed the helicoil backwards so I fixed that myself got it running and the track started coming apart.. Ran ok but then I found a piston was cracked and rings were broke in back cylinder and nobody carried that and I was told parts weren't available because the machine was to old even though at that point it was only about 7 yrs old .. Well threw it back together and ran it as is cracked piston fitted with Briggs and Stratton lawn mower engine piston rings with missing track chunks for a few years then finally sold it to someone with an identical unit and moved on .. That junker ran damn good with Briggs lawn mower rings and was quite the talk of the farming neighborhood... Probably easy today with Internet to get any parts it needs but back then every part seemed to be obsolete.. Boy things sure have changed and this video brought back some silly memories of that machine ... Lol

    • @mattsws
      @mattsws 2 місяці тому

      Yeah these engines were known for having stripped plugs. Both the fact that they were hard to start and the plugs were lined up strangely contributed to that… Parts are definable not easy to find, but if you are persistent and willing to pay the price, they can be found! I never heard of using briggs rings in an engine like this, but it makes sense. Probably easier even to this day to find suitable Briggs rings vs original Rotax. Thanks for the comment, I really enjoyed reading it! Glad you enjoyed the video! Take care!!!

    In 1976 I raced the Artic cat Z 250 for 1 race at the USSA east opener in Jackman Maine. We had our butts handed to us by the Merc Snow twister. My dad took the 2 Z's he bought back to the dealer because they promised it to be the fastest new sleds to race in Juinor 1 and J2. My brother and I had new Mercs the following week, as did all the other teams. Man it was great to see that 1976 Cat Z one more time at the beginning of the video. I have one and use it instead of my Troy Bilt 26 hp or my Snapper zero turn. I love it. Great machine. Best mower I have ever owned and in 77 years I have owned a lot. My mower model 1948 must be older than yours because it has a different seat which sits on top of a large metal gas tank. this mower is very good on gas. I had to to place a thin lap board under the back up part of the pedal It engages and runs way too fast backwards. wear steal toed boots getting off with deck down and running. I raise the deck when I get off. If you bump the reverse getting on it will run over your left foot in a second. It destroyed a steel toed boot. Its too bad the control panel is missing. The up position of the deck is for loading on trailer, It stays up if it has enough fluid. control arm locked to the left is float for mowing. I says not to mow with deck up but it helps to raise it up and down a little in high spots. Its nice to raise it up and sit it down on large stuff. it will really chop up limbs. its great for crossing gravel and mowing around coverts. The hydraulic fill is the pipe in the floor board. I bought this mower with 6 other riding mowers to resell, but I love it too much.

    your second set of test where done right the first test where done wrong here is why Carbon pile testing should ideally be performed on a fully charged battery or a battery that has been put though a Charging cycle to get it to its maximum capable Charge to obtain accurate and reliable results. Here's why: Consistent Results: Testing a fully charged battery ensures that it is in a consistent state, allowing for more accurate and reliable measurements. When a battery is fully charged, its chemical reactions are optimized, and it is in its highest energy state, which better reflects its true performance capabilities. Maximized Capacity Assessment: Carbon pile testing assesses the cranking capacity and overall health of the battery by subjecting it to a simulated load similar to what it would experience during engine starting. A fully charged battery can deliver its maximum capacity, allowing for a more thorough evaluation of its performance under load. Prevents Misinterpretation: Testing a discharged or partially charged battery can lead to inaccurate results and misinterpretation of the battery's condition. A discharged battery may not be able to deliver its full capacity, leading to underestimation of its cranking ability and overall health. Safety Considerations: Fully charging the battery before testing also reduces the risk of damaging the battery during the testing process. Testing a partially charged battery under heavy load conditions can further deplete its charge and potentially lead to irreversible damage.

    At 15, I bought a year old 1974 400FA Ski Doo, when it was warm it was a pig but when it turned cold, man it flew and embarrassed many 440cc or bigger sleds from their competition!

      I think the 400 was the perfect balance of power and weight. Too bad pistons are so far to find now a days….

    Nice work! Sled came out looking awesome! Would you happen to know where they got that new track from?

    • @mattsws
      @mattsws 5 місяців тому

      The track was on a 1976 rv we had that was set up for oval racing. It was not brand new, but still in really good shape. Holding up well so far.

      It was a lot of work, but it managed to hold up for all 5 days in Valcourt!!!! I am really glad it made it!!! You never know with these old sleds, sometimes the dumbest thing happens and you have a breakdown….
