- The time has finally come!!! The first (and possibly only) VINTAGE RUN of the season!!! With the border still "closed", the VSCADK (Vintage Snowmobile club of the Adirondacks) will be having its first Canadian run in a week and Matt doesn't have anything tuned up and ready to ride. With only one week to get something going, he takes a chance getting the old 1979 Skidoo Everest 444 liquid running after 3 years of hibernation! This precarious Bombardier 2-stroke is always hit or miss, but when it runs, it runs like heck!!! Plagued with typical spark and ignition reliability issues, you never know if it's going to start back up on both cylinders. You end up being lucky if they are only fouled...
In this video, Matt pulls the vintage sled out into the workshop and checks fluids, ignition system (spark plugs, coils, wires, points and condensers), inspects and lubricates the track and suspension and takes this old two cylinder 440 Rotax out for a quick ride around the field. He also complains about bad quality aftermarket import parts, the difficulty in finding good NOS Bosch and Rotax ignition parts and takes you for a tour of his custom emergency toolbox (that he always ends up needing in the trails...) - Авто та транспорт
Love these old machines.
Dated, archaic, outdated technology...but stone cold reliable.
Couldn’t say it better myself! Thanks for watching, take care!
Those 444's are legendary Engines! I love that old sled nice find!
My uncle had his 444 for 30 plus years till he passed. His Everest didn't let him down on the trails and he was pretty quick!
I totally agree! They are really great all around engines. I have had good reliability with mine as well. Thanks for the comment, take care!
Although I personally lean toward Cats, I did have the opportunity to work on a 75 Olympique 300 for a friend. Hadn’t run in 15 year according to him. It came back to life and he picked it up yesterday. These old machines just won’t quit. I enjoy your videos
Its always surprising how sometimes you can just pull out something that has been sitting for so long and with just a bit of time and some basic tools get it back up and running great! Glad you enjoy my content, thanks for watching!!!
I used to lean towards ski doo and polaris. Now I got a daily driver 92 JagDlx440LT did alot of work to get her running but now I'm satisfied! My cousin lowered the gearing, and changed the clutching. She does 58 or so but for hauling logs for my firewood it's plenty. Has alot of low-end power. Previous owner complained about the bog but an overhaul fixed it.
Found your channel and i'm enjoying it! Thats a great machine! I love the old stuff, sounds like these are quite reliable sleds. Great videos!
Glad you are enjoying my channel! I love my 444 Everest. Most people I speak with tell me it wasn’t a reliable engine, but it has over 4000miles and never gave me any problems! Thanks for watching and take care!
Thanks, I'll be watching many more. We really had no snow here in NE Vt. Never even took the sleds off the trailer. We may check out some vintage shows, I have a mint 69 snojet 190 also. Keep the great videos coming!
Nice machine!
Thanks!!!
Sled sounds great Matt.
Yeah, I love the sound of this one. Especially at idle.
Great video my Friend hope the weather and the sled are great for you next weekend.
Thanks!!! The weather was cold and icy but it was a fun day! The video will be up next Sunday.
I have 2 extra Bosch condensers that are still in one of my part engines.
Hang on to them. They are the best!!!
Nice to see this vid dad had a 79 440 fan Everest loved that sled
Glad you enjoyed!!! I love that sled!
Looks fun! CAn't wait for the 10 inches of snow here in Minnesota. I'll have to take my vintage rider out for sure.
Sure was!!! Have fun with yours!!!
I really would suggest(maybe you did and didn't show it) checking chain case oil chain tension service brakes(they can stick and burn up). And cleaning the carb especially after siting good way to blow it up..
That would have been a 30 minute tune-up, mine was just ten!! Yeah, I did take a quick look at chain case oil and shot some lube on the brake mechanism, but didn't really show it in the video. The carb was drained when I stored it, so it was pretty clean. I appreciate the comment. Thanks!!
Looking good i almost bought a 444 Everest last summer
I have a couple myself, mostly all “complete parts sled” condition. They are nice overall sleds, but everyone tells me they are unreliable… Mine hasn’t been any worse than all my other 70’s machines…
@@mattsws ya pretty much anything 40+ years old isn't as dependable as it once was lol but thats part of the fun fixing them on the trails and tuning along the way its all part of the adventure
@@starfoxnerd88 Exactly!!
En anglais on dit: “You get what you pay for!!!” Lol!!!
Nice video Matt!. I don't know if the bosch parts on your Ski Doo match other makes or not, but if they do you might want to try Dr Marios Vintage Polaris parts. I know he's picked up a fair amount of stuff for the older german engines like JLO, Sachs and Hirth over the years. If those cross over to any other german motors he might have some.
Thanks for the lead, I will hit him up to see what he has. Thanks for watching!!
Hey Matt, I posted a couple options for those Bosch condensers your looking for but my comment is no longer here (one was ebay). Not sure if you got the info or not.
Hi Craig, no I did not see your first message. I just added a link to my new (and under construction..) Facebook page in my "About" section. Please message me there if you have any leads for Bosch part!! Thanks!!!
Sorry I'm not on Facebook (but I am on Dootalk if your there) and my replies keep getting removed from here for some reason. Is there another way to reach you?
First?
Yeah…. I have to admit, first start (in 3 years) is a little lame, but in my defence, this old Everest is always hit or miss on starting even after days… thanks for watching!
Fun to see the difference in technology compared to my 2008 Summit Everest 800 that requires “special oil.” ;-)
Another mint submission. Sometimes the smallest of things could of or should of been caught on a walk around and inspection like that. Nice suggestion Matt. Thanks!!!
