I have an Arctic cat panther that has a Tillotson carb, it has the intake pointing in the air like that, it really didn't like the screw on filter because it held air being on its side, not allowing enough fuel pressure for the pump. I switched the screw on filter to the regular fuel inlet and it ran great. Had to put an inline filter further down the line away from the carb. Hopefully that helps!
You are absolutely right!!! Its supposed to have a simple cap fitting, but it warped a few years back and I only had a screw on filter, so thats what I used. After the vid was shot, I determined that the screw in filter was letting in air!!! You have a keen eye! Thanks for the advice!!!
Great video my Friend I am have the same problem with my 1970 Olympique 399cc started with it running idling and every thing but first run of the year I did not know the muffler was packed, and that started problems, cleared the muffler changed gas line, change gaskets in carb. clear it three times now, runs but will not Idle no matter what i try. Like you.
I wonder if a packed muffler can cause pressure that destroys old crank seals?? That would explain why a good runner won’t idle after running on a packed muffler….. I’ll have to investigate that in another video! Take care!
@@mattsws I was thinking that also, i am going to brake that engine all the way down and replace all the old seals. It stinks, it was always my best running sled.
I have tried to use a primer on my 70 nordic and it was a big fail, I believe you can't use them on a return style feul system it would literally suck the return side dry before pulling feul from the supply side ,I then did a mikuni swap and it worked perfectly. Just my 2 cents
Mice.... I too have fallen prey to the "Tygon Hysteria" I used to do a lot with Chainsaws it was a fad I guess. After a year or 2 the Tygon was just as hard and stiff as any other line I wish I knew of a flexible when cold line. The old Pink/reddish colored line that Artic Cat used to run was pretty nice stuff. For Saws I soon learned that Echo Gray line was some Reall nice stuff available at saw shops around here. Good luck on the Alpine it sounds like the Low Speed circuit might need some adjusting yet.
Right on! Thanks for the tips on good fuel line! Even though I cleaned the carb a few years ago, I think I’ll no choice but to clean it out again next time I want to use it. I thought I could get away with it just by revving it a few minutes, but I have to do things properly! Thanks for watching!
Yeah, thats what I was thinking also… Its either that or my screw on fuel filter that is not sealing well. As for the crank seals, I wonder if a clogged muffler could create increased pressure in the crankcase and blow a seal????
@@mattsws I suspect the back pressure caused a slight leak at the crank seals. You might not have to replace them, I get away with packing gasket maker around them if its not serious. Or the exhaust valves could be carboned up and stuck.
I could be wrong, but I don’t think tank pressure is required for proper running. I am basing that on the numerous times I have ran old skidoos on windshield washer bottles half filled with gas….
@@mattsws well a carburetor does not suck gas out the bottom of a tank on its own, there is either a fuel pump or it works on positive pressure, my old Nordic would not idle or run right just like yours due to a crack in the the filler neck, you could hear the air escaping. Got a new tank and boom. Perfect.
Those 370’s are a dying breed! Good to see you’re getting yourself a collection of them!
Just you and me Super C, keeping the breed alive!!!
Old sleds can be frustrating for shur, but I'm told that adds to the fun.Our season is for the most part done here to.See ya on the next one MJ
Thanks MJ! Winter comes and goes so fast…
Oof thats rough always a bummer when things don't go according to plan eh
Yeah tell me about!

Yeah same here. My Alpine ran great until the muffler incident…

That makes a lot of sense. I never thought of that. I guess thats why Tillotsons had chokes and primers were only on Mikunis. Thanks for the info

Crank seal? If it is leaking no vacuum for fuel?

Check the fuel cap might have vapor lock
I did. It wasnt that… Thanks for the comments and thanks for watching!!!
Was the sled finally fixed? 🤔
Nope…. Haven’t had a chance to work on it since that video. I’ll make a vid of it when I do, eventually….

Check that gas cap for leaks to. That tank needs pressure to feed fuel no?
That’s an after market gas cap to. Likely culprit

Pense tu un jour faire une vidéo en français sinon continue comme sa tu est le best
J’y ai pensé! Peux etre l’hiver prochain quand je vais faire d’autre videos de skidoo. A voir!
Hey, man. What happened to your channel?
I had to take a little break… I’m working on an upcoming video that should be posted this week or next. Thanks for the interest in my content!!!
Crank seals bad causing a,massive air leak
Thats what I think. Going to take the engine appart this winter to see!
Why do you talk through your nose?
Because I’m awesome.
