How to Un-Box Hatching Eggs
Переглядів 139Рік тому
This video will explain how to unbox the chicken eggs we shipped to you. Please follow these instructions, or you may lose your eggs to breakage. Remove the top piece of 1/2 inch foam from the top of the eggs. You will then see plugs with the eggs on top of the holes. Remove them at this time. Next, reach down beside the foam with the eggs until you find the 2nd layer of 1/2-inch foam. Gently l...

    I watched your video last night and I thought it was an awesome thing to try so I did only I did a bunch of 30 as a test. And I'm glad I only did 30 I only got 21 out of the bunch because some of them when they crack the vinegar does get inside and they do taste totally horrible so I won't be doing it this way anymore. They also seem to have a more tougher rubbery texture and I don't like that. That it is as you say they are very easy to peel and I don't know how you managed to do 115 in 15 minutes because I did 30 and it still took me almost a half hour you go girl!

    That's too bad. I've got two Black Copper boys that hatched together. They do spar with each other now and then but I've never seen either come away with any battle scars. Scrappy as he is the smaller of the two always relents to his bigger dominant brother pretty quick. They divvy up the hens between themselves somehow but that's usually what their squabbles are about.

    I just want to let you know that I am so disappointed in the quail eggs that I ordered from AJ Farms. I received 60 eggs and only 16 hatched. The most disappointing part was the response I received from AJ farms when I emailed them to voice my disappointment. Very dismissive and showed little concern that they had an unsatisfied customer. I have incubated many different type eggs for many years and have never had this huge percentage of eggs not hatch. That is IF they are fertile.

    • @homesteadevolution
      @homesteadevolution Рік тому

      We always answer our customers and try to troubleshoot with them. We did reach out to you with this reply even after what you originally wrote came off as a threat of a bad review if we didn't fix your results, which were out of our control. So let's just do this. I am going to copy and paste our entire email thread for everyone to see. This is your original email: I am just writing to let you know before I post a review that from the 60 quail eggs that I purchased from you, only 19 were fertile. Although I understand, there may be cases where a small percentage will not be fertilized and hatch, but this amount is completely unacceptable. Again, I am sending you this email as a courtesy before I post a review of this order. Thanks Billy Ray Albritton Jr And our reply: As I do appreciate the feedback, we do like to troubleshoot with a customer if they have a less than normal hatch. There is no way to tell if an egg is fertile or simply damaged by the postal service during delivery after they have been in the incubator. Clears do not indicate non fertile. This is the chance you take ordering shipped eggs. The other variables involved are such as the incubator being used, temp, humidity, experience and hatching practices. I am sorry about your experience now I am going to attach a screenshot from another customer so you can compare. I assure you it is not a fertility problem. (The attached email was from a gentleman that had just hatched 48 out of 60.) And again your reply: Thank you for the fast reply. I assure you it had nothing to do with the postal delivery or incubation process as the 16 eggs that didn’t hatch did so with no problems. I have been incubating eggs for quite a few years now and that large percentage of eggs not hatching is definitely not common. Thank you for reminding me that ordering shipped eggs was “the chance that I took”. Billy Ray Albritton Jr You did tell me when requested when the eggs were set as I said you recieved them on the 27th and you replied : Yes, i set them in incubator on April 28th. the first egg hatched on day 17 and last one hatched on day 19. After which I continue to run and monitor the incubator until after day 23 in hopes that I might get more hatched. But after the 16th successful hatch, I had no more. I did not respond as you did not follow the directions that came in your box. You were supposed to wait 24-48 hrs for the shipped eggs to settle before placing them in the incubator. Also, I felt that with your obvious expertise since you had been hatching for several years. Who cares that I have been doing it for longer than a decade. Also. Just a tidbit on hatching eggs. If it takes a 3 day span for eggs to hatch, you had a temperature issue within your incubator. Have a great day

    Good video. Lots of good information for a starter like me. I bought a chicken plucker from my friend, sight unseen. He dropped it off today and while it’ll do a chicken at a time, it’s much better suited for quail and pheasant. I’ve started looked for hatcheries and pricing different quail out. Later today I’ll start clearing a space for cages and start building them. Keep up the good with y’all.

    consider a shoe box ( plastic) with 1.5 inch holes near the top on the sides so the birds can put in heads or when smaller crawl in the feeder........u will find almost zero waste in the poop trays. definite money saver here as that is what I use in the common cages of 3 ft x 3 ft on wire with poop tray under neath

    • @homesteadevolution
      @homesteadevolution Рік тому

      We use those in our outdoor grow-out hutches however in our breeder cages we do not want any feed on the interior of the cage. We have found that the birds will perch and defecate on the tops of the shoe box type feeders and we do not want the risk of food contamination. They also take up valuable real-estate within a cage as you have to deduct the area from the floor space available to each bird. We do now have the feed issue under control with our existing feeders.

    • @homesteadevolution
      @homesteadevolution Рік тому

      We use them as a food source. You can breed within a line for many generations without issues. You can also Spiral breed meaning you keep 3 different copies and when you hatch you pit the roos from one bunch Ober the hens of another. There is a great explanation of spiral breeding on Coturnix Corner UA-cam channel
