Overlanding Wyoming To Idaho
An overland trip from Medicine Bow, Wyoming to the Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho offers a rugged, scenic journey through the heart of the American West. We'll traverse sweeping prairies, cross high desert landscapes, and navigate winding mountain passes. Along the way, experience the vast solitude of Wyoming's Red Desert, the towering peaks of the Wind River Range, and the lush Snake River Valley. As we approach Idaho, the rugged beauty of the Sawtooth Mountains rises dramatically, offering breathtaking vistas, crystal-clear lakes and opportunities for hiking, fishing, and exploring some of the most untamed wilderness in the West.

    The upload we've been waiting on! Just started watching on the big screen and wanted to say I hope y'all made it through Helene okay 🙏🙏. And just from the opening I know this video is gonna be spectacular. Three days from Florida, y'all are gluttons for punishment. Takes me 4 days on the road from Alabama to Colorado but at my age I don't deal with the 14 hour days on the road like I used to. And I reserve the right to drop another comment after I've watched the vid to the end!

      Thanks for asking, we made it through Helene so much better than so many of our friends that lost everything. We only lost a few tree branches and power. Everything is back to normal for us. feel guilty saying that when so many lost so much. Yeah I push really hard to get out there. Aimee wishes we would take it a little slower and probably will next time. Thanks for watching again and hope you like it! LOL, yes comment as much as you like!

      @@GetOverItOutdoors Glad to hear y'all are okay! But wish all the old Florida I've enjoyed over the years could be spared from the personal harm and destruction by Mother Nature. Watching from Lake Martin AL this afternoon, about half way through the video, with breaks to the fridge. I totally understand the push to get out west; my best time AL to CO was 2 days + a few hours to maximize my time in the west. But not anymore; now retired I can take my time and enjoy the ride, as long as it may take.

      We’ve lived in Florida our whole lives and went through many hurricanes but the storm surge was much bigger with this one. Anywhere close to water was affected. Any it never made it closer than a 100miles off shore in our area. Yeah that’s the way I look at it. We know before leaving we only have some many days before we have to be back for work so I would rather spend those 2 extra days in the mountains than in the middle of Kansas or Nebraska lol!

    • @GetOverItOutdoors
      @GetOverItOutdoors 8 днів тому

      Yes, thank you! We've had a lot of comments on this pronunciation. We were trying to respect both ways of pronouncing it and may have failed. In the beginning of the video, I pronounce it Joe-Cass-see, which we have read is the more modern/English/local pronunciation. When my wife is narrating the Native American story of how the name came about, she tried using what we read to be as the Native American pronunciation, Joc-a-see. Is this incorrect? Do you have any insight into the Native American pronunciation that can help us further?

    • @GetOverItOutdoors

      Head toward the coast and Socastee, SC has a pronunciation more like the Native American rendition of Jocassee that we used when my wife was pronouncing it.

    My mother grew up during the Depression Era in a dirt floor log cabin on Warwoman Creek just north of Clayton GA. Warwoman Creek empties into the Chattooga River. It's beautiful and remote and wild. She told me that my grandmother would take her brothers and sisters down to the creek where they would play in the creek and woods, picking grapes and blackberries while my grandmother would fish with a cane pole and grubs, catching trout until she had a "mess" of them to cook. She would pull out an old cast iron frying pan from a sack with a piece of bacon or fat back, render the fat and then dip the fish in cornmeal and fry them and make rough cornbread with the leftover meal. This was a treat as often they had very little to eat besides what they grew and raised themselves. She said that they never felt "poor" because they always managed to get by on very little. I miss my mom and my grandmother dearly and seeing this area brings back memories and stories. Beautiful.

      What a great story! Thanks for sharing. It’s wonderful to hear stories like these from the generations that went before us. My grandparents, especially my grandfather, had incredible stories of their childhoods especially during the Great Depression. I used to listen to him for hours.

    I've been through, in and all around the Lake Jocassee/Jocasse Gorges area both on land through the access roads and trails and via lake access. It's beautiful and mystical and magical and very ancient. One of the most beautiful places on earth, in my humble opinion. The waterfalls that empty directly into the lake are especially gorgeous. Used to be very remote and isolated but has been discovered by many in the last few decades. We are so lucky and fortunate to have it here in our "backyard" in upstate SC. "Take nothing but pictures and memories and leave nothing but footprints".

      Yes you are very lucky to have it in your backyard. It is quite the magnificent place. We would love to explore its coast lines by water one day and maybe camp at the Devils Fork sites that you have to paddle to. Thanks so much for commenting.

      I can’t give the location out as I was sworn to a close friend who gave me the spot not to. So sorry it is secret spot. It is east of Kamas and west of Upper Stillwater Campground. This should help. Troy is a great guy and wealth of knowledge of Escapods. I’ve had to have his help several times.

    Thank you so much for your video. I live on the east side of NC but this October I will be heading to KY and since our state is so long east to west, I will be spending the night at Harmon den. Towing an Intech Flyer Pursue as the older I get, the less setup I want. Looking forward to staying there for 2 nights. Stay safe and God bless.

      Sorry for the late response! The campsite WAS at the end of Earls Ford Rd. but it been shut down by the forest service unfortunately. We tried to go back this past spring and they had several “No Camping” signs up. There is however a few other dispersed sites along the river on the way to this one. Just get on Earls Ford Rd. and you’ll find them

      It was at the end of Earl’s Ford Road where it met the Chattooga river. It has since been closed by the Forest Service. We were back there this past spring and there was quite a few no camping Posted.

    I’ve been to many falls in the area. Some of the best are not well known and a gps won’t take you to them. The valleys are too deep for the gps connection. You need good directions and need to pay attention as there are no signs to some of them.

    • @akbychoice
      @akbychoice Місяць тому

      @@GetOverItOutdoors yes, once you get to the trails there are signs, just nothing out on the roads to get you close. Since GPS won’t work you need written directions or a great memory.
