Yes, the CSB really shines in the Pentateuch and the historical books. It does not achieve a high literary style but it does often give fresh, thought-provoking renderings.
Hey Joe! I'm still at it, and I'm still on track! I didn't see your reading plan, so I found a website that put one together for me for a 4 month read through, and I'm in 2 Kings right now. Enjoying it just as much as you from the sound of it! :)
I grew up with the KJV and sometimes when I am reading other versions I find myself clinging to the sound of the "thees and thous". But I think it's important to read other translations. It's opened up my thinking and understanding of the Bible. Thanks for sharing the info on the CSB. That will probably be on my list of next Bibles to investigate. I'm excited for it!
I’m really enjoying the CSB! The pace has been pretty fast because I like to take notes as I go but with that being said, the fast pace makes me stay focused on the read and not getting too bogged down with taking notes. I will definitely use this 4 month plan again 😊 Thanks for doing this video. I have also enjoyed the Monday check ins and the misc map/ charts you have posted. Helps so much to feel connected.
Great video. I like to hear about others experiences with the various translations. I am reading ESV for a yearly read through. I have CSB on deck for 2024 read thru.
I'm reading the CSB with you Joe! My biggest takeaway from this is although i've read through multiple translations of the bible, it is also good to try different bible reading plans. I've used the same i year bible reading plan for 5 years now. I"m glad i tried this 4 month straight through the bible reading plan. thanks Joe.
Excellent! Thanks for letting me know. Also, I may have asked you this before but what is the 1 Year Bible Reading Plan you've been using the last 5 years?
I am enjoying the pace of this 4 month plan. Taking in large chunks at a time helps with the overall understanding and flow of the bible. The CSB has been a very smooth read, and those words or phrases that are different from the more literal translations make me stop and think about the passage, so that is a good thing.
Hey Joe! Just watched another episode of you with Tim Frisch. Have recently discovered your channel and enjoying your thoughts and comments! Have to say though, as a former SF Giant/Houston Astro, I’m pretty sure that a Dodger fan /born again Christian is an oxymoron!!! 😎🤓 At least it was back in my day! LOL!
CSB is my primary reading translation and preaching / teaching translation. I switched from NASB back in the early 2000’s I think they do a great job with their goal of optimal equivalence. I still use NASB and a few others for study.
The NIV is a very good translation, for sure. I have read it 5 times already. And from 2013-2020 I used it regularly. It comes down to personal preference.
Since you mentioned the IRS, the National Internal Revenue Code (Tax Code) of the Philippines uses the term “resident alien.” Yeah, and “dependents” too! Maybe one of the translators is a tax attorney like me. 😅
Are you trying to put the NIV in your "rear view mirror" because you have issues with it? Are you looking for a better "functional equivalent" translation than the NIV? Just curious of your thoughts.
I have nothing against the NIV. I just used it a lot and have read it 5 times already. It comes down to preference, which is subjective. The NIV, I have found, is just not my cup of tea.
I have not been doing the 4 month read through but our Church uses the CSB as it’s primary translation. I agree with your dislikes and would add that I am not a fan of “Lord of Armies” vs. Lord of Hosts.
@@joesbibles5636 I agree that it is a great translation. I like it better than NIV84 and NLT. But like you it will never be my main. I prefer LSB, ESV, and NKJV. We are so blessed to have so many great options to choose from!
Thank you, Pastor Joe.🌹⭐🌹
You're welcome!
CSB is awesome. Likely the best mixture of literal and dynamic. It is my second favorite.
I agree.

Fresh and thought-provoking - I AGREE! 💯

Thanks for sharing! I'll be going through the ESV myself in 2024.

It makes me stop and think, too. For sure. Just not used to it.

Right on. They do a good job with pursuing optimal equivalence!
Hey Bro. Joe. I’m in month 2. The plan I’m reading takes me through the Old Test., New Test., and Psalms / Proverbs. A pretty good experience so far.
Excellent! I like those plans with that kind of combo. Good stuff!
Hi are you kidding the CSB surpasses? The NAV by far is a great translation. Thank you.
Do you mean the NIV? If so then I’m with you, I do prefer the NIV. It gets a lot of unnecessary hate. But I also love CSB. 👍

What is your primary translation out of interest, sir?
As I mentioned in the video, ESV and NASB. But I’m enjoying reading the CSB alongside it.

I actually like "Lord of Armies." It's the other word choices that I have a hard time with. Overall, it's a good translation.
