Rebar bending tool 2.0 - MODIFICATIONS completed, but does it work?
Earlier in the year I made a rebar (reobar) tool to bend the reinforcement bar in the retaining wall foundations, however there were some design flaws which I'll address and fix in this video.
You can see the original build here-
ua-cam.com/video/qTNG0n7XhPw/v-deo.html
You can see the first use of the rebar bender here-
ua-cam.com/video/cU7hOk7AYFE/v-deo.html
I'm in the middle of a fairly involved retaining wall to support the mini-barn build, so it was timely to modify the tool and put it to work. The next video for the MINI BARN series will be out soon!

    • @danwaterson356
      @danwaterson356 3 дні тому

      That’s a good point. This drill press has a very sensitive shut off switch that triggers as soon as the safety guard is moved, so anything hitting it (like the vice or the work piece) would cause the drill to shut down instantly. That said, you’re right that keeping hands well away from the work would be best and guarantee safety. Australia is just so hot, don’t think I’d be very productive! Some more brickwork to come on the tiny barn project.

    • @danwaterson356
      @danwaterson356 4 дні тому

      You’re right, the post to the left has what appears to be a hole drilled into it just above the concrete footing. The hole was underground and has caused some localised rot, the other 11 posts are all good though. I guess this shows the importance of re-treating all cut or drilled surfaces to maintain the treatment level. All that said, I’ve decided to build the retaining wall from concrete. Next video going live in 30 mins.

    • @danwaterson356

      Thanks for that, it certainly got me good! The handle succumbed to repeatedly thrusting the spade into rock-hard clay about 10 years ago, with the plastic sides of the handle collapsing. Ha, digging's hard enough without trying to use the wrong tool! There are many different shapes of spade and they all have their specific uses. The long handled spade I use is great for moving material but terrible for digging. A shovel is really only any use for moving very loose piles of material. The short orange 'Atlas' spade has proven to be a real gem. I was so tired of breaking spades that I bought this one some 14 or 15 years ago specifically because it had a 10 year warranty. I'm please it's still going strong, apart from a deformed plastic handle from trying to dig through very hard earth.

    You have my sympathy - I started building a gabion retaining wall in our garden. Assembling the gabions was not as easy as it looked on various YT sites where smug men in their garages put them together in 10 seconds! Also, nobody mentioned how much internal bracing they need no matter how carefully you place the stones inside them. Anyway, I got through 2.5 tonnes of stone and then just assembled the remaining gabions, leaving a 25-year-old lad who wanted a summer job to do the rest. I was 65 at the time, I'm 67 now and I'd still be doing the job if it hadn't been for him. I thought I needed the exercise, but decided walking the dog, tending the horses, yoga and Pilates, along with a bit of gardening, would suffice. So, you have my admiration, also.

    • @danwaterson356
      @danwaterson356 Місяць тому

      Well done on those gabions, they certainly are more work than they look. I had the 'pleasure' of using some in a retaining structure about 5 years ago (40 tonnes of stone) and liked the look so much I then built a fence using gabions (12 tonnes). It's amazing just how much material is swallowed up, and you're right about the need for internal bracing; it's so easy for the cages to 'balloon'. On the exercise front it sounds like you've got it well covered with those far more enjoyable pursuits.

    Sitting here in England today having been rained off, stumbled upon your project & watched the lot. Enjoyed every minute, just wondering to myself what occupation you have?

      Welcome to the channel. We’ve had our fair share of rain the past week also! My various occupations have always been centred around design and manufacture, but for the past 18 years I’ve been the head of Design Technology at a secondary school.

    Hi Dan! Do you own all the tools you are using in your videos?? Do you often burrow and/or rent tools?

    • @danwaterson356
      @danwaterson356 Місяць тому

      Hi Euan, I’ve rented tools a lot in the past, but when you know you’re always going to be working on projects it’s more cost effective to buy whenever you can, so I do own the tools. Shared ownership Is also a good idea, like the wood chipper I part own with a friend.

    Place is epic. We really wanted to buy this property, but the house was a bit small with two kids. Looking forward to following what you do with this place! Amazing established bush and trails surrounding the property. Love the stream!

      Hello, glad you got to see the place before I started on it! You made the right decision; the cabin is tiny and an epic amount of work to do around the place (and I’m not just saying that because I was lucky/mad enough to buy it 🤣). Truly though, it’s a stunning location and I’m privileged to be able to look after and nurture it. And you’re right, the stream is just something else……
