    Enjoyable to watch and the editing flows nicely. I like the amount of detail you give which lacks in most other videos. Cantilevered, reinforced foundation, now that's belt and braces. Me thinks you're an engineer.....sub'ed and nice work

      Sure is, and I hate digging! Now I’ve shared the concept sketch I’m committed to the very complex brickwork. It’s going to be a challenge!

    You do not seem to be going below the frost line over the entire length of the foundation;... Am I missing something?

    • @danwaterson356
      @danwaterson356  6 місяців тому +7

      You are technically correct, but one of the many benefits to living in NZ is the temperate climate and in this location there’s no perceptible ground frost to consider. Thanks for the reminder though, and an important consideration particularly for those in the USA and Canada. I’ll be sure to point that out in the next video. 👍

    it would have been much more efficient to remove all the earth up to the foliage, build a retaining wall for the foliage and put down gravel for the parking. your way makes for a better video, however.

    • @danwaterson356
      @danwaterson356  5 місяців тому +3

      @@danwaterson356 😅🤣😂yeah, exactly. you have all the digging tools might as well keep going. im interested to see what will happens when it rains and everything is settled with the asphalt side.waiting for part 2.

      @@spicynomad Part 2 is out, and I'm working building the blockwork for part 3 at the moment. We've had a couple of heavy downpours, but no ground movement. The gravel parking space is well compacted road rock (base course), and the driveway is 3" concrete, so there's been no settlement or slippage, thank goodness!

      @@danwaterson356 well, thats good to hear. im glad you mentioned the whole freezing thing. im in new york city and we build up but i build all over the midwest and youtube university is helping me. there are a lot more women in the industry so thats good. ive had too many trades take advantage. its like a mechanic. they see a woman driving up and cha-ching let the cash register ring. lol

    • @danwaterson356
      @danwaterson356  5 місяців тому +2

      I hear you. It pays to educate oneself on how our built world works, even if you never lift a spade. If someone appears a little clueless they’re likely to be taken advantage of unfortunately. I’m glad the industry there is accepting of more women in the trades, that positive change is happening here in NZ as well. UA-cam is such an amazing resource for learning and sharing.
