Steve - She’s a solid wee motor. You’re getting there bit by bit.
Don’t forget, cars from that era only lasted for about 50 thousand miles and 5 to 10 years. Cars now are only really run in at 50 thousand miles and last for 10 to 20 years plus.
    It’s a different world.

Nothing wrong with a bit of fiberglass, remember replacing the floor under the driver's feet in my Renault 6 in the 80s, drove it all round Europe after that with no Flintstone effect whatsoever. Main thing is to keep the water out. Welding sounds over ambitious to me especially if you tend to melt everything !!
Keep up the good work, it's great to see and hear the Viva sounding just like I remember from the 70s.

Corner holes are indeed drainage channels, & when you get around to welding, tape thick cardboard on the screen & add a welding blanket for good measure! Mine was the same there! And my bonnet had rotted in the same areas on both sides!! Cheers. Leigh.

Brought a mini over on the ferry to Belfast years ago with a fibreglass floor in that I'd made . Just to stop the flintstones effect . Square of plywood with fibreglass over . Got The idea from a plastic bath! Thats how the bottoms are strengthened..
    Wonderful stuff is fibreglass.
The two channels are drain holes they stop water collecting and being blown through your rear vents back into the car .

I would think the gap is a drain channel from the screen aperture. If you take the screen out you can bung a rubber plug into it as the rubber hose that may be behind it has probably long gone... Same on the BL cars.

Hi Steve , another job ticked off mate.. the repairs you have done today could have been the cause of the water ingress in the fuel tank a few weeks ago..? And you said to suggest the next job … have you considered how you’re gonna paint her in the future? I watched a UA-cam video where a guy brush painted a mini in coach paint and it looked amazing! Just a thought for you 🤷🏻‍♂️ .it would save you masking up as much plus obviously no overspray and neighbours to consider haha …awesome as always mate, we always get a laugh from from you😊 looking forward to next weeks as always ❤👍🏻
