the solenoid valve is also an idle jet its purpose is to stop the engine from running on after you switch off the ignition, i would take a feed from the wire that feeds the coil assuming the coil is a 12volt if not take a feed from the ignition switch .
I thought you were on the wind up when you were plugging in it... 😂 class that has fixed it and i have learned today that some carbs do need 12v's 😂 love the sound of a carb with no airbox on 😎
😆 I'd never even heard of an idle cut off solenoid on a carb mate, everydays a school day, yeah she's sounding canny can't wait to take her for a run out on the weber 👍
It’s an electric idle control valve that sets the basic idle speed, then when the engine is shut off, the valve closes to stop the fuel and help prevent the engine ‘running on’.
Hi Steve, awesome video as always! Definitely don’t share the oil wire for your +12v feed, as the warning light has resistance and also the supply will drop to 0v when there’s no oil pressure. The oil warning lamp might also glow dimly. It’s always better to get a fresh feed from inside the car from the fusebox or even the ignition switch (via a fuse of course) … alternatively you can use the coil +12v, but only if your car doesn’t use any kind of Ballast resistor. Keep up the good work Mate !
Hello my friend, great video as always. As one of the previous messages said, rewire permanently to the fuse box and you will be cooking on gas. It will be worth it in the long run. Keep the videos coming.
im glad i said put 12v to that solonoid now the old skoda estelle's had them and when they stoped working the idle was al over the place and i noticed in your last video you had not put a 12v feed to it...just to add put a 12v ignition feed to it
Nice one mate, I'm in the process of trying to find the old school connectors for the fuse box so I can wire it in, I'll work something out in the meantime 👍
Hi Steve , awesome vid, she’s definitely sounding the best she ever has done now..! Can’t wait for the proper run out with her (reverse light has stopped working again btw 😂) Looking forward to the next one as always ❤👍🏻
Hi mate, thank you, yeah she's sounding canny, 😄 the reverse light is just unplugged from when I was working in the boot, I can't wait to go for a run out with the weber on👍
That’s the sweetest sounding Viva I’ve heard in years Steve 👌🏻and great marketing by adding that Edelbrock sticker you have TREMBLED the value of the car 😂, OMG a WISPA GOLD 😋 haven’t had one in like 15 years at least and now I can’t stop thinking about the yummy gooey ness 😉, onward and upward Steve 👍🏻.
Hi there... that Solenoid idle shut off needs to be on a switched 12v supply ideally from the fuse box, coming from the coils supply but not inline with any ballast resistor, you may need a relay so check the amperage and could burn the ignition switch... or it might just be fine without one. The Solenoid should only get a supply when the ignition is switched on, and obviously driving the car, the supply needs to be a clean 12v with no resistance or intermittent, thus Solenoids have coils in them and will burn if they are permanently fed with a supply. The engine sounds good but still idles up and down slightly indicating the solenoid is pulling intermittently. All the best mate and keep on rocking !! 🔨🛠🔧🪛🔩 😃
That engine sounds sweet. Cant beat a wisper gold and a coffee for me . Keep up the good work mate . Its mad how i actually watch more stuff on you tube than i do on tv these days I think the viva has reach the stage were you can start the rally prep , roll cage and all that 😂😜
In the 80's, I worked with a bloke who used to get a Wispa out of the vending machine and stir it into a cup of machine hot chocolate when we were on shifts at 6 in the morning! 🤮
Alright mate 👍 ya getting there, soon be time for the big ride out!! Maybe try and get some car shows done, would promote your channel with the Viva survivor 👌
Great video as always mate, I remember Bread very well..."She...is...a TART!"...thanks for making me feel old 😂 Other than bodywork, there can't be much more to do on this beauty now surely?
Thank you mate, 😆good old 80s tv, she's going on the road as soon as possible, but I'll be doing jobs like replacing ball joints , bushings and things like that until I can get another project 👍
Here am I lying in bed at half past 11 on a Sunday morning watching a guy hard at work on one of the most worthwhile activities in the universe..... viva restoration. Ok still recovering from broken leg, but I have had to keep hobbling out to put the mx5 battery on charge. It was totally flat, so put the BRAND NEW Halfords charger on. After one day, nothing. Then I notice the ‘high tech’ charger does not charge if battery has less than 4.5 volts. So Halfords charger is a real chocolate tea pot. So I put the old charger on. Couple of hours later she starts up quite happily. Moral....OLD IS BEST. Anything new Is ‘overteched’ crap.
Yeah, I look at what he's done and wonder why a week after starting am I still only half way through changing the clutch in my fiat cinquecento 🤔 I know I'm lazy but it's either been scorching hot or raining and every bolt etc has need seized, add to that I've not done one before. The Haynes manual is proper poo, really disappointed in them ☹
I am hobbling on the otherside of the world in New Zealand. I have Planta Fasiitis in R heel 👠 and they won't operate. Hi Steve. I have a 1256 Viva HC and have just bought the same weber hoping that the car will run better. Very grateful for your videos. I have been having similar problems and have done a lot of head scratching and ended up going through the same process. The carb is almost fitted, just waiting on the electronic ignition to be fitted and hopefully all systems go. Hope it goes as well as yours. Keep up the good work, look forward to your next video.. As a guess, that solenoid is a cold start unit. It may be wired to a temp sending unit that has a hot wire to one side. As the engine reaches operating temperature the switch closes allowing 12volts through to pull the high idle solenoid off letting it drop to the proper idle speed.
